Sniffle

Today the hubby feels worse.  Today I feel worse.  It's annoying.  These shoes are adorable and make me feel marginally better:

These are adorable and make me want to go drink tea and read Beatrix Potter.  The end.

Happy Birthday, DJ!

I can't believe my oldest niece is 17 today.  Where does the time go?  I was still in college when she was born, only 5 years older than she is now.  That is SO weird.  She's a young woman, and she's turning out beautifully.  We'd better look at some shoes before I get all sniffly.  DJ isn't much of a girly girl, although she will dress up when the occasion calls for it (holy buckets, she was gorgeous at our wedding).  She's more comfortable in jeans and t-shirts.  She also likes camo, which is so far out of my own sense of fashion I almost can't comprehend it.  But hey, she has her own style, and I respect that.  So here are some camo shoes for you, DJ:

As we all know, I do love me an ankle strap.  These are actually cute even though I would never go for the camo.

Actually these might be cute, also?  Maybe if they didn't have quite such a high heel DJ would be more apt to wear them.  Or maybe I just have to teach her to walk in heels.

Oh hell no.  These are are a world of no.  Absolutely not.  Camo or not, the nieces do not need to wear thigh high boots.  Although, DJ is just under 5 feet, so these would probably come up to her hips, which kind of makes me giggle.  High heeled hip waders.  Fashionable yet dangerous.

Nope.  Not in blue can I get on board with the camo.  And ankle strap or no, these are way too clunky for my taste.  Oh well.  The girl likes camo, and I love the girl, so I think we're OK.

Rude

The seester and I were recently having a conversation about Strawberry Shortcake recently.  The cartoon, not the dessert, although yum to that.  What?  It's a perfectly normal conversation for 2 grown women to have.  Shut up.  Anyway, it got me thinking about shoes, so I went to look.

This is pretty much what I expected to find:  cute, girly, lots of pink.

I like these because the green stripes break up the pink a little.  There were lots more like these out there.  Which is fine.  But what about the other characters?

For instance, my favorite character as a kid was Orange Blossom.  In fact, I had this very toy.  Her butterfly's  name is Marmalade.  I haven't seen Orange Blossom in a long time, but Marmalade surfaces at Mom's house every once in awhile.

This is Orange Blossom in her modern incarnation.  I kind of like old school better since it's nostalgic, but this girl could rock a pair of shoes, don't you think?  And there are lots of other characters.  Why don't they get their own shoes?  Why does Strawberry Shortcake get all of the attention?  Where are my damn Orange Blossom shoes???  Ahem.  I'm better now.  Maybe they are out there and I just couldn't find them, but I looked in as many ways and places as I could think of.  Sigh.

Poor Orange Blossom.  I will dedicate these cool orange shoes in her honor.

PS--on a completely unrelated note, I just told Tallulah the puppy that she needed to rethink her life choices as she was attempting to lick something disgusting off the garbage can. That's proper dog training etiquette, right?

Yes!

It's been a busy couple of days around here, hence the lack of posting.  Turns out that Evette the elephant was, in fact, bronchitis.  And I have a sinus infection (although a rather mild one as those things go, so I'll take the small victory).  The coughing is so very not enjoyable, though.  It was productive for awhile and now it just hurts.  Yesterday I had a dental appointment that left half of my face numb for the rest of the day.  Good times.  BUT, the really really REALLY exciting news in our household is that the hubby got a new job!!!  This is so very exciting.  He is ecstatic and so ready to get started.  I am ecstatic for him.  In celebration, let's look at some new shoes for him to wear to his new job:

I'm assuming these are purple?  The lighting could be weird.  What I find weird is the yellow accent around the sole.  What's up with that?

A little more subtle, but still more color than the hubby would wear. He's a black, brown, and burgundy man when it comes to shoes.  I happen to really like the green.

No.  I love blue, and normally would be on board, but these are my high school rival's colors, and I just can't do it.  Another accent color and I'll allow it.

Now this pattern would be really fun in a pump or a ballet flat.  Not so sure about it for a man's dress shoe, though.

