Miscellaneous

June 1st has quite the list of holidays to be celebrated:

Hey!  I wore a dress today!  And I have parents (who are awesome!)  And I love children and definitely stand for them!  I think I said nice things to people today.  (I hope?)  I'm all the time taking my shoes off under my desk, so I went barefoot.  Thankfully I didn't have to use the Heimlich Maneuver, though.

Now here are some shoes for the day:

Because you can never have too many pairs of Oscar the Grouch shoes.  Or is that just me?

I very much want both of these, please.

Eh, neither are to my taste, really, but you know I appreciate a good theme shoe.

Aaaaand now back to work.  Maybe we'll get home before 9:00 tonight.  Wouldn't that be nice?

Larger than Life

My cousin sent me these picture from Las Vegas this past week:

Look at her cute hubby and that fabulously crazy casino carpet!  And the giant shoe, of course.  How crazy is that?

No hubby or carpet in this picture, but the shoe is pretty fun.  I went looking for other shoes and came across this article about these 2 shoes and how popular they are as a photo op.

The rest of the pictures aren't in Vegas, but are still giant.  I like this one.  Very shiny!

A giant shoe with lights.  That's fun and also weird.

Dang.  No.  Looks like it also has lights?

These 2 scare me a little bit.

Thanks to the cousin for the pictures and the inspiration!  In California news, we're having lovely rain today.  It's a little muggy, but quite delightful.

Apparently I Need Pictures

Today, in addition to being the day AFTER Easter and the day BEFORE DJ's birthday, is Children's Picture Book Day!  You may have gleaned over the years that I'm somewhat fond of books?  So of course I was excited when I saw this as a holiday, and began thinking of my favorite childhood books.  There are a ton to choose from, and I started to think about a series I used to love called The Betsy-Tacy Books.  I started looking at the books on Amazon, I looked to see if there were any themed shoes that were appropriate (nope), I discovered that there is a Betsy-Tacy society in Mankato, MN and informed Mom that we needed to take a road trip, I found shoes that weren't about the books but still tied in, and THEN I reread the name of the holiday and realized it's Children's Picture Book Day.  Oops.  Maybe if there were pictures instead of words I would have understood it better?  I really can read, honest.  Oh well, I already went down a rabbit hole of nostalgia and am going with the original post.  And, the Betsy-Tacy books do have pictures, they just aren't picture books.  Anyway, if you haven't read them, you should check them out.  I think I will be rereading them soon to see if I still love them as much as I did as a kid.  Here are my Betsy-Tacy shoes for you:

We start with the Betsy shoes.  These would be cute if they bows weren't plastic or rubber or neoprene or whatever and once they have feet inside so I can's see that crazy pattern.

I've posted these before, but don't remember when or why.  I like them.  They are bright and cheery and say spring to me.

Hmmmm...maybe?  I like all the parts (except the pattern) in theory, but less all together.  Or maybe it is just the pattern.  I'd like them a lot better in solid brown with the red accents.

Oooh...sparkly and turquoisy.

Here is where the Tacy shoes start.  Also sparkly!  And strappy.

Like the color, not terribly fond of the shape.  But it gets points for being bright and potentially cheery.

What's up with me and the hot pink shoes tonight?  I like this also.  And I think Betsy and Tacy might appreciate coordinating but not matching shoes.

Damn.  That is one tall boot.  I'd wear it if it were shorter.  I don't like over the knee boots.  Free the knees!

Despite my inability to read properly, at least I got a lovely childhood memory and some interesting shoes out of the deal.

Silver and Gold

I decorated our 2nd tree tonight when I got home.

This is the silver and gold tree that goes in the living room.  I think I like the red and green tree I did last night a little better.  And this one is actually prettier in person than it is in the picture.  At any rate it's starting to get a little more festive around here even though we're both having trouble getting into the holiday spirit this year.  This tree also gave me a theme for tonight's post:

Silver and gold shoes, of course!   You know I can't resist the sparkle.

I'd like these better with a little higher heel.  I like the flower, though.  This is another pair of shoes that needs a place in my imaginary 50s musical closet.

These actually need a slightly lower heel.  (I know you're shocked I would say such a thing.)

Another pair of shoes the hubby will never wear...

More sparkle.  I like the shape of this, it's really interesting.

I actually have this pair of shoes, or one really really similar.

Festive!

I would laugh a lot of the hubby actually wore this pair of shoes.  Then I would put on my gold, sparkly shoes and we would go do something fancy.  Or maybe we would stay home and watch Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer so we could sing the silver and gold song while wearing our silver and gold shoes in front of our silver and gold Christmas tree.  Hey, if you're going to have a theme you may as well embrace it.

Weekend

Those of you on Facebook know that I spent part of my Saturday afternoon voluntarily watching football.  It was on ESPN, which rarely happens for my Alma Mater, and I asked the hubby to flip to it just so I could check the score.  Then I got sucked in.  To football.  Which I hate.  I blame the hubby.  Although even I have to admit that it was a really good game, and UM won by scoring a touchdown with 6 seconds left.  I still can't believe I watched it, though, and couldn't believe it when I was sitting there watching it.  I did look at shoes while watching, so maybe I'm not a completely lost cause.  My college's colors are maroon and silver or gray, so here are some school spirited shoes:

We start with shoes I would actually wear to a game.  Because crazy I might be, but I'm not crazy enough to wear heels to a football game.  Especially in Montana where I'm likely to get frostbite.  I like the first one best.

It's hard to find cute shoes with both colors.  I like the accent details here with a little bit of the silver.

I love these. A lot.

I couldn't find many options where the silver was the dominant color, which is OK, because I think I like it better as the accent color.

Well this is...sparkly.  I should like it, it's a t-strap, but I don't know.  Maybe it's cuter on.

