FBaWtFT

So, I finally (sadly) found something for which I couldn't find corresponding shoes.  Tonight I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is the new movie set in the world of Harry Potter.  It was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed it, but I couldn't find any shoes.  Apparently the fan-created shoes aren't out there yet, which is a bummer, because you know how I love a good theme.  Instead of shoes from the movie, tonight's shoes are Hufflepuff, which I've done before, but the main character in the movie, Newt Scamander, is a Hufflepuff, so that's as close to a theme as I'm going to get.  Plus, Double A and The Bean did the Sorting Hat quiz on Pottermore and were both sorted into Hufflepuff, so they should enjoy these shoes:

These are adorable and the nieces would love them.  They should make themselves some.

I love the ties.  I don't know why I would find shoes with ties so adorable, but I do.

Love the pattern.

I'm not sure you can read the text, but it talks about the characteristics of someone in Hufflepuff: they are just and loyal, and all kinds of good stuff.

Wow.  I...just...wow.  And not really in a good way.

Fleep flops!

I have a hormone headache tonight, which is pounding and making it hard to think straight, so I apologize for this post if it is even more random or full of typos than usual.  Anyone have anything that works for hormone headaches, by the way?  Nothing really works for me except to wait it out, which is annoying.  I'll gladly take your suggestions.

Introverting

I saw this shirt on Facebook recently, and I think I need it:

I definitely haven't been getting enough introvert time lately, so I thought I'd do a post about it and pretend.

Introverting definitely needs some snuggly wuggly slippers, in my opinion.  And yes, I just made introvert into a verb.

Bunny slippers are a classic for a reason.  I could wear these for more whimsical introvert times.

A good introvert activity is to hang out and watch movies, so themed slippers seem appropriate.  The Chewie slippers crack me up. I'm not sure I want to put my foot in Darth Vader's mouth, though.

Reading Harry Potter sounds like the perfect introvert activity.  I would need these slippers.

Oooh, I definitely need these slippers!  And to listen to some Beatles while introverting and reading Harry Potter.

You know I love dragonflies, and I love the colors of these, but I want them to be more snuggly wuggly.  Maybe they are and they just don't look like it from the picture?  Not sure.  What I am sure of is that I need some slippers and a book and some Beatles and some puppy snuggles and a whole day of not talking to another person one day soon.  I should figure out how to accomplish that.

Book Lovers Day

I'd love to stay and chat, but it's National Book Lovers Day and I must go read.  Here are some Harry Potter shoes to celebrate.

I Heart Librarians

Today is National Librarian Day, and my daddy is a (retired) librarian!  To celebrate the day, and the love of reading instilled in me by both of my parents, here are a few book-inspired shoes:

Ohmygoodness I love these.  And I want to read them.

Love me some Harry Potter.  These shoes had better be made out of photo copies, though, and not actual book pages, or I'm going to be super grumpy.

Same here.  I also love Jane Eyre.  It's my favorite from the Bronte sisters.  I pretty much loathed Wuthering Heights and wanted to smack everyone.

Lord of the Ring shoes.  These are awesome.  I can't read Elvish, though, so hopefully there's nothing inappropriate written on these...

Awww....baby Babar shoes!

The day is almost over here, and already over for most of you, but you should definitely thank a librarian one of these days.  I would say hug one, but that might get awkward, unless said library is your father.  Love you, Mr. Daddy, you're my favorite librarian on the planet!

Memory Lane: 2013. 2015.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

Today would have been my Grandpa Harry's 110th birthday.  I posted this on Facebook today, but have to share it again as I think it's too funny:

The seester's squinty smile is adorable, I look slighly guilty, and Grandpa looks either bewildered or somewhat disgusted by whatever it is I'm feeling guilty about.  I wish I'd had him in my life for longer, but I'm grateful to have known and been loved by him.  Here are some shoes inspired by my grandpa:

Harry Potter shoes!  My grandpa, one of my favorite literary characters, and one of my favorite seminary professors all share a name. If the PB is a boy, I think I should try to convince the hubby that Harry would be an awesome name.

Grandpa didn't have a middle name, just a middle initial:  S.  These shoes are a little strange, and I'm not sure that's actually supposed to be an S or if it's just an artistic squiggle, but as I'm rather partial to that particular initial myself, I'll take it.

I have searched for McKenzie shoes a million times before and never found any.  Until tonight!  Yay Grandpa's birthday!  These aren't actually shoes, just shoe clips, but I don't care.  Hmmm...these would have been awesome with my wedding shoes.  Time to plan another imaginary wedding!

Zazzle comes through again.  McKenzie plaid tennies!  I'm going to have to start saving my pennies and get me some.  Then I'll have to save lots more pennies and get a pair for every member of the family.

These are from 1906, supposedly, and they're adorable.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

Memory Lane: 2013 ALSO includes plaid!. 2014. 2015 (you might recognize one of these pairs of shoes).

3 Things:
  1. My grandpa, and the memories I have of him.
  2. Today was a mostly lazy day.  I was productive in some ways, but I also spent a good chunk of the day crocheting and watching Netflix.  Delightful.
  3. I made my mom snort coffee today.  Which sounds mean.  Sorry, Mom!  But thanks for chatting with me and thinking I'm occasionally funny.

