Peppermint

Today our worship and music director and I were having a conversation about crochet patterns.  She googled a certain kind of crochet toy, and up popped all of these images of super tiny crocheted things.  Here is an example:

 

 

This is seriously teeny tiny.  Anyway, it led to a conversation about how I should make one of these and it could go along with the book about the snail and his shell.  She was actually referring to this book,

 

 

but it made me think of a different book from my childhood about a snail.  Of course, I couldn't think of what it was called.  We searched for it (although not knowing the title or the author, it was more difficult) but didn't find it.  So I called my mom and asked her about it.  She thought it was called Peppermint, or possibly Purplemint, because the snail has a peppermint shell but ends up with purple paint on it.  So I looked some more and still couldn't find it.  The internet, and my brain, failed me today. Mom is going to look and see if it is still in the shoe box at her house. 

 

You know, of course, that this then led to more searching, this time for shoes...

 

 

OK, this is not shoes.  But it goes with the theme.  Still not from the book, though.

 

 

These are taking a theme just a little too far.

 

I love these, though.   Very festive, but in a somewhat more subtle way.

 

Cute, but also a little too themed.  You could definitely wear them around Christmas.  With some kind of horrible Peppermint holiday sweater!

 

I know, I'm sorry.  They were just too cute to resist!  I think my hormones are trying to tell me something.  They need to be telling the hubby, though, not me.



 

 

 

Black...and Black

OK, I confess....I'm writing this during an all-boards meeting.  Don't tell the senior pastor.  I actually pay better attention and am much better behaved when I have something to do while I sit in meetings.  Usually I crochet.  Tonight I'm writing a blog entry.  So, I actually remembered it was Tuesday in time to ask someone for a number. Today's number comes from the BFF who gave me 321.  Without further ado, here is page 321 from the handbags book:

 

 

OK. It's black, it's simple, but it's got some nice detailing.  Probably wouldn't jump out at me from a pile of handbags, but I do like the sparkle.

 

The shoe book also provided black today:

 

 

Well, mostly black. That clear mesh is a little odd.  Although, I'm not thinking of the crazy socks you could wear with these boots for a little fun and goofiness.

 

I wear a lot of black because of my clerical collars.  My shoes are where I bring in some color.  So while I have  few pairs of black shoes, I'd rather buy pretty, colorful ones.  But, since today's theme is black, I went looking for black shoes. 

 

 

 

Black doesn't have to mean boring.  Details are always fun.  I still prefer a bit more color, but black shoes definitely have their place.

 

 

 

Good Photography (for a change)

I love my friends.  I love that they post things on my facebook page that end up on this blog.  I love them for many other reasons that that, of course, namely because they are just plain awesome.  On Saturday a friend of mine posted a picture on my timeline from a wedding she was at (in fact, I'm pretty sure she was officiating said wedding).  I've spoken of this friend before; she's the friend I worked with at camp.  She is awesome, as are her shoes:

First off, adorable shoes.  Second, notice the photography.  I have no eye for details when it comes to this stuff (as I'm SURE you've noticed), I'm more of a point and click kind of person.  This friend probably pointed and clicked, too, but with a better eye you get better settings and details.  Even when I try it doesn't work out how I might have hoped.  Anyway, my whole point here is this:  adorable shoes, awesome friend.

On a completely separate note:  If you have some time on your hands today, click over to this slideshow of shoes from the Miss America pageant.  Actually, they have a parade just to show off the contestants' shoes.  Which is totally cool and highly weird.  Some of the shoes are somehow representative of their state.  Others, not so much.  Here is MT:

The snarky caption I read said "Montana is synonymous with nothing so much as BeDazzled wedges."  I don't get it, either.  Yay for sparkle, but those shoes are crazy.



Feathers

I don't know if I was stressed or what last night, but I had some crazy dreams.  The only one I really remember is this:  I was looking at the bottom of my feet and there were tiny little black things sticking out of them.  So I grabbed a pair of tweezers and pulled.  Out came several feathers.  Not little feathers, these were 6-8 inches long.  So I pulled out another set, and another.  I have no idea how long I did this, or if I woke up before the process was over.  Weird.  And creepy.  One friend asked me what it meant?  That I needed feather shoes?  I have no idea what that dream meant, but feather shoes sounded like the perfect subject for a post!

