I Might Need a Do Over

I came into the TV room this afternoon to find the hubby watching Say Yes to the Dress.  I've never watched the show and neither has he (or so I thought...), so I have no idea why he was watching and I was kind of too scared to ask.  For those of you who don't know the show it's one of those brides choosing wedding dresses things.  Part of me wishes I had done the whole going to a dress shop with my fam and trying a variety of big, splashy dresses on.  The introvert part of me is perfectly happy that I found my dress online, on sale, and went with it.  I think the other way would be overwhelming, too many choices.  But I do sometimes wish.  I've said before that if I didn't have to plan the whole thing with all of the details and craziness I would do multiple weddings just to play with the dress colors.  And now I've discovered that I should have messed with the shoe colors:

Love love love love.  Why didn't I think of this?  My dresses were blue, blue is a neutral, we could have totally done this.  See?  I need a do over!  I think all of these pictures are super fun.

The hubby wouldn't have gone for this, but I bet I could have talked the groomsmen into it.

So what do you think?  Should we get married again every 5 years or so so that I can play with shoes and dresses and colors?

Sigh

It's the middle of the night after a super crappy day.  Just when it seems things are starting to look up and move forward something comes up to kick us in the ass.  This was one of those days.  It was a day where I felt like a complete failure as a wife, daughter, and person.  And just to pour lemon juice on the paper cut, the puppies like the hubby better than they like me.  I don't really know how to tie this in to a shoe theme.  I also have been feeling like I'm running out of ideas on this front.  I haven't been terribly inspired as of late.  I know...whine whine whine.  Which actually gives me a thought for shoes:  Would you like some cheese with that whine?

Actually, wine tends to give me a headache, but I know there are others out there for whom this rings true.
For my winey flip flop friends.

Oh good grief.  Why?  These are disgusting.  I don't care if that's fake food, it's still gross.

Cute concept, but I'm going to have come down on the side of no when it comes to cheese shoes.

Awww...a whole family of wine holding shoes to go with the one my hubby gave me.

At first I thought this was totally weird.  Actually, I think it still is, but then I read that it's hand blown glass, which I find to be majorly impressive.

Since I can't drink wine and we don't have any cheese, I guess I should take my whines and go to bed so I can get up in 4 hours to shove the hubby out the door and off to SF.  I shall endeavor to have a better day tomorrow.

Edited:  I just found this on Facebook after posting the link:

Birthdays

I'm going to start this post by backtracking to February 6th, which was both the BSF's and The Nephew's birthday.  The Nephew turned 5, and the BSF is always the perfect age.  I didn't post that day, so I haven't yet shown you the calendar page for that date.

Part of the reason I wasn't quick to post it is that it's not good.  It's downright weird, and the BSF totally deserves better.  If they wanted to go with a red booty/ankle boot, there are a million better options out there.  Here are 3:

I personally can't really pull off the ankle boot look, but that doesn't mean I have to be mean and only show ugly ones.  The Nephew could totally pull off ankle boots if they were like the ones The Beatles wore.  And since he's an awesome Beatles fan like his mama and auntie, it would make the look even better.

Today would have been my auntie's (dad's sister) 78th birthday.  It is also the Seminary Roommate's birthday.  For the record, the BSF was also my seminary roommate, but she already has a nickname, and this way I don't have to number the seminary roommates.  I'm thinking the SR got a way better deal on the shoe calendar.  I actually really like these for spring.  The SR is not one for heels, but she always shows up with the cutest practical shoes you've ever seen.

These totally remind me of her, probably because she had a pair of adorable red flats that I totally coveted while we were living together.  Yep, I was a total commandment breaker, even (possibly especially?) in seminary.

Happy belated, current, and memorial birthdays to 4 of my favorite people ever!

