Happy Happy Turkey Day!

Happy Thanksgiving!  We had a wonderful day at the seester's house and the entire family was there!  Except for the silly hubby.  Silly hubby.  We missed him.  We skyped him, though, so that was fun.  Kind of wild with 5 nieces all trying to talk at once.  I'm now staying with the seester for almost a week, and Laughter has decided she is sleeping with me tonight, so I need to make this quick so she and I can go to bed.

Turkey shoes!  Apparently adults don't wear turkey shoes.  Which is just silly.  I'd totally wear those slippers, and the tennies with the orange ribbon laces!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Anniversary and Nieces and Socks

Today (and by today I mean yesterday.  It's almost 1 and I'm just now posting, but just pretend it is still the 26th) was Mom and Dad's 48th wedding anniversary.  Go parents!  For their totally romantical date they took me, Double A, and The Bean to The Bistro for lunch.  Dad actually was romantic and had flowers and a gift waiting for Mom.  It was very sweet.  We ate too much and then we had cheesecake.  Sounds like a typical holiday, right?

In other news, DJ is home!  Her mom dropped her off around 5:30 tonight and we get to at least spend tomorrow with her.  I'm not sure how long she is staying.

The Bean, Double A, and I finally got around to watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving tonight. Strangely enough, it turned out just like it did last year...

I wore both pairs of my Thanksgiving socks, one of them twice, so I didn't do a holiday sock fail like Halloween.  I might wear the other pair again tomorrow, it just depends on what shoes I wear.  So, socks in honor of everything:

Mom and Dad socks.  Green for Mom, of course, and knitted, because she's an awesome knitter.  Black argyle for Dad, kind of just because.  I washed 30 pairs of his white socks last week, these socks would be a definite change!  Happy Anniversary, you crazy kids.

Camo for DJ.  I like the blue ones.  Duh. So happy she is home and I get to see her.

Double A is into lime green right now.  Both she and The Bean seem to just grab socks and wear whatever, so mismatched seemed like a good idea.

Mismatched for The Bean too, who is really into purple these days.  Actually, these would work for her, me, Mom, AND Double A with their color scheme.

These are my Thanksgiving socks.  I could have sworn I took pictures of them on my feet last year, but clearly not.  I was too tired to get out of bed to do it for this year's post.  But this is what they look like.

Awww...I like them!  Maybe Dad needs these socks for Christmas...

Finally, just for giggles, and because she sent me this picture on Tuesday, here are the socks I gave to SKD for Halloween.  I didn't actually get to see her on Halloween so she got them late, but she seems not to mind at all.

Tonight I am thankful for parents, nieces, friends and socks.

Not So Much Shoes

The Bean and I have a date to watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, hopefully tomorrow.  I didn't watch The Great Pumpkin this year, so I must be better about my holiday Charlie Brown viewing.  Tonight's post is an homage to this great holiday classic:

Could someone please find these and send them to me by Thursday morning?  Thanks, that would be awesome.

I never paint my fingernails, but I might consider it for this.  Or I could do my toes this way, right?  But then no one would really see them.  Bummer.

These are cookies, people.  Cookies.  They're too pretty to eat!

This necklace kind of cracks me up.  It's cute, but I don't think it's the necklace for me.

Awwww...Pedro (or the PB) needs this!

Holy charm bracelet, Batman!  See?  It has the same charm as on the necklace above, but it makes a little more sense here.  Dang this thing is busy.  Not that I can say anything as I had to start a new charm bracelet because my first one was full.  (it's not Charlie Brown, though)

I need these by Thursday too, please.  I don't have any Thanksgiving earrings.  How sad is that?

Sorry about only 1 pair of shoes tonight, but it's not like there are a ton of this specifically themed shoes out there.  But in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am grateful for these fun and silly objects to make me smile.  I'm also thankful for my nieces, but I don't seem to be doing so great at being auntie this trip home.  This was the one thing I always felt pretty good at, and now I'm screwing it up too.  Must. Do. Better.

Ooooh....A Giftie!

Today was another lovely, somewhat lazy day.  I actually got quite a bit accomplished, but didn't get out of my pjs for most of the day.  The Bean and her best friend, The VH came for awhile after school, but for most of the day it was just Mom and Dad and me.   Yesterday was busier.  Sadly the BFF and nephew had to go home.  Rude!  I did get to ride the first 45 minutes of her 4 hour drive with her, though, so that helped.  She dropped me off at the church where I did was the supply pastor while waiting for my first call.  So, counting the funeral, I've been to church 3 times in a week!  Definitely a new record for the last 6 months.  It's a small church.  I think there were about 12 or 13 of us all together, but it was nice to see people again, and chat with their new pastor for a bit.  After church a friend of mine took me to lunch and then drove me home, so we got to spend several hours together.  It's always nice to be able to catch up with her since I don't see her every time I come to Montana.  We'll call her the JVLC Friend.  And the JVLC Friend gave me a present!  She's nice that way.  She found it while she was shopping and decided that I needed it:

Isn't she sweet?  It's a shoe, it's sparkly, it's blue!  So, of course I went in search of more, and there are a ton out there, but here is a selection.

