Last Day of 2015

Can you believe we're at the end of another year?  The calendar was celebratory with sparkles:

Pink this year.  One of the few themes I've seen from the calendar is sparkly shoes for New Year's Eve.  2014 was a crazy sparkly wedge, and 2013 was a rather odd silver sparkly shoe.  I think this year's offering is my favorite of the 3.

I was excited to see a familiar book pop up on the last day of the book calendar this morning:

And then I read the description.  If you've read the book you'll understand my disappointment in the blurb.  Did this person actually read the book?

Tomorrow will mark the first day in 3 years that I won't have a shoe calendar to look at, how crazy is that?  I don't always include the calendar shoes in the blog, but I do enjoy the moment each morning when I get to turn over the next page and see what craziness or awesomeness awaits.

Oh well.  I did a quick google of New Year's Eve shoes:

I agree with the calendar that New Year's shoes should be sparkly, and apparently Google agrees with us.

I think I'd like these better if they had a different heel.  This one is too chunky and overwhelming.

Ooooh...fancy!  Now these are some celebratory shoes.

I love the colors.  The feathers are hilarious to me, though.  I just can't picture myself in feathered shoes.

Regardless of whether your shoes are flats or heels, feathered or sparkly, I hope you have a very happy New Year!

3rd Blogiversary

Can you believe I've been writing this dorky little blog for 3 years now? Yep, 3 years ago today I wrote the first post and I've been going more or less ever since. In a fun coincidence, this is also my 800th post! That's a lot of blah blah on my part.

Here is how the calendar celebrated the day:

Yay blue! It's like the calendar knew.

So the problem with starting the blog the same year as the the hubby and I got married is that the anniversaries are the same. The 3rd anniversary is leather, and I did a blue leather post in August. So instead of matching the calendar with more blue I will go with the 6th day of Christmas and do red and green leather.

Shoes for the hubby, flats and heels for me, and of course some cute jackets just because.

I'd intended for this post to be longer but I'm at Starbucks using the internet and my kindle is about to die. Also for some reason is a giant pain in the patootie to post on this thing, it's taken me an hour just to do this much and I'm totally annoyed and frustrated. I'm going home to eat chocolate.

Adventy Snowmen

I'm combining 2 posts today in an effort to get some of the jumble out of my head.  On Saturday I watched Frosty the Snowman, Frosty Returns and Frosty's Winter Wonderland while I crocheted, which made me want to do a snowman post, but I didn't because we don't currently have internet at the house, and then Sunday I got sidetracked and did something else.  So I'm starting with that.

Look at these cute, smug snowmen!  These are a little crazy-busy, but I think they're adorable.

Those are some ginormous carrot noses, but otherwise I think these are also adorable.  And they are definitely going in the PB's imaginary closet.

I love these!  I want these!  Notice the similarity to the first pair?  I found this website today that you should definitely visit if you want some snowman shoe adorableness.  Just don't look at the prices, because holy buckets.

Sunday was the 4th Sunday in Advent, and I was going to do a post on the blue shoes the calendar has offered up in December, but again: sidetracked.

These would have looked awesome with my St. Someone's chasuble, I think.

That is a teeny tiny skinny heel and I'm not sure I could walk on it, but I really like the overall shape of this.

Is this an Advent blue?  No.  Do I care?  Not really.  This is from 1955, according to the helpful information up there in the corner.  They aren't my favorite shape and style in the world, but I do love me some turquoise.

Now that I've mixed secular snowmen with religious Advent I shall leave you to ponder whatever it is you were pondering before you came here.

Calendar Birthday Shoes

Yesterday I got to Skype with the fam for the Bean's birthday.  During the course of the conversation the Bean, Double A, Mom and I were killing some time waiting for the hubby to get off the phone (he was working) so we could tell the fam a story that he wanted to be part of.  While we were waiting I showed them the shoes for yesterday from the shoe calendar, and then Double A wanted to see the ones from her birthday as well.  Turns out they both got vintage shoes on their birthdays:

These are from yesterday, so the Bean's birthday, and they're from 1918.  Aren't they cool?

Double A got pink petit point shoes from 1945.

Quick side note:  These pictures aren't from the calendar, and yes, they would have been larger pictures had I gotten them from the calendar, but a. the hubby is sleeping and I don't want to bother him, and b. I'm just too lazy to go get the calendar and scan the pictures in.

I thought I'd go see what else I could find from 1918 (or at least what the internet says are shoes from 1918).

I love the color.  Overall the shoe is a bit clunky, but it's vintage, so I'm not going to hold a little clunkiness against it.

