First Time For Everything

I got pulled over for the first time in my life last night.  As I was running errands for church I noticed that I had a headlight out.  So of course as I was driving home last night I got pulled over.  And the cop was behind me, so he must have noticed the lack of glare in the vehicle in front of me and on came his lights.  So I pulled over and we went through the spiel.  He was actually really nice, and I didn't freak out as much as I had expected I might.  Since I have never been pulled over in 20+ years of driving I always kind of wondered if when it happened if I would immediately start crying or something silly.  Thankfully that didn't happen, he didn't give me a ticket, and I got the headlight fixed today.

In a fun coincidence, this week is community helpers week at our preschool and today was the today that the police officer came to visit.  Oh my goodness, the pictures of the kiddos getting handcuffed were priceless.  I know that sounds funny, but the pictures really were cute.

Cops don't get to wear fun shoes.  But in their honor I went looking to see what I could find.

Wow. These are definitely shoes with a theme.  Dang.  I can't even come up with full sentences to describe them.

I don't know this for sure, but these shoes give me the feeling that they are part of a Halloween costume with "sexy" in the title.  Ugh.

Very similar...giving me similar feelings of potential ooginess.

Oh wait...these are oogier.

Here's a little palate cleanser. These are really cute.  I love little kids' light up shoes.

Awwww.  Those *might* not be police cars, but let's just pretend, OK?

Hopefully last night wil be the end of my life of crime.  I shall endeavor to mend my ways...

Auntie's Boys

I love The Beatles.  I've written about this before, and again.  This love was one of the first things that made the BFF and I realized we were meant for each other.  February 9th is the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, so there are all kinds of specials happening.  One of them is on tonight, and I've been setting the DVR so I can indulge.  I think it was Flower who started calling them "Auntie's boys."  Not sure if she couldn't remember their names or if she just preferred that name for them.  I've made it my mission to make sure they know who The Beatles are and to at least know all of the words to Yellow Submarine if nothing else.  So, even though I've done it before, I'm doing more Beatles' shoes.  I'll probably do it again, just be forewarned.

I opted not to look and see how much these vintage shoes would be.  I shall just admire them here.  Actually, they aren't necessarily the shoes I would choose first, even though I appreciate them from a historic perspective.

These I love. Want them.  Would wear them with my many Beatles t-shirts.

Love these, too.  See comment above.

These frighten me.  A lot.  Why is George green?  He looks like The Hulk.

There are lots more.  As I said, I'm sure you'll be seeing more as I watch more and more specials and immerse myself in my favorite group of all time.

Weird

I need a little whimsy in my life today after a difficult day.  So I went in search of odd shoes to brighten my evening.  Let me tell you, there are some WEIRD shoes out there.  Here are just a few.

I know I'm being way too literal here, but this is just disgusting and unhygienic.  Yes, I know it's not a real sandwich, but eeeeewwww.

I'm  not really into cars, but lots of women are, and maybe they would find these shoes cute in kind of a funny way?  I do like that color though, and wouldn't mind having a real car that shade.

Candyland threw up?

Speaking of not very hygienic, even though they're wrapped, would you still want to eat candy out of someone's shoe?  And if you're going to store candy in your shoe, shouldn't you at least try to make it a cute shoe?

Poor doggies.  It seems mean to make the beg AND walk around on their heads all day...

Well, huh.  The shoe itself isn't actually bad, but damn.  Those are some themed shoes, aren't they?  Where exactly would you wear giraffe shoes of this kind?

Thankfully looking at weird shoes (or shoes in general) can make me feel slightly better.  The  hour long soak in the tub with a book, helped too.  Now for bed and sleep.

Shoe Stuff

I got back from my allergy shots and physical therapy (try not to be jealous of the excitement) today and got a lovely gift from our preschool director.  She'd been at the dollar store for some reason and found this:

Shoe wine glass!  I don't drink a lot of wine (the hubby doesn't drink and I can drink about a half a glass every couple of weeks, so opening a bottle seems silly), but I will definitely have to start drinking the occasional wine from a shoe glass!  I could probably drink water out of it, too.  Or chocolate milk or something.  She got me 2; isn't she sweet?

The Pinterest Friend has continued sending me pins, but I have been remiss in sharing.  So here are 2 from the last month or so.

