A Day of Many Things

Today, as the title suggests, is one of many things. First, it's Sunday and I actually went to church.  A friend of mine is the Priest in Charge at the Episcopal church here that I occasionally go to, and she asked if I would help with Sunday School this year.  So I went to church (it was Youth Sunday where they talked about what they learned in Kids Kamp, and all those little voices in the service made me happy) and then had lunch with the priest and the current Sunday School teacher with whom I'll be working.  I figure it's one way to start to get back and involved in church since I've been doing a crap job of it on my own.

In other news, today is Yellow Pig Day, which apparently is a mathematician's holiday.  Check out the link if you want to know more.  In the meantime here are some yellow pig shoes:

Yellow pigs kind of scare me a little bit.

Pink pigs on yellow shoes are better.

Today is also World Emoji Day.  Although, like Social Media Day, isn't every day kind of emoji day?

I don't necessarily want to wear either pair, but they are fun.  I like the bright colors on the black pair better.

It's also National Ice Cream Day!  This is definitely a holiday I can get behind.  We had frozen yogurt this afternoon, so that kind of counts as celebrating?

I've posted ice cream shoes before, but I don't think I've posted these?  I'm fairly certain about the pink pair and I'm positive I haven't posted the pair with the chocolate sprinkles.  Because you know me and chocolate.

It's also Peach Ice Cream Day, which seemed odd to me until I realized that National Ice Cream Day is the 3rd Sunday in July and Peach Ice Cream day is actually July 17, so they just happened to coincide this year.

This is what came up when I did the search for peach ice cream shoes.  They're very pretty, but do they remind me of peach ice cream?  Not really.  Too orange.  Which means they are perfect for SKD!

AND, it's National Tattoo Day!  I had no idea there was a holiday.  Now I do.  I should have done something for my 4 tattoos to celebrate.  I wonder what that would be?  Extra lotion?  They're own social media pages?  The perfect way to celebrate would be to get a 5th one, but the hubby might divorce me...

These are both odd, but kind of interesting.  And WAY better than some of the crazy-@$$ pictures of shoes that people have tattooed on themselves. You know I love me some shoes, but it has never once crossed my mind to get a tattoo of them.

Dang, July 17th is a busy day.  Finally, it's Scout's birthday!  Scout, you might remember, is Pippi's and Tink's big sister, and she turned 21 today.  Which makes me old.  Sigh.  Here is a picture of the 2 of us when I was about the same age she is now.

She was beautiful then and she's beautiful now, inside and out.

Ice Cream (Sort Of)

Guess what?  The hubby and I played hooky and left the office before 3:00 this afternoon!  It was like a tiny vacation.  We still worked from home, but it was nice to come hang out with the puppies.  I even had time to run errands tonight at a decent time.  To celebrate, and because it was a million degrees again, we just polished off a pint of ice cream each.  Except not really:

It's dairy-free, gluten-free, fat free, has a low glycemic index, and has protein and fiber.  AND it's only 150 calories a pint, so it's pretty awesome.  This is flavor I had tonight.  The hubby had cookie shake, I think.  There are about 20 flavors.  It's not Ben and Jerry's, but it's pretty darn yummy, and it's dessert the hubby can eat.  Plus, 150 calories verses the 12 billion in a pint of B&J's.

So, weird ice cream leads to weird ice cream shoes:

Oh, Irregular Choice.  You continue to be weird, and...well...irregular.

Ice Cream and Poetry

Some things never change, and some do.  What didn't change is that I stayed up way too late last night finishing a book.  What has changed is that "way too late" in this case was 11:15.  Last summer my sleep schedule was totally screwed up and way too late often meant 3 or 4 in the morning.  Now that we've opened the new office and I'm back to regular working hours, I've been going to bed at a more decent hour so I can wake up earlier.  Which also means that I'm posting at more decent times, at least when I'm awake enough to post.

Anyhoo, I'm actually posting tonight.  We're still at the office, but the hubby is working with the guy setting up our phone and computer systems, and it's after hours, so I figured I'd post.  According to my handy calendar, today is both National Ice Cream Pie day and National Soft Ice Cream Day.  Mmmm...ice cream.  Sounds awesome, especially with as hot it's been here the past few days.  I've posted ice cream shoes before, but here are some more:

The ice cream cone heels crack me up.  I enjoy the commitment to a theme.

I like this even better.  Love the colors.

Mmmmm...mint chocolate.  I kind of want to lick these...

No desire to lick these, though.  These are really quite ugly.

Very cute.  Chocolate AND sprinkles.  Fancy!

These are really cute; they seem like something out of a children's book.

