Stars

Good grief, how is it August 1st already?  August 1st has quite a few holidays attached to it, including a couple that I talked about last year, but did you also know that today is Woman Astronomers Day? "Maria Mitchell was the first female professional astronomer, first woman to become a professor of astronomy, and the first woman to be elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts in 1918."  So in honor of Maria Mitchell and all women astronomer's (or women who shoot for the stars in one way or another), here are some space shoes:

I love all three of these and would wear them to space-related events.  Because I go to so many of them, you know.

I love neither of these.  Actually the designs are pretty but the shapes are terrible and I'm not going to wear them to any of my fabulous space-themed events.

These are a little bit crazy.  I will wear them to my dressier space-themed events.

So....who's going to invite me to a space-themed event?

Stars

I'm exhausted.  I'm tempted just to skip posting and go to bed, but I haven't posted for 2 days, and I had wanted to post every day during Lent.  Tuesday and Wednesday were roller coaster days, along with being extremely long days at the office, so I've been tired all week, and those days I didn't have the emotional reserves to form coherent thoughts.  Thankfully for tonight, I have the Pinterest Friend to fall back on.  I mentioned before that I've been doing the Synod's Lent Photo-a-Day on Facebook, and Tuesday's theme was stars.  Not only did the PF provide me with a great picture of Orion (my favorite constellation) to post, but she also went on a search and found me a bunch of fun star shoes.  Sadly I'm 2 days late in posting them, but at least I got to it at some point.  So here they are, with little to no commentary from the loopy, exhausted woman at the keyboard.

I had glow in the dark stars for my ceiling during college.  Now I want these shoes.

Didn't the PF do a good job?  Yay for stars!

Memory Lane:  2013. 2014.

3 Things (times 3 days):
  1. We signed papers for the house on Tuesday.  We are sooooo close to this house actually being sold.
  2. My hubby has mad negotiating/charm skills that managed to correct a problem that could have absolutely ruined this entire week.
  3. Yesterday was the anniversary of my grandfather's death.  I miss him dearly, but so glad I had him as long as I did, and for the memories I have of him.
  4. Today is George Harrison's (of the Beatles) birthday. I'm very happy he made the world better with music.
  5. The BFF's mom had a CT scan on Monday (same day SKD's mom had surgery...I called my mom just to make sure she was OK) and everything came back fine, which is good news.
  6. The PF finds me shoes so I don't have to find them myself when I'm exhausted.
  7. The hubby is lucky (I am not) and won a $50 visa debit card at a marketing event the other day.
  8. I ate chocolate for breakfast this morning.
  9. The property manager at the office is awesome (the hubby says we are long-lost sisters) and she plies me with coffee when I am desperate.

I Voted

My Facebook newsfeed today was full of people posting that they had voted.  Did you?  I did not.  At least not today.  The hubby and are permanent absentee voters, which means we get the ballot mailed to us and we fill them out and mail them back.  I like it because I can look up information as I'm voting.  I also like it because I can vote in my pj's!

Whether you are Democrat or Republican, there are shoes for you!  If the animals were on opposing shoes, you could get one of each and be bi-partisan in your footwear.

Pretty much speaks for itself, eh?

Holy crap, no.  Patriotism just ran away screaming.

Another good choice for voting shoes.  Or the 4th of July.  Or Thursday.  You know, whatever.

I should like these.  They are simple and stripey.  But they're just slightly off for me.  Still, they are certainly someone's taste, and that someone should wear them to vote.
Sparkly!  For the woman who wants her calves, ankles and, butt to look good while she votes.  My extremities would have to find another asset as these are stupid slingbacks.

For the patriotic baby!  PB will wear these while we vote in our pj's.

What shoes did you wear while voting?  I don't remember, which is crazy, but I think I voted barefoot.  Hey, if I can preach without shoes, surely I can vote the same way!