It was labeled something like "the perfect way to store rings."  Sometimes I think Pinterest folks have too much time on their hands.  While I appreciate that someone came up with this, I find it less than attractive.  Basically I store my rings in my jewelry box.  I guess you can see them better this way, but I can guarantee I'm finding a much cuter shoe if I ever try something like this!  Oh, and please don't think I'm being rude to the PF here.  I love that she sends me stuff she finds.  On a side note, she loves owls, so the fact that there are 2 in this picture makes it pretty awesome.

She also sent these.  Red?  Sparkles?  T-strap?  Whats not to love?  These would definitely have a place in my imaginary closet in the imaginary life where I live in a 50's musical.  Ooooh...think of the outfit that would go with these!  I have a council meeting tonight to go over the constitution and by-laws of our congregation...would it be wrong of me to search for said outfit during that time?

Sweaters

I love sweaters.  I used to like to wear lots and lots of layers during the winter.  The cozier the better.  These days the hubby gets cold, but I rarely do.  Usually I'm stripping down to as few layers as are socially acceptable.  So I miss layers.  I miss sleeping in flannel pjs and flannel sheets.   But I really miss cozy sweaters.  Maybe I'll have to start wearing sweater shoes.

These are cutely hideous.  Hideously cute?  They're like an ugly sweater turned into tennis shoes.  But in a fabulous way.

These are my idea of a cozy sweater turned to shoes.  These just look snuggly and comfy, and I like the flower detail.

Oh dear.  No.  Ugly sweater shoes strike again, but not in a fabulous way this time.  These are also from the Irregular Choice site, if that helps explain anything.

You might think I'm weird, but I would wear these.  These are like a Norwegian sweater turned into shoes.  I miss my Nordic sweaters.  They live in MT these days because it's never cold enough here to wear them.  I didn't even wear them while I was home because I was too darn hot all the time.

I now kind of want to turn all of my favorite sweaters into shoes.

"Winter" Fun

We had our third annual Winter Carnival during Sunday School this morning. It's a fun day of crafts and snacks and games, a bit of a break from the normal schedule. Well, I think it's fun. My kids are apparently jaded. I decorated, had a winter story, several winter snacks, pin the hat on the polar bear, bean bag toss that looked like a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallow bean bags, actual hot chocolate and marshmallows, snacks, and goodie bags. I even wore my snowman socks and earrings. One kid walked in, looked around and said, "I thought we were having winter carnival, but this sucks." Another kid walked in, rolled his eyes, sighed, and said "I expected more." Oooookay. Apparently the polka dot shoes from yesterday didn't quite cheer me up because I almost started to cry. Good times, let me tell you. Oh well, I tried. Hopefully you will like these snowflake shoes better:

If I had gotten married in the winter, I would have totally wanted these as my wedding shoes.

Also wedding shoes. Love the detailing, but of course the color should be blue. Because blue is awesome.

So cute! It's too hot here for winter themed sweaters, so I might need something like these instead.

Not the cutest baby shoes I've ever posted, but still sweet. And blue.

It's hard to think winter when it's almost 70 degrees. I'm not saying I need my own personal polar vortex or anything, but some rain and cooler temps would be nice. Guess I'll have to settle for cute snowflake shoes.

Polka Dot Therapy

We did a funeral today for a very dear and wonderful man who died suddenly last week.  He was one of those people who touched a lot of lives because he was kind, funny, generous, and completely genuine.  There were easily 400 people crammed into the sanctuary for the service.  I know it's weird, but for some funerals I plan my shoes to go with what I think the person might have liked, or their favorite color, or something.  Just a small tribute.  For today I went with my most whimsical pair because of all the silly jokes this man always had to tell and because of our snot conversations.  He and I both had sinus and allergy issues.  I was always running into him in waiting rooms at doctor's offices and after awhile it was like we were on the same schedule for allergy shots.  So we would hang out for our 30 minute post-shot wait time and talk about snot.  We'd talk about other things, too, but snot was a big topic (especially since the hubby doesn't like me to share those stories with him).  You've seen the shoes before, but here they are again:

These are definitely high on the list of my favorites.

Today was hard for a lot of reasons.  The service was lovely, but it's always hard saying good-bye.  The rest of the day was rough, too.  Nothing I'm going to get into right now, but I needed a little more whimsy tonight, so I went looking for more polka dots.  Call it retail therapy by "window shopping."

These are all kinds of ridiculous.  I should probably hate them.  I love them.  I would wear them for Easter.

