Wallowing

Let me start this post out on a positive note:  we had a bright moment of hope in our day today that I absolutely needed, and for which I am super grateful.  Before that happened I spent my morning pondering the question, "when is it acceptable to give up?"  And yes, I know that the answer to that is "it's not.  Keep going."  Also, I want to be clear that I don't mean giving up in any sort of permanent sense.  It's more that I just want to crawl into my blanket fort for 1-3 months.  I could nap, eat chocolate, and read, and when I emerged, rather than having transformed into a butterfly the world around me will have transformed.  The hubby will be healthy, our finances will be in hand, we won't be struggling to keep our heads above water all the damn time.  Sigh, that's called denial.  I understand this.  But the daydream is nice sometimes.  We do keep having bright spots, and those are the things that are keeping me going right now, but the things that are dragging me down are numerous:
  • We're still in limbo about the hubby's health
  • This is the week for me that the migraine hits.  Tuesday was the worst, but the darn thing has been lingering ever since
  • My blood sugar has been up, which freaks out the hubby and makes him worry that I'm going to get diabetes and die (yes, this is a bit of a trigger for him)
  • I HATE the job search process.  I'm qualified!  I'm educated!  I show up on time, I'm professional, and I'm nice, dammit.  Someone should want to hire me.
  • It is 9 billion degrees this week
  • We are about to lose our storage unit.  There have been several times in the past week or so when we though things would work out so we'd be able to pay our past-due balance, but they've all fallen through.  All of our stuff goes up for auction on Saturday.  90% of it really is just stuff that I'm mostly OK with being without.  The other 10% has me heartbroken, though, as it's irreplaceable.  I should have found time before it reached this point to go get that stuff out, but I didn't.  Because I suck.  And now I feel stupid.
  • I have numerous friends who are hurting right now for various reasons and I can't do a thing to help any of them.  This makes me feel like a horrible person.  I love them, I should be able to help them in some tangible way.
  • There are a bunch of other things that combine to make me feel like a giant, stupid, loser-failure.
OK, I'm done.  I just needed to wallow for a bit.  Tomorrow I will try to do a post about happy, positive things in my life, because they do exist.

Since this post is about wallowing, what's more appropriate than piggy shoes?

Oh my goodness.  It's a pig in a tutu and teeny tiny high tops!  This is ridiculous.  Or maybe it's repigulous!  And adorable.

I actually knew a kid who had these shoes.  The piggy bum cracks me up.

They are soooo happy!

I would like this better if the shoe wasn't pink so the piggies would pop a little better.

I think I need green boots for wallowing days.  And a teeny tiny boot wearing pig to accompany me.  Now, will someone PLEASE make me a magical blanket fort to to which I can escape?

A Day of Many Things

Today, as the title suggests, is one of many things. First, it's Sunday and I actually went to church.  A friend of mine is the Priest in Charge at the Episcopal church here that I occasionally go to, and she asked if I would help with Sunday School this year.  So I went to church (it was Youth Sunday where they talked about what they learned in Kids Kamp, and all those little voices in the service made me happy) and then had lunch with the priest and the current Sunday School teacher with whom I'll be working.  I figure it's one way to start to get back and involved in church since I've been doing a crap job of it on my own.

In other news, today is Yellow Pig Day, which apparently is a mathematician's holiday.  Check out the link if you want to know more.  In the meantime here are some yellow pig shoes:

Yellow pigs kind of scare me a little bit.

Pink pigs on yellow shoes are better.

Today is also World Emoji Day.  Although, like Social Media Day, isn't every day kind of emoji day?

I don't necessarily want to wear either pair, but they are fun.  I like the bright colors on the black pair better.

It's also National Ice Cream Day!  This is definitely a holiday I can get behind.  We had frozen yogurt this afternoon, so that kind of counts as celebrating?

I've posted ice cream shoes before, but I don't think I've posted these?  I'm fairly certain about the pink pair and I'm positive I haven't posted the pair with the chocolate sprinkles.  Because you know me and chocolate.

It's also Peach Ice Cream Day, which seemed odd to me until I realized that National Ice Cream Day is the 3rd Sunday in July and Peach Ice Cream day is actually July 17, so they just happened to coincide this year.

This is what came up when I did the search for peach ice cream shoes.  They're very pretty, but do they remind me of peach ice cream?  Not really.  Too orange.  Which means they are perfect for SKD!

AND, it's National Tattoo Day!  I had no idea there was a holiday.  Now I do.  I should have done something for my 4 tattoos to celebrate.  I wonder what that would be?  Extra lotion?  They're own social media pages?  The perfect way to celebrate would be to get a 5th one, but the hubby might divorce me...

These are both odd, but kind of interesting.  And WAY better than some of the crazy-@$$ pictures of shoes that people have tattooed on themselves. You know I love me some shoes, but it has never once crossed my mind to get a tattoo of them.

Dang, July 17th is a busy day.  Finally, it's Scout's birthday!  Scout, you might remember, is Pippi's and Tink's big sister, and she turned 21 today.  Which makes me old.  Sigh.  Here is a picture of the 2 of us when I was about the same age she is now.

She was beautiful then and she's beautiful now, inside and out.

Fuzzy

I'm tired (yes...still at the office) so I typed in "fuzzy slippers."  I was drawn to the animal ones tonight:

I'll take a pair of each, and a nap to go with each pair!  Please?  (although I do think the pig ones are a little odd, but still cute).  Hopefully there is sleep, if not fuzzy slippers, in my very near future.