Oooh....look!  A way I can finally wear slingbacks!

I'm not much of a pink fan, but I like this.  It's a pink sapphire, and I have a soft spot for sapphires.

Simple but sparkly.

Completely sparkly!

No.  I guess it's a cute sort of idea, a necklace made of Barbie shoes, but unless a small child made it for me, I wouldn't actually wear it.

I like this one a lot because of the detail.

So there you have it.  Shoe necklaces.  Thank you to the JVLC Friend for the gift AND the inspiration!

Nephew Inspiration

So far I've been busier on vacation than I have been at home in the last few months.  I've spent 2 night at my seester's, hanging out with Flower and Laughter.  I went to church at my first call congregation and have had coffee with 2 wonderful women from that church.  On a sad note, I attended the funeral of a man also from my first call.  He was one of my favorite people there, and he and his wife were always so sweet and caring, not just to me, but to everyone.  He was also the great-uncle to some of my dear friends from high school (small world).  The Bean and I made some really disgustingly delicious chocolate peanut butter cookies the other night.  I got to hang out with Tink and Pippi on Tuesday for a couple of hours.  And now the BFF and the nephew have been here since Friday afternoon, and The Bean is also spending the weekend.  It's been a good week and has gone too fast, like all weeks in Montana seem to go.  The nephew is currently hanging out in his Spiderman pjs watching Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 before going to bed.  So in his honor, here is a selection of Spiderman shoes.

These kind of scare me, actually.  I know Spiderman's eyes look like this, but these shoes just look mean.

I like these a lot, even if they do have a giant-ass spider on them.

Awwww.  The nephew needs these.

Ooooh!

Nooooo!

Eeek...mean baby shoes.

Mean but snuggly slippers.

I like these better, of course, because of all the blue.

Sadly the BFF and the nephew have to go home tomorrow.  They never get to stay long enough, in my opinion.  I shall enjoy them while I can, so I must go now.

The Bean's Extradordinary Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookies

Another day of sleeping in (but not spending nearly as much time in my pjs).  Today I got to hang out with Pippi and Tink, which is always awesome.  They are getting so big!  Tink is in kindergarten and Pippi is in 2nd grade.  Neither had homework tonight, but both wanted me to print out math and handwriting worksheets for them.  Then I had to grade them.  They both got 100% on the ones that I graded, and no I wasn't being kind.  They really are brilliant!  The Bean had to do actual science homework tonight and she was less than thrilled.  After dinner the Bean and I decided to try a new cookie recipe.  It had peanut butter, cocoa powder, peanut butter chips, chocolate chips, and Reese's peanut butter and chocolate minis.  Oh yeah, no calories there.  They turned out pretty well, and we had fun making them.  Tonight's post is named after what we named them.  Non-sequiter:  did I mention that both The Bean and Double A are only about 2 inches shorter than me now?  It's so weird to be able to basically look them in the eye.  So, I know I've already done cookie shoes, but in honor of tonight's successful cookie experiment, I'm going to do some more.

I love how detailed these are.  I'm not sure I would have the patience or the talent to accomplish this.

With this shape you could make a bunch of different kinds of shoes.  From how these look, I think you could also do wedges and booties.  Notice I said you, not I.

For your more casual shoe cookie occasions.

These are "felt wool baby shoes with wool buttercream cookie buckles."  The booties are actually cute, but who thought they needed buttercream cookie buckles?  Weird.

Hmmmm...stocking stuffer?

These are even weirder than the first set of baby shoes.  Maybe if they were part of a Halloween costume?  Or you were celebrating Chinese New Year?  (celebrating in an American way, since fortune cookies aren't actually Chinese)  Should we have gotten a pair of these for Flower when she was a baby?

I've also done Cookie Monster shoes before, and maybe even these, but they are so cute, and must be posted.  I do love me some Sesame Street.

On a final note:  It's definitely winter in Montana.  I've only been here 3 days and my nose is already starting to dry out and bleed, and my skin is insanely dry.  Go, little humidifier, go!

Lazy Day

It was a delightfully quiet day. I slept in, then hung out with Mom until it was time to pick the Bean up from school. She and I went to the grocery store and cooked a dinner of chili and cornbread together. The brother and Double A joined us for dinner. After they left I watched a little tv, read, drank some tea, and got ready for bed. Lovely. I spent a good chunk of the day in my pjs, which means I spent a good chunk of the day in my fuzzy socks. I know I've done fuzzy socks before, and I know they aren't shoes, but it's my blog, and I'll post socks if I want to.

We'll, you can definitely tell I have a thing for stripes! I could have sworn I chose pictures of socks with other patterns...

And this just makes me smile. Pretty sure I need to make a fuzzy sock puppet!

I'm currently wearing turquoise fuzzy socks with snowflakes on them. I'm always so hot in California that I rarely get to wear fuzzy socks, so I have to enjoy it as much as possible when I'm home. I can even sleep in them! And yes, I know this whole post just proves that I'm weird, but I'm OK with that.