I really want to like these, but they're just slightly off for me.  I can't quite put my finger on why.

These are weird.  And kind of cool.  And they prove that weird-shaped cutouts in otherwise normal shoes are not a new thing.

And now on to more petit point.  Love these.  Even the heels have needlework!

These aren't baby shoes, these are doll shoes.  That was one spoiled doll.

I love the colors of this one, so bright and fun.

I'm so very happy I have nieces.  And that their birthdays coincided with cool shoes on the shoe calendar.

Weird Wedges

The calendar has given me a couple of interesting choices in wedges this past week.

This one isn't bad, I like the color, and if it were just a regular wedge it would be really cute.  But the fringe is too much for me.  Although these are probably hilarious in motion.

Today's shoe is just crazy.  The top part is OK, but clearly that wasn't enough for this shoe designer.  No, there had 2 be another 2 layers.  It looks like the same shoe in both layers, just flipped around and with that strange red ball.  This is insane.  That's all I can think to say.

Obviously I had to go look for other interesting wedges.  I would say these are "interesting" in the Minnesota sense.

I find this one "interesting" in the actual interesting sense.  It's very geometric, and I like the colors.  Not sure I could walk in it, though.

These make me think of bridges.  Or legs.  Why do my feet need legs?

I kind of like these, too.

And this one.  I like the iridescence, but for myself I'd like a little more arch support.  And by more, I mean any.

Holy crap.  These are like the shoes of a serial killer.  A killer of Barbies, but it doesn't make it any less creepy.  Damn, who wears these?

Um...OK.  I guess if you're a big Pokemon fan then this shoe is for you?  And you'll always have your gaming device with you?  So weird.

That's all for tonight's edition of weird wedges with (insert a name that starts with W because otherwise the alliteration is ruined).  I'm going to pray the barbie shoes don't give me nightmares.

Dalmatiany Shoes

Mom, Dad, Double A, and The Bean left yesterday after being here for a week.  It was so good to have them here for a visit, and I enjoyed every minute of it.  I, of course, would have preferred if they could have stayed longer (maybe forever?), but am glad I got to see them for whatever time possible.  We went to the Jelly Belly factory, spent an afternoon in a friend's pool, played Beatles board games, had a picnic with SKD, painted pottery, took pictures of statues (something we also did when they were here 4 years ago), watched movies, played with puppies, and giggled a lot.  I definitely needed the time with them.

While they were here, The Bean bought a Disney CD that we listened to in the car quite a bit.  It had the Cruella De Vil song from 101 Dalmatians.

It was then stuck in my head for most of the week.

The song, coupled with this picture from the 15th, pretty much determined the theme for tonight's post.  Obviously I was being told to do dalmatian shoes.

Wow.  The hubby needs to plan some kind of Halloween outfit around these.

I actually like this.  Not so sure about the thing on the heel, but the rest is cute.

I like these as well, but I prefer the larger spots.

Same here.  Cute, but I think I'd like it better with larger spots.

Yep. Doesn't hurt that it's also a Mary Jane.

Awwww... And look!  Ribbon shoelaces!

I like these, but I don't really want them for my canvas shoe collection.

Adorable.  Love the ribbons.  And yes, I do know these are more uniform polka dots, rather than dalmatian spots.

I would totally wear these if they came in an adult size.  And if it ever rained here.

The hubby and I agree that our house now seems empty and quiet without the fam, and the puppies miss all the extra snuggles they got from the girls. We miss you, cute family!  Come back!

More Birthday

I tried to post yesterday, but our internet was wonky and I couldn't do it.  I wanted to show you the awesome shoes my parents gave me for my birthday:

I opened these first and wore them on my birthday.  I've gotten a little addicted to this orangey coral color lately.

These were second and wow to the brightness!  Actually, these arrived on Thursday, addressed to the hubby (who was still in Mom's address book from Christmas).  She sent me a text to let me know the package was coming, but they arrived before I got the text and could tell the hubby, so he opened the box.  I think his exact words were, "why did we get weird ass shoes in the mail?"  He actually liked them once I put them on yesterday, so he is now forgiven for insulting the shoes.  Are they crazy?  Yep!   But they're also awesome.

I also didn't show you the calendar shoe from my birthday:

It's actually pretty fun.  Usually the weekend ones are some kind of crazy that I'm forced to look at for 2 days, but I was pleasantly surprised for my birthday.

Speaking of birthday (and I'm going to drag this out for as long as possible), SDK took me out for sushi yesterday to celebrate, and then we went and wandered around DSW for awhile.  Neither of us bought anything, but we enjoyed looking and trying on.

Tomorrow, gifts from the BFF!