In non-election news, today I got a lovely massage from an even lovelier friend, got my allergy shots, had coffee with a friend, and got into a car accident.  I'm OK, the people in the other car are OK, their car has some minor damage to the bumper.  My little car got smooshed.  The hubby, our neighbor, and the tow truck guy all said the damage wasn't that bad, just the hood, grill and radiator, but they also speculated that the insurance company might total it anyway because of its age (9 1/2 years) and its mileage (120,000+ miles).  I guess I'll find out tomorrow when the insurance person comes out.  I'm just SO pissed at myself right now.  Poor little car.  And I pretty much completely negated the effects of that lovely massage.  Sigh.

BFF's Birthday

Today is the BFF's birthday!  (For more background, see last year's post)  I have been thinking a lot of her the last few days, not only because of her birthday, but also because of her love of Madeleine L'Engle.  I am FINALLY on board that train, so she doesn't have to think I'm a total dork.  Actually, she thinks I'm a total dork for many many reasons, but that's OK.  She's also a dork and I love her to the moon and back.  Anyhoodle, as I was searching for shoes for yesterday's post I kept coming across shoes painted with Van Gogh's Starry Night.  This is one of the BFF's favorite paintings, so how appropriate that it came up in the context of one of her favorite authors?  So, in honor of my bestest friend in the whole wide world, here are shoes just for her:

I like that there's lots of blue in all of these shoes.  The BFF pretty much never wears heels, though.

She might be on board with these, though.  I love heels, but I like these better than the first pair.

Not really her style, either.  But pretty, and with a lot more the painting visible.

They even come in kid sizes!  Clearly the nephew needs a pair so he can match his mom.

I really like these.  A lot more abstract than the rest of the shoes, but I love the colors with the solid black shoe for background.

Now THESE are the BFF's style.  Too bad, like all flip flops, you have to step on the pretty part so no one can see it.

Happy Birthday, BFF!  Thanks for a fabulous 18 years of laughter and friendship.  You know I listened to The Beatles while writing this post, right?

Stars

I mentioned on Facebook yesterday that I can't believe I've never read Madeleine L'Engle's books.  I read A Wrinkle in Time this weekend and really liked it.  My dad said she is one of his favorite authors so he can't figure out why I never read her books.  The BFF also loves her and has often talked about her books throughout our friendship.  All I knew is that I had a vague memory of not wanting to read them as a kid.  As I was puttering around on the internet today I remembered why:

It was this cover.  It completely creeped me out, and yes, I judged a book by its cover.  I judged, freaked out, and refused to read it.  30 years later, a different cover, and I've finally remedied the situation.

So, since the book involves travel to different planets, tonight we're going with a stars/galaxies theme.

I didn't realize space was pink.  Heehee  But I like these shoes.

I don't like the style so much, but love the stars.

Nice!  It seems to be a series of galaxy tennies in different colors.

Blue.  Yay.  Still can't pull off high tops, though.

Wouldn't it be fun if space looked like this?  Weird, but fun.

Awww...the PB and I could have matching blue star shoes.

For you green fans out there.  I couldn't find a whole green pair, but this pair is very pretty.

Ooooh...if the PB had an older sibling we could ALL have matching shoes!

I really like these.  Not my usual color scheme, but you know I'm a sucker for an ankle strap.

Good night.  Please don't dream about that cover.  I don't want to be responsible for the nightmares.

4th of July

I am so very disappointed in the shoe calendar for today:

These are hideous in general; they are like a craft project gone horribly wrong.  They are from the 90s, but that doesn't even excuse them.  Plus, it's the 4th of July.  I don't need full on stars on stripes, but they couldn't go with the theme even a little bit?  I would have settled for a red or blue pair of shoes.  On the other hand, Shoe Box P--- totally went with the theme:

The pumps are cute.  The booties are hideous, but I will take hideous in the name of a theme over weird puff-ball sandals any day.

It's possible I'm just cranky because I am on day 2 of the monster bitch headache from hell, which is absolutely no fun.  Thankfully it's a holiday so I can stay home and relax and hope it goes away before tomorrow.   Hope you are having a fabulous day however you are celebrating!
