Moccasins

My mom (hi, Mom!) just posted this to my Facebook wall:

Crochet baby moccasins!  I honest can't decide if they're adorable or awful.  Maybe they're adorablawful?  I think it might be the fringe that's throwing me off, because I think the rest of the shoe is cute.  You know I had to go searching for more:

This fringe kind of makes me think of Bigfoot.  Awww...baby bigfoot shoes.  I love the colors.

I like this fringe a little better, I think because it's more fringe-like and not as thick as that first picture.  Yes, I think that's what bugged me about the first pairs.

Definitely my least favorite, but I like the simplicity of them.

These are my favorite.

Thanks, Mom, for the inspiration for tonight's post!  I should actually go crochet now, as I'm behind on several projects...

Crochet Snowflakes

I did actually do some crocheting for Christmas this year, but for some reason I haven't gotten around to posting any of it.  Maybe because I forgot to take pictures of the stuff I did while I was in Montana.  Oops.  I did take a picture of what I crocheted for SKD (which she finally got on Saturday when we finally found time to get together):

I started experimenting with making snowflakes like my Auntie Barbara Ann and Grandma Sylvia used to do. The thread and crochet hook are both teeny tiny, and some of them turned out better than others.  I think my favorites in this picture are the 2 smaller blue ones.  I told SKD that one day we would be financially solvent enough that I could actually buy her gifts instead of crocheting her random things every year for Christmas.  She's a very good spot about it.

Obviously today's shoes will have a crochet snowflake theme:

I think this is cute, but the hole cracks me up.  Does a baby booty really need a handle for the kid to yank up their shoes?

These are interesting, but a little too much.  I'm not sure what it is about them, but I just can't quite get on board, even though I appreciate the effort.

Awww, so cute!

Okie dokie.  Back to work.  I'm taking a quick break because my head is pounding (on that note...I actually had a Dr's appointment this morning to talk about the horrible headaches I keep getting, but I canceled it due to a conflict.  Clearly the universe is now punishing me for that decision).

Twinsies

Today I am thankful for good friends and baby spoiling.  I hung out with SKD today, and this morning got to spend time with her while she was babysitting her great niece and nephew who are 2 year old twins and absolutely adorable.  The girl was cracking me up because she kept saying "no no, boy" and "uh oh, boy" to her brother whenever he did something she thought he shouldn't.  This was always accompanied by a disapproving look and a wagging finger. Both kiddos are really sweet and I had a blast with them.  And then I had a fabulous afternoon with their auntie.  Tonight's shoes are inspired by twins:

I love both of these, but can we please get away from the strict gender binaries of pink and blue?

Still pink, but look! Green!

I know they aren't shoes, and we're back to pink and blue, but these are adorable.

Yay, throwing a little purple in the mix, which is the girl twins favorite color.  She says puhple.

I am grateful for a good day.

Lazy

Today is National Lazy Day!  This day should always be on a weekend rather than a fixed date, but oh well, no one asked me.  Last year I wrote that lazy days, for me, involve comfy pants and fuzzy socks or slippers, but living in California August 10 is never cold enough.  This week is cooler, thankfully, as it has only been in the 90s instead of triple digits, so that's nice.  But I talked to Mom (hi, Mom!) today and she said it was only 60 at home.  I'm totally jealous.  In honor of lazy days that are also cold, tonight's theme is crocheted slippers:

Blues and stripes and flowers!  I like the rolled cuffs, too.

I've actually made an afghan with the yarn the flowers are made from.  I wish the slippers were a more fun color, but I like the flowers.

Two-tone blue.  What's not to love?

This looks like Lion's Brand yarn, which is appropriate as today is also World Lion Day.

More blue.  More flowers.  Yay!

Bright, rainbow stripeys!

I hope you had a chance to be lazy today regardless of the temperature where you are.

Here's the Lazy Song by Bruno Mars to help get you in the mindset.

Continued

I have no idea where today went, but it whooshed by at a ridiculous speed.  So now it's late and I'm going to do a quick post before I go to bed.  I recently finished a blankie, shoes, and a hat for a friend of ours who is having a baby in October:

Pedro, as always, was my very helpful model for the hat.  I love this yarn, it's really soft and nice.  The fact that it's several shades of blue doesn't hurt, either.  Since I did little girl shoes last night, I thought I'd do little boy shoes tonight.  Plus, I made some little boy shoes, so there is a double tie-in.

