Good Friday

I spent my Good Friday cleaning at the old house and picking up all of the random stuff that gets left during a move.  I had planned to go to church, but the day went later than I anticipated (what else is new with this move?) so unfortunately I didn't get to go.  I'm one of those people who needs Good Friday before Easter and the promises of the resurrection.

Shoes and Good Friday don't seem to go together, so I'm going to go with another day from the holidays calendar:  Waffle Day!  Is that sacrilegious?  I hope not. It probably is.  I'm probably going to hell.  Oh wait, the promises of the resurrection, which come from Good Friday, are all about grace.  Whew.  Maybe I won't go to waffle hell after all.

Overall waffle shoes are kind of hilarious, but I have no desire to own any.  The last picture is my favorite, and the crazy thing is those are Melissa shoes for toddlers.  I never though I'd find any Melissa shoe cute.

Dang.  Now I want waffles.  With peanut butter and maple syrup.  Maybe in the shapes of shoes!

Memory Lane: 2013. 2015 (I finally have a 2015 post again, but now don't have a 2014 post).

3 Things:

  1. Good Friday.  It's not a fun or pretty day, but the promises of the resurrection come from it, and that makes it good.
  2. There might(?) be a light at the end of the moving tunnel?
  3. I'm going to miss the neighbor kids at the old house.  The 2 younger girls have been coming over to chat while I've been packing and moving, and they never fail to put a smile on my face.  They are the same ages as Laughter and Flower, which makes me miss those babies even more.

Tweed

Today is Good Friday, and while it is an extremely important day in the lives of Christians (you can't have Easter unless you have Good Friday), it's just not a theme I want to seek out in shoes.  So I went to my reliable holidays page, and today is:
  •  Find a Rainbow Day
  • Good Friday
  • Hospital Admitting Clerks Day
  • National Chocolate Mousse Day
  • National Don't Go To Work Unless It's Fun Day
  • National Tweed Day
  • National Walk To Work Day
  • Pony Express Day
  • Weed Out Hate:  Sow The Seeds of Greatness Day
  • World Party Day
Hmmm...Good Friday is a different date every year, so it doesn't always fall on National Don't Go To Work Unless It's Fun Day or World Party Day, neither of which seem terribly appropriate (although I encourage you to celebrate both next year).  National Chocolate Mousse Day is awesome, wish I'd checked sooner.  And Pony Express Day?  Fun!  But tonight's post is celebrating National Tweed Day.  I have to admit I didn't really know much about tweed.  I mean, I can recognize it when I see it, but what's it made of?  So I turned to Wikipedia for some help:

Tweed is a rough, unfinished woollen fabric, of a soft, open, flexible texture, resembling cheviot or homespun, but more closely woven. It is made in either plain or twill weave and may have a check or herringbone pattern. Subdued, interesting colour effects (heather mixtures) are obtained by twisting together differently coloured woollen strands into a two- or three-ply yarn.

There.  Who said my blogs weren't educational?  No, really.  Who said that?  So rude.

On to shoes!

I love tweed!  I would totally wear these.

This, too.  I could use a pair of cute flats like this.

When Flower was little she thought that saying please meant she could have whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted, and it would get more desperate every time she said it.  I am channeling Flower now as I say, "PLEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSEEE!"  Blue.  Adorable.  Want.

Ooooh...fuchsia and sassy.  PS...why is fuchsia such a funky word to spell?

A little more dignified, but still cute.

How many times can I say cute?  Because these are, too.

I saw this shoe in a few colors, and I really like it except that the heel is funky.  Which is easily explained when you learn that this is another offering from Irregular Choice.  I'd say this is actually one of their more normal shoes.  Who knew?

These are, well they're orange plaid.  Cute shape, and they might be nice for Fall, but maybe they'd be better if they were a little less orange?  I want to like them, I really do!

So, I owe Tweed an apology.  If I ever thought of it, it was mostly in relation to stodgy old British people (sorry, Brits, I love you!) or stodgy old professors (sorry, academics, I love you, too!), but my mind has been opened and changed by some darn cute shoes.  I now love tweed.  At least on my feet.  I don't think I'm ready for a whole outfit unless I get invited to go hunting with some stodgy old British people or something...

Good Friday

I always think the weather should reflect Holy Week events.  Good Friday should be gray and cloudy and dreary, while Easter should be bright and sunny and cheery.  Looks like we're going to have the opposite this year.  The sun is shining today, and it's supposed to rain on Sunday.  Clearly, the weather did not get my memo...

So, onto shoes.  Today's selection:

They might be a little cheerful for a day like Good Friday.  Today I'm wearing all black, though, so I feel like I can get away with a little color on my feet.  I like that I can wear these shoes with almost anything because of their varied colors.  I also love the fact that I got them on sale for $8!  It's the simple things that make me happy.

Today is also my oldest niece's 16th birthday.  How the heck did she get to be 16?  She'll be getting her driver's license soon, she's a sophomore in high school, and it's all very strange.  She's growing up to be a beautiful young woman.  Here is how the calendar wished her a Happy Birthday today:

Eh.  Not my favorite.  Not horrible though.  I haven't heard the Birthday girl's opinion on them, yet.  They are from 1992, so I would have been 16 on March 29th of that year, since my birthday's not until April.  I like the symmetry!
