Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to my dad, father-in-law, brother, and brother-in-law!  Happy birthday to dads of all kinds: biological dads, step-dads, adoptive dads, single dads, father figures, uncles, godfathers, etc!  And for those of you for whom this day is hard, whether it's because you have lost your father or your father was not in your life but in it and not a good father, or you are a father who has lost a child, know that you are not alone and you are in thoughts and prayers today.

What can I say about my dad that I haven't already?  He and my mom nurtured my love of reading.  He took me hiking and camping and fishing.  He tried to teach me to parallel park, but I was way too angst-y and hormonal and adolescent-y to be a good student.  Because of him my taste in music tends to run to decades way before my time.  He tells awesomely bad dad jokes.  For instance:
  • The first line of the song Smoke Gets in Your Eyes is "they asked me how I knew our true love was true."  Because of my father I sing, "they asked me how I knew turtle soup was blue."
  • He used to sing to the dump to the dump to the dump dump dump to the tune of the Lone Ranger.
  • I have no idea why, but he used to say, "see that man over there with the stripe down his pants?  Looks like water, but it's snot."  (this one is better said out loud)
  • If you say, "you're back!" to my dad, he will reply, "and my front, too!"
  • When we leave he is fond of saying, "and we're off! Like a terd of hurtles!"
There are a million more, but for some reason I've been drawing a blank today trying to think of them. I even called my brother and he couldn't remember them, either.  Suffice it to say, he's a hoot, my dad.

Here are some shoes in honor of his awesomeness:

I might wear these in my size if I could find them.

The PB would definitely have these.

Wow, are these specific.

Or maybe I would them in this color combination.  OK, you know I'd have the blue pair.

Happy Father's Day, everyone!  Especially my dad, I love you!

I Have the Bestest Father!

Happy Father's Day to all of you dads out there!  Whether you are a father, step-father, father figure, related by blood, or not today we celebrate you!  I hope everyone has someone in their life who is like a father to them, whether literally or figuratively.  My dad is awesome, and I love him to the moon and back.  Thanks for being my daddy, Dad!

Did you see the Google doodle today?  It's like it knew I'd be writing this post:

Shoes!  And actually, rather than knowing I'd be writing this post, it gave me the idea for the theme, which is father-daughter shoes:

Awww...so sweet.

A little older, but still sweet.  And I like the blue shoes (duh).

I think that one shoe says "little man" so not exactly father-daughter shoes, but they'd still work for girls if they said something different.

I love these.  I wonder if my dad wants to get coordinating shoes with me?  Of course, I no longer have teeny tiny feet, so a picture wouldn't be nearly this cute.

Happy Father's Day to my dad and all of the dads out there!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all of the father's out there:  the biological, step, adoptive, godfathers, uncles, and anyone who steps into the role of father figure and loves their kiddos.  My dad is pretty darn awesome, and I had some wonderful grandpas, so I'm lucky in the dad department.  I also know some amazing fathers in general who I love and admire.  My dad isn't a shoe guy, so the following are shoes he would never wear, but I thought it would be fun to go colorful for this celebratory day.  We'll get a little help from Mr. Roy G. Biv.

I can't actually think of a dad I know who WOULD wear these.  Maybe for a costume?  Or for specific sports teams?  For instance, the orange and black pair are my school colors, so now also Double A's and The Bean's colors.  Actually, we can't escape it.  DJ, Flower, and Laughter all moved to different towns, but their colors are STILL orange and black.  So maybe those shoes would come in handy, and maybe you think of other specific occasions where the men in your lives might have cause to wear some of these.  In the meantime, I hope you've had the chance today to honor or remember the important father-figures in your life.

Fathers--Yay!

Facebook has been full of all sorts of great pictures of great pictures of all of my friends' fathers today.  I have some great dads in my life, starting with my very own daddy.  He's awesome.  He's human, so of course he has flaws.  In fact, he doesn't read my blog, so I could tell you all of them and he'd never know.  But that would be rude.  And I love him with all of his flaws, like he loves me with all of my flaws.  We're cool like that.  I hope you have/had a great dad in your life, whether biological or something else.

So.  Father's Day shoes.  My own dad isn't that much into shoes.  Give him a pair of sandals in the summer and some comfy shoes in the winter, and he's pretty much good.  Instead, we'll look at some shoes from the year he was born:

Yeah, mens shoes don't change much, do they?  At least not the classic ones.  These are from 1942, but the hubby has some shoes right now that are pretty similar.

Another fabulous dad in my life is my brother-in-law, Flower's and Laughter's dad.  He was born in 1969, when shoes weren't quite so classic.  These are awesome.  You know, in a dated, kind of horrible way.  I love the red buttons.  Wonder if I could talk the hubby into these?  He and my BIL are 3 days apart, so same birth year.  And yeah, I know I couldn't talk him into these.  Definitely wouldn't be able to talk the bro-in-law in to them.

Finally 1971, the year my brother was born.  He is DJ's, Double A's, and The Bean's dad.  These completely crack me up.  They are such grandpa shoes.  I'm going to get them in all of these colors for the brother for Christmas.  Because, you know, I like to torture him.

Happy Father's Day to all of you!  Whether you're a father or the child of a father, however that relationship came about, then I hope you celebrate those relationships today and every day.
