Yay, Women!

Today is International Women's Day.  As a woman who knows lots of amazing women, I say hell yeah to International Women's Day.  It could be argued that doing a shoe post to celebrate isn't very enlightened or feminist, but oh well.  I'm not insisting women should wear heels, I'm not saying all women love shoes, I'm just writing a silly blog post, not intended to offend or minimize anyone or anything.  If you want something with a little more substance then check out these young women dressed up as amazing women from history.  It's pretty awesome.  If I weren't so tired I would try to write a more substantive post, but alas, I will have to leave that to others tonight, most of whom are more than likely to be better written and/or spoken than I.  

According to Wikipedia, the first occurrence of  this day was in 1909, so I decided to look at shoes from each decade since.  As always, I make no claims that the dates of these shoes are accurate.

1909 wedding shoes!

1919.  The shoes are cool, but I especially like that this picture shows a bit of the dresses, too.

1929.  Not my favorite color, necessarily, but you know I love t-straps.  I like to try and imagine fun outfits that would go with these.

 

1939.  These are really kind of weird, but really interesting.

1949.  They're a little clunky, but also really fun.  Again, I'm imagining outfits.  And hair.  Really awesome 40s hair like Victory rolls.

1959. LOVELOVELOVE.

1969.  I chose this picture more for the tights than the shoes.  The shoes are cool, but those tights are amazingly crazy.

1979.  Crazy heels aren't a new thing, y'all!

1989.  Is that measuring tape?  I mostly chose this pair because the heel shape is so very 80s.

1999.  Had to go with a good, chunky heel for the 90s.

2009.  Where's the arch support?  But I like the colors.

2016.  I love these, too.  I'm not this pretty or dainty, but I still love these.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

Today would have been my Grandpa Harry's 110th birthday.  I posted this on Facebook today, but have to share it again as I think it's too funny:

The seester's squinty smile is adorable, I look slighly guilty, and Grandpa looks either bewildered or somewhat disgusted by whatever it is I'm feeling guilty about.  I wish I'd had him in my life for longer, but I'm grateful to have known and been loved by him.  Here are some shoes inspired by my grandpa: 

Harry Potter shoes!  My grandpa, one of my favorite literary characters, and one of my favorite seminary professors all share a name. If the PB is a boy, I think I should try to convince the hubby that Harry would be an awesome name.

Grandpa didn't have a middle name, just a middle initial:  S.  These shoes are a little strange, and I'm not sure that's actually supposed to be an S or if it's just an artistic squiggle, but as I'm rather partial to that particular initial myself, I'll take it.

I have searched for McKenzie shoes a million times before and never found any.  Until tonight!  Yay Grandpa's birthday!  These aren't actually shoes, just shoe clips, but I don't care.  Hmmm...these would have been awesome with my wedding shoes.  Time to plan another imaginary wedding!

 

Zazzle comes through again.  McKenzie plaid tennies!  I'm going to have to start saving my pennies and get me some.  Then I'll have to save lots more pennies and get a pair for every member of the family.

1. My grandpa, and the memories I have of him.
2. Today was a mostly lazy day.  I was productive in some ways, but I also spent a good chunk of the day crocheting and watching Netflix.  Delightful.
3. I made my mom snort coffee today.  Which sounds mean.  Sorry, Mom!  But thanks for chatting with me and thinking I'm occasionally funny.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa

Today was my Grandpa's (mom's dad) birthday.  He was born in 1906, so if he were still living he would have been 109.  Sadly he died 25 years ago, which seems crazy.  I was 14 when he died, so he's been gone from my life a lot longer than he was in it.  I wish I could have known him as an adult.  In honor of his birth, tonight's post is all about shoes from 1906.  They're all women's shoes because frankly they're more fun.  Men's shoes from that time are pretty much just black and basic.  So, no offense to my grandpa, (I don't think he would be offended (although he totally would have acted like it and pretended to be really grumpy)) but tonight's shoes will be ones he wouldn't have worn.  Of course, he wouldn't have worn them regardless as he was an infant at the time.

As always, I don't guarantee 100% accuracy that these are all actually from 1906.  The internet says so, but you know how reliable that can be.  Having said that, they definitely are similar enough that I believe they're all from around the same time.  You won't be surprised to know that I like them as I've said that about this basic shape before.  Hmmm...I wonder if my Great Grandma had any shoes like these?  I've only seen pictures of her, but as a kid I thought she looked like my grandpa with a bun, so I can't quite picture her wearing girlie shoes.  And now I've possibly offended 2 generations, so it's time to wrap this up.

Just one more.  These actually say they are from 1908, but it's close enough, and they look like the ones above.  Also Grandpa died on February 24th, so the date was too close to pass up.