Memory Lane: Nothing!  I didn't post on June 10th once in the last 3 years.  It was the first day I ever missed in my attempt to blog every day.  AND, I almost didn't post tonight because of the tired.  Wonder what it is about June 10th that makes me not post?

Baby Blue Blankie

Shhhh...I'm writing this at the office, don't tell my boss!  Said boss is actually at a meeting, our one current employee is home sick, and I'm taking advantage of the quiet to write a quick post. Are there other things I should be doing?  Yes, but nothing that can't wait.  And I just found out that my latest project has arrived at its destination, so I can share it here and not ruin the surprise on the off-chance they read the blog.

This is for the new baby of a family at St. Someone's.  He's a little over a month old, and super cute.  Which isn't surprising as his older brother has always been super cute (Mom and Dad must have super-cute-baby genes)

*Happy side-note:  Said older brother wore orange to his baptism, so I, of course, matched my shoes to his shirt.  Yes, I was an incredibly dorky pastor.

*Unhappy side-note:  I'm trying not to take it horribly personally how many people from St. Someone's have un-friended me on Facebook since I left.  This makes me sad.

Enough side-notes.  Back to the post.  It's time for some blue, crocheted shoes.

I think Toms has these in pretty much every color.  I approve.  These are my wedding color, so of course I approve of these the most.

Adorable.  The Potential Baby might have to have some.  Which means this business had better do well so I can spend my days at home crocheting instead of at the office writing blog posts. Heehee.

See?  I'll need the time to make sure the PB has a different pair of adorable shoes for every day of his or her baby life.

I love these.  I'd wear them as slippers if they came in my size.

How cute are these?  Maybe the puppies need some puppy shoes?

Blue pigs.  Why are the piggies blue?  And why is there one random pair that's not blue?

Oh hell no.

I couldn't leave you with that last pair.  These are much better.  And the girlier version of that first pair.

Dang, I keep forgetting that the PB would need matching hats.  Maybe the hubby and I shouldn't have a baby...the obsessive perfectionism might kill me.

Look 2 posts in a week!  I've actually missed writing.  Maybe I'll be able to find some more time/inspiration to write a little more often going forward.  For now I need to get back to work before I get fired.

Ribbons

The other night I wrote about how I loved these shoelaces more than the shoes (or at least loved the shoes because of the shoelaces).

Mom wrote in  a comment that I could just go buy the ribbon and have my very own pair.  To which I had to smack myself in the forehead and say, "well, duh!"  She's so smart.  Tonight as I was out running errands I took a detour to find some ribbon.  I didn't find this particular ribbon (I will keep looking), but found a couple of other choices.  Wanna see?  Of course you do!

See?  Fun!  Or maybe I'm just odd, but I kind of don't care, because I think these are fun.

As are these.  Look how well the blue polka dots match the blue shoes!  I think I might have found a new obsession.  Thankfully ribbon is cheap.   Do you think I could do a kickstarter campaign for canvas shoe money?  Here are some other fun examples of ribbon shoelaces:

These make me think of a bumblebee.  Or really peppy prison shoes?  What do you think...are the white with black stripes or black with white stripes?

Adorable!

Oooh...I love these polka dot ribbons. So fun.

Pig ribbons!  AND a patchwork shoe!

Today was an extremely difficult day.  It's the hubby and work, and I don't want to go into it, but he didn't have a good day, and he was super depressed.  So of course I was super depressed, and felt like it was my fault.  Which it isn't, I know this.  But the fact that I don't have a job is certainly my fault.  So I took on way too many emotions today, not all of them mine.  I need a job.  (don't get me started on how big of a loser I feel about still not having that particular poop in a group)  I got ribbon shoelaces.  Not really a comparable tradeoff, but at least the ribbons perked me up quite a bit.

Slippers

I know, I know.  It's been forever again since I've posted.  The hubby and I have been really busy working on a giant project and I've been too tired to post at night.  I'm exhausted right now, but at least I'll get to bed before 4:30 am like I did on Sunday night.  I was convinced I could finish that step of the project, but it turned out I had another seven hours when I started again at 10:30 on Monday.  Ugh.  Anyway, my cousin posted this series of pictures on my Facebook page the other day, and they seem appropriate for my current level of sleepiness:

I'll take a pair of each and rotate through them every 10 days.  The advantage working from home is the ability to wear silly slippers whenever you want.  Must sleep, now.  As Effie Trinket would say, tomorrow's "another big big day!"

Aaah...Lunch

I had lunch with a lovely friend today.  Actually, I think you might be able to accurately use the word "broad" to describe her.  But in a totally good way.  She just lays it out there.  Says it like she sees it.  From some people I would be completely offended by half of what she says.  From her it just seems normal.  So it was a good time all around.  The setting didn't hurt, either:

This is at a place called Phillips Farms, or just The Farm.

Clearly this means we need farm shoes.  Because cows and piggies are cute.

See?  Barns are also cute on shoes!

Heehee.  This whole thing makes me giggle.

Is it weird that I would wear these?  The sheep ones would be perfect for all of the sheep story Sundays at church.

Farm equipment shoes!

I'm not sure what's on the green boots.  Horses and cow pattern fit the farm pattern, though.

So, lunch at The Farm.  Farm shoes.  Old McDonald had a farm.  Yeah, I just needed a third something to finish that sentence.

Random:  I got home this afternoon and the hubby hadn't turned the AC on (I know this sounds weird to those of you who have had snow in the last week...we have had temps in the 90s).  It was 84 degrees in the house and he was wearing a sweatshirt.  My husband was weird.