Book 7

Yesterday I mentioned how I wished I could read and crochet at the same time.  Ideally, I would love to be able to read, crochet and soak in a hot bath at the same time.  The last couple of days I have kind of managed 2 of the 3.  As you know, I've been working my way through the Harry Potter series while I drive, but since I got to the last one I've been listening to it while I crochet as well.  I always get like this at the end.  I want to race to the end to see how it all turns out (even though I already know), but I also know that once I'm done I will be bereft and sad about the ending.  Sigh...the struggles of a reader.  Anyway, I'm over half way through The Deathly Hallows

If you've read the book, you will know what the symbol on the shoes is about.  If you haven't, what the hell is the matter with you?  Read the books!  I like the simplicity of the last pair of shoes the best.  Awesome.  I will be sad to finish the series (until I start them again in a year or so), and sad that I won't be sharing shoes from each book with you.  Although maybe you'll be glad not to be bombarded with yet another HP post, since I've done something like 11 of them...

Book 6

I started listening to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on Sunday.

One advantage to being lost is that I got extra listening time in.  The problem with being on book 6 of 7 is that I now don't want to only listen in the car.  I want to listen when I should be working.  I always get this way toward the end of the series:  I want to find out how it ends (as though it will end differently than the first million read-throughs), but I also know I will be all sad and bereft when I am done.  Thankfully this isn't a graded paper, because I can't come up with a decent transition between the book cover and the shoes, so I'm just going to tell you I'm transitioning and show you the shoes:

There.  Now you've seen the shoes.  Which should look entirely familiar if you spent even a tiny bit of time looking at the book cover.

Harry Potter, as I've mentioned before, has been my car book for the last couple of months.  I also have several other books in the mix as well:

I've been reading this one on my phone.  It's the book I read when I am waiting for stuff.  This one happens to be number 5 in a series that apparently will never ever end.  There are currently 7, with an 8th one coming out in March.  It was supposed to be done 1 or 2 books ago, but the bloody woman keeps writing.  I'd just give up, but it's been a 20 year commitment and I want some closure.  I am trying to reread them before the next one comes out because at almost a thousand pages a book, it's hard to keep the details straight.  I'm not going to make it if I only read it in small snatches, though.

This is also on my phone.  I read it when I just can't do the other one.  I've been slogging away at The Fiery Cross fairly well lately, but it's nice to have a back-up waiting book.

I should actually be done with this one by now, but I've been busy and tired and haven't been reading as much before I go to bed as usual. This is the book I read at home, usually at bedtime, but whenever else I can sneak in a few pages as well.

This is technically on hold until I finish House of Hades, but I'm in the process of reading it, so I'll count it as another back-up.

I'm guessing you don't really care what I'm reading, but it's my blog, so I'll blather about whatever I want.  And, just to bring the blog full-circle and back to Harry Potter, I will leave you with this:

And also this:  If I could just get a paycheck and benefits for reading whatever and whenever I want, that would be fan-freaking-tastic.

Book 5

I got my technical difficulties sorted last week and was able to finish Goblet of Fire and move on to The Order of the Phoenix.

This is my least favorite book of the series.  It's the point when things really start turning dark, but the reason I dislike this book so much is because everyone is cranky/snarky/grumpy, and Harry is just angry and pissy the entire book.  There are mitigating circumstances for this, but it still makes the book hard to get through.  There are parts I still enjoy, but they mostly tend to happen toward the end, so I still need to slog through to get them.  Oh well.  Even my least favorite book in this series is still way better than any number of other books I've read.

So, since there aren't a lot of things I really enjoy, we're just going to use the title, and look at shoes with a phoenix theme:

Pretty!  I'm not sure about the shape of this particular shape, but I really like the material.

These are kind of crazy, but they definitely go with a theme; there's even fire shooting up the sides.  Not sure if that's fire or something else on the soles, though.

Boots!  These look like they also have a dragon theme.  Or maybe they only have a dragon theme, and they came up anyway in my phoenix search.

Oh my goodness.  Wow.  That's...busy?  There is definitely have a LOT going on here.  Can you imagine if I were to wear these to church?

Book 4

I'm a little over half-way through listening to The Goblet of Fire.  I would be further, but I keep having technical difficulties with my iPod.  Does it not understand my needs???  Rude technology.

Anyhoo, I was living in Texas when this one came out.  I remember pre-ordering the book, going to Borders the day it came out, and then spending ALL day reading the entire book.  It was an awesome day.  I also remember when the publicity came out for it saying something like, "Wow, look how grown up Harry is getting!"  My aunt just gave me a look like I was weird.  Which I was.  Whatever.  In Book 4 Harry is involved in the Tri-Wizard tournament, and ends up having to get past a dragon in of of the tasks.  So today I bring you dragon shoes!

These aren't real, but I wish they were.  I would wear these.

Shut up.  They're cute, OK?  Baby feet need dragons, too.

Oh.  My.  Goodness.  These are insane.  I've never been high, but I'm just imagining someone who was staring at these and freaking out.

Awesome.  I would also wear these.  They are a little bit creepy, but that's why I like them.