For some reason I had trouble finding shoes I liked tonight.  I really like all of these (especially the first 2), but I was hoping for a little more variety.   Although I do have to say that the caterpillar (at least I think it's a caterpillar?) croc totally cracks me up.  Or maybe it crocks me up.  Ha!  Yes, fine, I'm going to bed.

Bunny Bragging

Apparently I'm ignoring Lent and going straight for Easter this year, but I can't wait any longer to show you these newborn props I made for JK Photography (AKA the Pinterest Friend).  It was my first commissioned crochet project!

Doesn't Pedro make an adorable model?  Not that you can see his cute face.  The ears stand up better if I put the hat like that since his head is tiny.  These were a lot of fun to make.  There are a million and 7 mistakes, but I think they turned out fairly OK.  I can't wait to see a newborn shoot done with them.  I think Pedro needs his own hat in a smaller size.  I might have to work on that this weekend.  In the meantime, here are some pink and blue bunny inspired shoes:

Oh my goodness, it's a bunny wearing pink bunny slippers.  I might have just died from cuteness.

How sweet are these?  Simple, but also adorable.

I think these are really cute and really hilarious.  They're also 381 freakin' dollars, which makes them absolutely ridiculous.

You knew there would be a pair like this, didn't you?  I can never resist!

I wish the faces were a little different on these, and then I think they would be adorable.

Blue and turquoise bunny shoes!  Yes, please.

See comment above.

Again with the face.  These are cuter, but also a little scary?  And those ankle straps seem way too big for the shoes.  And I think those are doll shoes.

Ah, bunny shoes.  I might need some for Easter.  I should have thought of that while I was still in the parish.

Memory Lane: 2013 (be very afraid). 2014. 2015.

3 Things:
  1. Being asked to make fun crochet projects.
  2. Doing my best (and sort of succeeding) not to freak out about the lack of perfection in that project.
  3. Getting several things accomplished today that took the amount of time they should have instead of 8 million times longer!

Bookshelves

Today is Clean Out Your Bookcase Day.  I am not OK with this.  That's maybe a little more melodramatic than it needs to be as I do occasionally go through my bookshelves and donate books, especially if I'm moving.  I just don't want a day dedicated this purpose.  It makes me sad, not celebratory.  But it does give me an excuse to post more book shoes!

I want all of these!  The last 4 are from Zazzle which continues to impress me with the amount of themed tennis shoes they have.  I have no plans to clean off a bookshelf today, but I would gladly fill up a bookshelf with some of these shoes!

Today is also Love Your Pet Day, but I do that every day, so I'm just giving you one picture for each kind of pet we have.

Crochet puppy shoes!  I should make some.

And I love these dragon baby shoes.  So fierce.  The PB definitely needs a pair.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014.

3 Things:
  1. I DO love my pets!  The puppies are so loving and snuggly, and the dragons are rather fascinating, and surprisingly sweet.
  2. I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time since September today.  I found a thing on Facebook with a woman at a new place offering free services for the month of February.  I made an appointment for eyebrows and lip, but she offered to do my whole face (including my nostrils, which doesn't hurt like you'd think, but man it's WEIRD).  Now I have two eyebrows instead of just one and I no longer look like a muppet!
  3. The hubby and I are having a lazy day after a long (but good) week of training and getting to know the new employees.

Comfort

I know I've said it before, but it totally cracks me up how many holidays there are on any given day.  For instance, today is not only Dimpled Chad Day and Free Flower Basket Day, but it's also National Spaghetti Day.  I mean, who comes up with this stuff?  I do like spaghetti, though, and my mama makes some yummy spaghetti sauce, which I try to duplicate when I make it.  And OF COURSE there are spaghetti shoes.

Not only do I wonder who comes up with the holidays, but I wonder who comes up with shoes like this?  And why?  Does anyone buy them and wear them?  Again, why?

Spaghetti could arguably be called comfort food. I mean sauce and carbs are comforting sometimes, right?  So even though I did slippers yesterday I'm doing them again today because of the comfort factor.  Is that a random enough segue for you?  And maybe it's because I'm still craving sleep.  I did not sleep well last night and had really weird dreams that I only vaguely remember.  So I'm going with slippers again.  Blue because I like blue, dammit.

Blue plaid slippers!  They don't look as comfy as some of the others, but I like the plaid, and the hard soles.

Fuzzy!  And hard soles again.

I don't see myself in dolphin slippers, but these look cozy.

SO FLUFFY!

I had to add some crocheted ones of course.

Heehee.  Tardis slippers.  The hubby could wear these while he watches Dr. Who.

I'm hoping for better sleep tonight, slippers or not.
