Bugs Bunny

Apparently today is National Honesty Day.  I'm all for honesty.  In fact, I'm a terrible liar, but a shoe post about Honesty Day sounded a little boring.  Or, if it's interesting, I'm not the one who can make it so today.  Instead we'll go with today's other holiday:  Bugs Bunny Day.

At first I thought Bugs was having a really bad allergy day with those red eyes, but it turns out he's wearing funky, pink sunglasses.  I like how his ears stick out the back of the shoe.

Ooookay.  The shoes weren't that great before the crazy yellow heels.  What is going on with those heels?

Ohhhhh...they're Pez dispensers.  Wait, what?  Again, what is going on with Pez heels?  Is there actual Pez in them?  Because that would be kind of cool.

Bunny slippers!

In case you want canvas tennies with no ears sticking out from the backs.

Bugs Bunny:  cool.  Rain boots:  awesome.  Green and orange: always fun.  What does Bugs Bunny riding a skate board have to do with rain boots?  I'm just curious.  Maybe there's a connection I'm missing.

How did you spend your Bugs Bunny/Honesty Day?  Mine was productive, but not in the way it should have been.  My plan was to head to Starbucks or somewhere and work on my sermon for Sunday.  Can you believe I'm preaching for the first time in over a year?!  True story!  (I wouldn't lie to you about such a thing on Bugs Bunny Day)  I never made it, though, I just puttered around the house getting a bunch of other stuff done.  Tomorrow is the day for sermon writing, apparently.  I mean, I wouldn't want to be too ahead of the game; what would my procrastination gene think?

Denim

Did you wear jeans today?  Because it's Denim Day!  I didn't know this until a few minutes ago, so I did not wear jeans.  Plus, it was too hot to wear jeans, so I will just look at denim shoes:

These are awful.  Why are these?

And yet, that top pair is a million times better than this pair.  DIY is not always a good idea.

Much better.

Are these actually denim?  I think they're just blue, but they have denim-y elements, and they're cute.

Super cute!  Obviously not with jeans, but with a fun skirt, definitely.

s

I actually kind of like these, although I have no idea what I would wear them with.

This one is my favorite!  Yes, please.

So I failed on wearing denim on Denim Day, but it was still a pretty darn good day.  The puppies and I met a friend this morning to go for a walk, which meant all kinds of new places to sniff. Then this afternoon we met SKD to celebrate her birthday (which was a week ago), and got to hang out at a lovely lake.  They love their Auntie SKD, and we had lots of fun exploring.  The dogs had lots of fun attempting to eat goose poop while SKD and I had less fun trying to stop them.  But look how sweet they are:

Squirrel!  You should have seen how high Chalupa managed to actually run up that tree.  But the squirrel could climb higher and thus was safe from the wee beasts.

Ohhhh...Boys

I posted on Facebook tonight that my dad is in the hospital overnight for observation.  Apparently his heart rate was over 140 this afternoon and he was dizzy.  It happened a couple of weeks ago also, and the Dr. wasn't concerned but told him to come in if it happened again.  The man drove himself to the hospital, but at least he went (eye roll).  He's probably horrified that I posted and am writing about it now because he's "fine," but 1. he's my daddy and I love him and worry about him, and 2. it's a tiny town so probably everyone already knows where he is and why anyway.  The hubby isn't feeling well today, either.  He's got a cold so he's sneezing and coughing and generally miserable.  He just took some Nyquil and basically passed out, so I'm hoping he gets some really good sleep tonight.  And poor Chalupa has allergies, I think.  He sneezes all the time (which is actually kind of adorable, but as an allergy sufferer myself, I still feel bad for him).  Oh, and Bulbasaur is molting so he looks terrible.  My boys are having a rough day.  Hopefully everyone will feel better tomorrow.

So at my birthday party I was excited to see a couple from St. Someone's that I hadn't seen in over a year.  It was great to see them and catch up a little.  They hadn't met the dogs yet, and she asked me what their names were.  I told her Chalupa Batman and Tallulah Cooper.  Then she wanted to know what we call them for short and was less than impressed when I said Chalupa and Tallulah.  Apparently that's just too much.  She said she would call them Choo Choo and Lulu.  Which actually makes me giggle.  The hubby said no.  The hubby has no sense of adventure.  It did inspire me to go look for some Lulu and Choo Choo shoes.

These are all Lulu Townsend shoes.  They all look like bridesmaid shoes to me, but I'm not holding that against them.   The blue is my favorite, of course, but I actually like them all, with the exception of the wedges.  If they had a different heel I would really like them, but I'm not a fan of that type of wedge.  I like all of the dainty flower details.

I thought about doing Jimmy Choos for Choo Choo, but decided choo choo train shoes were more fun.  Also, I think these are more representative of Chalupa.  They're fun, a little quirky, and all boy.  Tallulah's shoes work too:  dainty and sweet.  At least I got to find some cute shoes from the nicknames we won't be using.

I'm taking my headache to bed  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for my boys.

Poker, Anyone?

The hubby and I went to some friends' last night for a BBQ.  Their daughter, her boyfriend, their 2 daughters were visiting from Texas, and it was nice to go hang out and catch up.  Doesn't hurt that the babies are 2 and 6 months and stinking adorable.  There was also an adorable 8 month old, so I got a lovely baby fix.  The hubby got his people fix and his poker fix.  This particular group of friends almost always end up playing poker when they get together.  I don't play poker.  I get the basics, but not all of the details.  Plus, I'm a terrible liar, so bluffing wouldn't be my strong suit.  But the hubby enjoys it and I got to play with babies, so it worked out just fine.  Maybe I need some shoes to wear while he plays?