Ooooh...shiny.

Yesterday was a fun day because I got to see my auntie for the first time in 2 years.  She is house-sitting for a friend in Sonoma, so I drove there to see her and the 2 friends who came with her.  It was awesome to get to hang out, and she looks amazing.  We went thrift store shopping and I found the cutest dress, so that was fun.  I also found some really cute brown Clarks, but they were too big.  Sadness.  Oh, speaking of Clarks, I'm pretty sure I ran errands like this on Saturday:

This is what happens when I like a shoe so much I buy it in multiple colors.

In other news, today is Laughter's 5th birthday! She is such a smart, beautiful, funny little drama queen.  Don't try to get any of her bacon, though, because she will NOT share.  Here are some bacon shoes just for her (and I know these are for a baby and not a 5 year old, but some of the bacon shoes are really creepy):

Now that we're all caught up on the weekend, I'll tell you what else I've been thinking about.   I might take a break from posting.  I haven't been posting regularly anyway, first because we've been so busy with the new office, but also because I'm feeling so blah, I'm not inspired, and I don't want to keep posting depressing stuff.  Yesterday was awesome, I loved seeing my aunt, but I am in such a pit of depression right now that I wasn't fully present in the moment.  I couldn't get out of my own head and I was on the verge of tears for most of the day.  The hubby and I have had some major bumps in the road the past few weeks (hell, for our entire marriage if we're honest), I think I've ruined a relationship with someone I really care about, I feel like I'm failing at everything, and I can't keep dumping it here.  So I might post occasionally when I have the time and inclination, but I don't think it will be on a regular basis for awhile.  Not even shoes can pull me out of this pit of despair.

Beast Mode

First:  Thank you for all of the nice/funny/awesome things many of you wrote about last night's post.  It's less about turning 40 and more about being defined as "old" by a group of "young" women.  So, today I'm young, but on Sunday I'm too old to hang out with them?  Whatever.

Second: I'm slightly horrified that I not only know the title of this post is a football reference, but to what and to whom it refers.  I own dogs and I know stuff about football.  Stupid marriage.

Third (and I don't really think this is any of you, but just in case): If  you take the Book of Revelation literally, then you should stop reading as this will just piss you off.  This is my 666th post.  Oh no!  It's the number of the beast!  People get really freaked out by this number and there are 666X666 theories as to what, or who, it refers to.  Maybe it's a year.  Maybe it's Nero.  Oh wait, is it actually 616? Possibly.  Wanna know the crazy thing?  You can make that number stand for just about anything.  Here is one of the more absurd:
  1. The character of Barney is well-described as a "cute purple dinosaur".
  2. The book points out how the former Latin alphabet used the letter V in place of U.
  3. Therefore the above phrase is modified to "cvte pvrple dinosavr".
  4. Letters that do not represent Roman numerals are removed, leaving: "c v v l d i v"
  5. When the remaining numbers 100, 5, 5, 50, 500, 1, and 5 are added, the result is 666, the Number of the Beast. A summary of the Antichrist calculation was included in the Barney FAQ v1.2 (posted on Usenet's alt.tv.barney newsgroup in December 1993).
  6. This also works with "lovable purple dinosaur". This gives the letters "l v l v l d i v", which in turn gives 50, 5, 50, 5, 50, 500, 1, and 5, which also add up to 666.
There are lots of others.  If you are a numbers person you could probably make it stand for whatever you want.  For me, right now, it stands for the number of posts I've written so far.  But let's be silly and look at beast shoes.

Do you think your toes poke of out this beastie's mouth?  What the heck kind of beasts are these, anyway?

Kind of an obvious choice, I know, but hey, I did say beast shoes.

These were labeled as "sea monster shoes ."  I guess I can see that.  Baby sea beastie shoes!

Release the Kracken!  (did I just completely solidify my dork status?)

I'm not entirely sure what's going on with these shoes, but they are certainly beast-like.

Dragon beastie shoes.  Could be a Leviathan, too.

Bigfoot shoes!  Or possibly Chewbacca's cousins...

Wow.  This was labeled as a gargoyle shoe.  It's kind of cool in a crazy, wild, insane sort of way.

Please don't take the Book of Revelation literally.  It's actually a book of hope, that the crappy crap won't last forever, and the promises of the resurrection our our comfort and security.

On a final note, I went to a memorial service today and said good-bye to one of my bible study ladies.  It was sad, and a bright light is gone from the world, but those promises of the resurrection are present here, too, and I'm happy that she is no longer sick or in pain and she is at peace because of those promises.  One quick story:  She once told me that when she was a young woman she bought a new pair of shoes with every paycheck.  Oh yeah, my kind of woman!  Also, I really wish she had saved all of those shoes, because how cool would that have been?  I will miss her, her smile, and her beautiful personality.

Upside Down Cake

Somewhere on the internets today I saw a recipe for, or picture of, pineapple upside down cake.  Any mention of upside down cake makes me think of The Reluctant Dragon

I just love how silly and melodramatic he is about that poor little cake.  I suppose I should do a post about upside down cake or pineapples, but you know how I love dragons.  I've posted dragon shoes, actually more than once, I found more and I'm going to force you to look at them.  I mean, share them with you...

I love these.  So fierce and adorable.

Yep.  If a dragon could turn itself into a shoe, this is pretty much what I would envisi..on.  This would also make an effective weapon, I'm thinking.

Hilarious.  The hubby loves Godzilla, and while this isn't, I would still wear these shoes to a movie if he forced me to attend.  That back part looks like it would chafe, though.

Wow.  These are amazing.  And really scary.  I don't think I'm kick-ass enough to wear these.

Much better!  The Reluctant Dragon would approve, I think.

Good night, sleep tight, don't let the dragons bite!