 

 

Not too crazy.  Fairly subtle, actually, for feathers.  They look itchy, though.

Wow.  These are crazy.  They look like something out of Dr. Seuss.  Actually, my mom and seester tried to talk me into putting a feathery thing very similar to this on my head for the wedding.  But again, Dr. Seuss.

 

 

Oh dear.  No.  Just  no.  These are awful.  Maybe for some kind of theme?  Maybe for Halloween?  Even then I'm not sure I could stick my foot in them.

 

I  kind of like these.  I don't think I would wear them, but of course I like their color!

 

I also like the color on these.  They remind me of something Katniss might have worn with her Girl on Fire dress in the Hunger Games.

 

So.  Feather Shoes.  I don't think I'm going to rush right out and buy a pair.  They were fun to look at, though.  And there are lots more of them if you want to go check them out and find your favorite design.



Rainbows

I love rainbows.  Pretty much always have.  I love them in the sky, but I also love the color combination on pretty much anything.  I'm not always creative when it comes to color, rainbows have always been my default. I like to paint each toe a different color from the rainbow.  Don't know what colors to use in a craft?  Rainbow!  So the other night when I was so tired and only posted one picture, I went looking for a rainbow of shoes.  Which, of course, led me to rainbow colored shoes.   You can check out more here, but these are some of my favorites:

 

 

Rainbow AND stripes!  And they are Puma, so they probably have good arch support.  Cute and practical; what more could I ask for?

 

Shiny!  Iridescent!  Not at all practical!  Which just makes them more awesome.

 

 I need to start keeping track of shoes that the hubby and/or the senior pastor need to wear.  Their feet would be sooo much more interesting!

 

I miss canvas shoes.  Are canvas shoes still a thing?  Am I too old to wear them?  Do I care?  These are rainbow and look tie-dyed.  More of my favorites.

 

But these are my favorite.  Definite shoegasm.

 

Calendar Highlights

Here are the shoes that caught my eye from the calendar this week:

 

 

I love these.  For some reason they remind me of Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island.  I think they are really summery and fun.

 

I also love these.  They are from 1959, and I think they would be perfect wedding shoes for my imaginary, retro shoe closet.  Heck, they'd even be awesome, vintage wedding shoes in reality.

 

 

I shouldn't like them, but I do.  Love the color, and the shape is really interesting.  I wouldn't necessarily buy them, but I would definitely try them on.  They would have been perfect for my recent green post.

 

Following another long, busy day, this long, busy week is finally over.  Well, sort of.  I have a few things to do tomorrow, but it shouldn't be too bad.



Handbag Thursday

It's been a crazy week. Tuesday I had back-to-back meetings and didn't even think about asking someone for a number for the handbags book.  Yesterday due to a dentist, an EKG, and a bunny I didn't even make it to church at all.  Even though today was also crazy with lots of meetings and appointments, I decided to choose my own number and take the pictures before I left church (I got home at 9:00-ugh).   So, I chose page 400:

 

 

It's a "rare turquoise alligator" handbag from the 50s.  So I put in turquoise alligator into the image search to see what else I could find.  I have to say I was a tiny bit frightened there would be an actual picture of a turquoise alligator.  I really didn't want to contemplate someone killing said rare alligator to make above rare handbag.  Yes, I know I have issues.  I did find some shoes, though.

 

Clearly the hubby and the senior pastor both need a pair of these.

 

I'm not really a fan of alligator shoes, but I kind of like these.  Not the texture so much, but the color and the details.  Stupid slingbacks, though.

Yikes.  Damn.  Eek.  Feel free to add a few of your own.  These are insane.  Since I did matching shoes for the turquoise handbag I thought I'd do a matching handbag for the orange shoes.

 

 

I don't know a lot about purses.  I don't lust over them the way I do shoes (that would be the provence of the BFF), but I think this is really cute.  Hate the shoes, but I would rock this purse!