Today is ALSO National Bad Poetry Day.

I won't comment on whether these consist of bad poetry or not.  I just like that they made shoe poems in the shape of shoes.

Did you know that I occasionally write my own bad poetry?  Here is a poem I wrote in seminary after way too much caffeine, and inspired by the comment of a friend on another poem I had shared at a seminary talent night thingie.

Bisexual Shoes

I once wrote a poem about lesbian pants
Which got me to thinking that maybe, perchance
Other items in my closet might be engaged in a dance
Around their sexual identity.

I could have a pair of bisexual shoes
Which through the footwear of my closet might cruise,
Searching for mates who might also choose
Alternative dating tendencies.

Shoes such as this could cause quite a sensation
Should I ever decide to give them presentation
Especially in light of Vision and Expectations
And other aspects of candidacy.

It’s thoughts such as these that keep me up at night
Thinking other Lutheran closets could be in such a plight
Since sexual identity is seen in such a light
As to be quite the absurdity.

And so I write poems about pants and my footwear
Creating  some silliness that I might then share
So other Lutherans might come to be aware
Of these potential wardrobe tragedies!

See?  Weird, bad poetry!  Now, go eat some ice cream and read/write some bad poetry of your own.

Hodge Podge

Today was a lovely and interesting day. Lovely because it was 75° and we ate lunch outside. Interesting because I ate steak for the first time without gagging (not sure how the hubby accomplished that), and because we went to a bbq with some friends tonight and I was totally relaxed and social the whole time. Not once did I have to find a quiet spot and be myself for a minute. These things are probably signs of the apocalypse, so don't say I didn't warn you. The puppies also went to the bbq with us. It was their first away from home social event and I can't believe how well they did. All in all a good day.

Since I was actually busy being social and eating red meat, I'm going to let the Pinterest Friend be in charge of the shoes tonight.

Didn't she find a fun and eclectic assortment for us? She's awesome.

Actually, only the first 4 are from the PF. The last one, while from Pinterest, is from a friend from seminary who now lives in New Jersey. She's also awesome, and high on my list of people I would like to be like when I grow up.

We'll, I've already sprung my clocks ahead and now it's time to snooze. Good night!

Hungry

I had another post planned for tonight (spoiler:  shoe shopping!), but then I had a couple of rather large asthma attacks earlier and now I am albuterol-hungover, exhausted, and my chest hurts.  This makes me too tired and lazy to get out of bed to take the pictures I meant to take.  I'm also hungry, but again, getting out of bed = bad.  Since I'm hungry I decided to further torture myself with food-related shoes.  Here are a few of them.  But only the cute ones, because no one needs raw meat shoes so soon after last night's creepiness.

Don't worry, I won't tell you the watermelon bag story AGAIN.  But these are adorable.  I would totally wear them on the 4th of July while spitting watermelon seeds into Flathead Lake.

Mmmm...frosting and sprinkles.

Martini?  There's a lime, so I'm going to go with margarita, since that's my choice of mixed drink.  Plus, this is my blog, so I can make up whatever stuff I want.

If I'm remembering French class correctly, this says something along the lines of red caramel apple shoe.  Which is what it looks like, although I've never seen red caramel.

Cake.  I wish I had cake.

And these are just sweet.  Also, ice cream would be nice.  Almost any variety of chocolate.  Or something really disgustingly decadent like Ben and Jerry's Dublin Mudslide.  I wonder if I gave them the keys if Chalupa and Tallulah would go get me some?

Awesomeness

I had a super productive day today.  I read, crocheted, cleaned, did laundry (even put laundry away, which is usually where I fail at that task), baked (tried 2 different recipes to make a gluten-free, sugar-free cheesecake), took the puppies for a walk, gave them a bath, and trimmed their toenails.  Now, to many of you, this probably sounds like a normal day.  But for me and my lack of motivation, I'm feeling pretty darn proud of myself.  Smug, if you will.  Rather awesome, as a matter of fact.  Am I annoying in my smugness, yet?  To go along with my mood, I did a search for awesome shoes:

I'd definitely say these were awesome.  Love the bright, fun colors and all of the crazy drawings.

I'm not sure I'd classify these as awesome, per se, but they are kind of fun.  Probably should have been a part of yesterday's post.

These might not look awesome.  Until I tell you that they are covered in teeny-tiny romance novel covers.  I find this hilariously awesome.  I would wear these.

Well, these just speak for themselves, don't they?  I think DJ was into Bobby Jack stuff for awhile.

PS--The hubby came home and is currently eating the cheesecake.  He says it is awesome!