I like the 2nd to last pair the best.  None of them are particular favorites, but you know how I love a good themed shoe.  It would crack me up if I had playing card shoes to wear while they hubby plays.  Or, I could wear them while I play solitaire on the computer.  Or, I could that last tennis shoe for the hubby and he can play the poker and wear the shoes while I stay home and read a book.

Eeyore

It's another birthday post!  But not mine this time.  Did you know that today is Eeyore's birthday?  Neither did I, so now we've all learned something.  I love Eeyore.  I definitely resonate with Eeyore.  And, Eeyore is the BFF's favorite A.A. Milne character, so I love him even more for that association.  In honor of his big day, here are some Eeyore shoes:

I would wear any of these.  The heels are a little weird, but I still like them.  I think the BFF and I need matching Eeyore shoes so we can celebrate April 25th together next year.  Oooh, we could get the Nephew Eeyore shoes, too!  And then we can all go to Disneyland.  Clearly we need to start saving our pennies.

Rings and Shoes

I've always loved rings.  Even as a kid I wore rings, and loved trying on my mom's wedding rings, and playing with the rings in my grandma's jewelry box.  I still love trying on rings of all kinds of shapes and sizes, although since getting married I mostly only wear my wedding rings (gaining weight has something to do with that, too).  Anyway, one of my birthday presents combined 2 of the things I love:  rings and shoes:

Sunshine's grandma gave me this cool shoe-shaped ring holder at my birthday party last weekend (and yes, I have managed to stretch this birthday thing out for almost 2 weeks), isn't it pretty?  The top ring was a gift from St. Someone's preschool director.  It's paste sapphire and diamonds, so goes with my wedding set (I love costume jewelry...I live in fear of losing my wedding rings).  Next down is a ring that belonged to my mama (don't worry, she gave it to me, I didn't swipe it from her jewelry box).  And second from the bottom is my grandmother's class ring that she gave me before she died and which is very dear to my heart.   The others have stories as well, but those 3 were gifts.  I have other rings still in my jewelry box.  I really need to start wearing them more.

So I went in search of more shoe shaped ring holders, and found plenty.  I love these with the polka dots and color coordinated bows and insides.

I'm not much of an animal print fan, but some of you are, so these are for you.

Oooooh....plaid!  And rickrack.  There's not enough rickrack in my life.

Very princessy.  In fact I love how all of these look like stairs.  I can just picture Cinderella running down the stairs and losing her shoe.  Is that too weird of a leap in thought process?

These last two are exactly the same only different.  Does your family say that?  They're very sweet and girly.

That's my story for the night.  Oh, and my "news" for the day is that I went to the gym for the first time in approximately 2,743 years.  It was time.  It sucked.  It wasn't that bad.  I hated it.  I'm glad I went.  I have a love/hate relationship with the gym.  Thank goodness for audiobooks that make the treadmill more bearable.

Oh, one final thing:  Sunshine's grandma is way more than just Sunshine's grandma (it's just an easy way to identify her).  She's my friend and a wonderful supporter from St. Someone's, and pretty darn fantastic in just about every way.  The fact that's she's Sunshine's grandma is just a delightful bonus.

Doodlebug

22 years ago today a very special baby boy came into the world and changed my life.  Which makes it sound really dramatic, like I gave birth at 18.  Not so much.  The baby who was born was actually the son and baby brother of a family in my home church.  I was about to graduate from high school and wasn't sure I was ready to go right to college.  The woman who had been watching the baby's big sister decided not to watch both of them and the family asked if I wanted a job after graduation.  I said yes, meant to take a year, but then spent 2 1/2 years loving on those babies before finally forcing myself off to school.  How could I resist these faces?

I miss those babies.  They both grew up into incredible adults of whom I'm super proud, but I do miss these little squishies.  I've spoken about these guys before (KGHK and KAH) and went with initials for their nicknames because I wasn't sure either would appreciate me using their baby nicknames (although I don't think either of them read this, so it would be OK).  For tonight's birthday post, though, KAH gets to go back to being Doodlebug.  Because Doodlebug shoes actually exist:

See?  Love the little red ones although for big sister rather than baby brother.  Doodlebug could totally have pulled off the brown boots with his overalls.

These are also cute, but again, not for Doodlebug.  The rest of the shoes are baby boy shoes, not Doodlebug shoes.  Because I couldn't find any more.  And because I wanted baby shoes.

How cute are these?  PB would be quite dapper in these.

Oh.  My.  Goodness.  Someone please tell the hubby to knock me up with a baby boy so the PB could have these.  Loooooooove.

It's a caterpillar, but I'm calling it a Doodlebug.  Deal with it.

Love these, too.  So cute.  This post is making my ovaries yell at me about baby boys.

More dapper shoes!  I've always loved babies in overalls, apparently I also love baby boys in dapper, handsome little shoes and hats.

I can't believe it's been 22 years since I graduated from high school and Doodlebug made his appearance in the world.  Happy Birthday to the baby boy I remember, and the handsome, amazing man he has become.