Remember That You Are Dust

I went to Ash Wednesday service today.  This is the first time I've gone to church this year, and the 6th time I've gone since I left St. Someone's a year ago.  There are no doubt some deep thoughts I could go off about as to why I felt so compelled to go today of all days, the day when we remember our own mortality and our own sinfulness.  Instead, I will tell you that I went to the Episcopal church not too far from our house, that the max seating is 100 people in the sanctuary and yet they had 5 pastors listed in the bulletin, that the priest who did the service today is named Father Howdy (I tried really hard not to giggle about that one), and that 2 people told me after the service that I got the "best" cross of anyone.  I'm not going to dwell on that one, either!  Let's look at black shoes, instead (you know, because of the dust).

You can never have too many pairs of black shoes.  In fact, I would be quite happy with some new ones.  Sandals, boots, heels, ballet flats, whatever.  But, as that really isn't the point of today, I'm off to contemplate my own mortality and the promises of the resurrection.

Mardi Gras

Today is Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday/Shrove Tuesday, or as I like to call it:  a reason to eat a crap-ton of chocolate.  Wait...didn't I just do that on Saturday?  Between Valentine's Day and today, I'll be lucky if any of my pants fit this week.  But, starting tomorrow, it's no more chocolate until Easter.  No more soda, either.  I'm not completely giving up caffeine, but I'm cutting way back.  I also want to add a discipline this year of walking several times a week with the puppies.  We could all use the exercise.  So, before it hits midnight here on the west coast, I'd better show you some Mardi Gras shoes:

These are hideous and fabulous all at the same time.  So, perfect for Mardi Gras!

Oh wow.  Speaking of hideous.  But still, the hubby needs a pair.  Of the shoes, not the pants.

Do it yourself sparkly shoes!

For the toddler partier in your life.

These would actually be festive AND practical for Bourbon Street, which, frankly is disgusting and I wore thick soled boots to avoid the vomit and other bodily fluids.

These are cute.  I wouldn't be able to keep them clean, but they're cute.

More do it yourself sparkles.  The hubby just saw this picture and said, "what is this, the ugly shoe post?"

Shoot, this is actually going to post on Ash Wednesday.  Oh well, hopefully Lent won't hold it against me...

Hearts and Flowers

Happy Valentine's Day!  Or, as I like to think of it: a reason to eat a crap-ton of chocolate in the middle of February!  And speaking of chocolate, the hubby totally got me this morning.  He knows I'm not a morning person, so it's really easy to pull one over on me.  We decided no gifts this year, we were just going to enjoy the day together.  So this morning at 6:45 (ugh) he comes in, all bouncy, wakes me up and says we should go to breakfast.  Oooookay.  Then he goes into this big story about how he has acidophilus pills that really help when we go out but he can't find them, and would I please please please see if I can find them?  Did I mention I'm not a morning person?  I don't think much about it, I just get annoyed that he's not letting me sleep when he said he would.  As I'm walking down the hall I smell something, look up, and see this:

Awwww...chocolate and roses!  And just like 2 years ago, Pedro was in on the plan.  They definitely helped with my eat a crap-ton of chocolate plan!

As often happens on holidays, there are a ton of pictures, so more pictures, fewer words.

The calendar offerings for the day.

Valentine's shoes.  Pair 1 is crazy and funny.  Pair 3 isn't really a Valentine shoe, but it came up in the search and I thought they were cute.  The last pair looks like really crazy tattoos.

Chocolate Valentine shoes!

This year's Valentine's Day socks.  You can refresh your memory on last year's here.  I actually bought a 6 pack because they were cute and not expensive.  The other 3 went to SKD because she and I have a sock relationship.  She gives me socks, I giver her socks, her kids steal her socks.  It's a pattern.  I gave her the three pairs that have green on them.  And now that I think about it, she got the ones with the more fun patters (I know that's not grammatically correct).  Maybe I should hire one of her kids to steal them and give them back to me...

Happy February 14th!  Hope you have a fabulous day however you celebrate (or not)!