I think this woman is wearing white tights, but this is my actual leg color, so clearly these would look good on me...

I really love the red-black-white-polka dot combination.  Would it be weird to have like 6 different pairs in that color scheme?

These are also very Easter-y.  I liked them better when I first saw them.  Having second thoughts now.  Apparently emotional days make me wishy-washy.

Irregular

One of my fabulous bible study ladies (FBSL) sent me a link today for a website she found called Irregular Choice.  It's an appropriate name, because there are some strange shoes.  Here is a sampling:

These are...interesting?  It's just too much.  It's like 4 shoes got smooshed together.  Could they not have gone with a bit more of a cohesive theme?

Gotta love the Mary Jane style.  Not so much with the smooshing again.  Take out the snakeskin and I might be on board with these.

Damn.  Is that a lucite heel?  These are stripper shoes for little girls?

Oh man, I totally should have had these for my monsters post.  These are hilarious.  Wait, is that a fin?  Are these sharks?
Just no.

You should definitely go check out the site because there is more craziness to be had, and you know you need more crazy.  I can't give them too much of a hard time, though, as they did have my Scottie Dog shoes.  Still can't afford them, but there they are if I ever win the lottery.

Thought Process

Posting on the Kindle Fire again tonight as my laptop is at church. I was sitting here pondering what to write about and for some reason the word pickles popped in my head. Wait...pickles? What the heck? That's not a blog post. So pickles made me think cucumbers which made me think of the produce I bought tonight for juicing. Produce made me think veggies and veggies made me think Veggie Tales. There is really no rhyme or reason for this, it's just how my brain works sometimes. Aren't you so very glad I shared?

At least I got some cute baby shoes out of the deal. Hopefully tomorrow I'll give you something a little less weird. Or not. I make no guarantees.

Audiobooks

Since I finished listening to all 7 Harry Potter books on audio (so sad), I have moved on to the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series.  The hubby got a bunch for Christmas (OK, so some of them were from me, which might have been a little self serving), so I put them on my ipod and off I went.  I just started the third one, The Titan's Curse today.  Oh!  Which reminds me, I just finished The Sea of Monsters, which went perfectly with the monster theme from a couple of days ago.  Man, there are monsters everywhere!  Good thing I can punch them!  Anyway, I'm not going to post shoes for every book like I did with HP, but thought I'd go see what was out there since I've been listening.

Wow.  That's dedication and some nerdiness right there.  Not that I would know anything about nerdiness, or about obsessing over a series of books.  Nope.  Not me.

These are from the first book, The Lightening Thief.  Go read it, its too much to explain.

I wish this picture was bigger, because it seems to be artwork from the book covers.  I see these types a lot when I search for book-related shoes.  While I might not wear them, I think they're kind of cool in that obsessed and nerdy kind of way.

OK, it's been a long first day back in the office after vacation.  Time to call it a night.

Mary Janes

My seester left me a hilarious voicemail that I got while I was at the Salt Lake airport on Friday.  She had been watching Dennis the Menace with Flower and Laughter and the voicemail was her quoting one of the many hilarious lines from the movie.  I started to laugh hysterically and got some rather strange looks from the people sitting near me.  Tonight I was wanting something to watch while I folded laundry and there was Dennis the Menace!  I had totally forgotten I'd owned it.  So now I am watching it and totally cracking up.  Anyway, the Margaret character spends the whole movie in dresses and Mary Janes, so I decided I needed to go ogle some.  At first I was just looking at blue ones, but then I thought I'd branch out so those of you who like other colors besides blue could play too.

Love these.  Totally covet them.

Oooh...adorable AND practical!

DJ is totally into camo right now, so these are for her .

Purple and funky.  Love the details.

Also funky.  Not terribly fond of the heel, but I love the rest of the shoe.

Pooooolka dots!

So, what have we learned this evening?  We have learned that I nee to peruse my movie collection more often, and that I need to buy some MaryJanes.

Calendar Recap

I'm posting late tonight for no good reason.  It was a typical Sunday, with 2 worship services, Sunday School, a nap, and a minimum amount of football with the hubby.  As I've mentioned before, one of the fun things about coming home from vacation is that I get to go through a whole bunch of calendar pictures all at once.  I give to you now without commentary because there are a lot and I am tired.  You will have to make your own sarcastic comments and observations tonight (I know, I know...you'll be taking it out of my pay...)