Oooh, fun!  The hubby actually has shirts in all  of these colors!  He definitely needs these.  These were listed as grooms shoes.  They don't have the right blue from our wedding, but it might have fun to have the hubby wearing the same color shoes as I was.  Again, he would NEVER agree  to it.  Oh well, boring footwear or not, we are off on a new adventure!

There's an Elephant on My Chest

I have a chest cold.  This is actually sort of funny (not ha ha) in that I always always get sick right after I do a camp at church.  Arts Camp started today so apparently my body thought it shouldn't deprive me of at least part of my routine and gave me the cold a week early.  I started coughing on Friday, but actually felt physically fine until today.  Now my throat hurts, I'm hacking up stuff, I have a fever, blah blah blah.  On the plus side, at this point in time I do NOT have a sinus infection!  This is a small victory for those of  you who know of my relationship with the damn sinus infection.  Anyway, since there is a small elephant who has decided to take up residence on my chest, tonight's shoes are all about elephants.

I can't tell if these are kid shoes or not, but I would wear them if they came in my size, because they make me smile.

The detail on these is pretty amazing, but I have to say they aren't to my taste.  I think I like my elephantine footwear to be whimsical rather than realistic.

These are so cute.  A little elephant conversation!

Again, realistic instead of whimsical, but come on!  They are shoes with an elephant butt on them!  I'm dorky and immature enough to admit that I find that amusing.

Baby shoes.  Of course.

More baby shoes.  There were actually pictures of these in a varieties of colors, but I was already carried away and didn't want to overload you even more.

I was going to be done after the last pair, but then I found this.  This is insane.  More of the suggestion of an elephant, so less insane than if it were a full-blown elephant shaped shoe, but still pretty whacky.

Again, I was going to be done.  I don't even like elephants this much.  I mean, I have nothing against, them, I find them very interesting, I love the elephant march in The Jungle Book, elephants aren't my go-to favorite animal.  But dang if there aren't a TON of shoes out there.  I got sucked in and couldn't stop. I mean, I had to include the heels, right?

And these were just a sweet little bonus.

Good night all.  I'm taking my elephant (I've decided to name her Evette) and we're going to bed.

Sun, Sand, and Puppies

The hubby and I took the puppies for an outing today to Folsom Lake Park.  We've been working on leash training them, and have taken them for short walks in the neighborhood, but this would be their first big excursion.  It didn't exactly start out so well as they both threw up in the car and Chalupah pooped all over my back seat.  Nothing like poo and vomit remnants baking in the car during a sunny afternoon to make for a pleasant driving experience!  After the initial hiccup, though, it was a really great afternoon.  The puppies loved being out, and everyone loved them.  We didn't walk by or near a single person who didn't stop to exclaim about how cute they are and how tiny they are and oh aren't they so sweet?  And of course they were loving it.  Every person was a friend who obviously wanted to be licked and climbed and surely must want to give them a treat, right?  Total attention whores.  They were totally cracking me up, and we had a very nice outing and walk, soaking up sunshine even while lamenting how low Folsom Lake is.  Holy buckets.  Just walking from the sidewalk to the lake took forever because it's so low.  Very sad.  But, not an overall sad day, so moving on.  Inspired by the lovely sunshine and 70 degree temps (again, very very sorry to people who woke up to snow AGAIN this morning), tonight's search was for sunshine shoes.  (this, of course, meant lots of references to Kasey and the Sunshine Band's Boogie Shoes, which is now running through my head.

These are paper, but they are so bright and summery.  They definitely say sunshine to me.  I wish they were real.

These are rather clunky, but I love the brightness of the pink and yellow together.

I'm pretty sure I can't pull these off, but they are really fun.  Can't tell if that's supposed to be a flower or a propeller, but I'm leaning toward propeller just because it's quirkier and funnier.

Oh my goodness.  So cute.  Flower and Laughter totally need these.  They would be even more adorable than they already are.

These somehow remind me of both the beach and the sun (actually sunrise or sunset).  And now I have a mash-up of Boogie Shoes and Walking on Sunshine stuck in my head.  Maybe you do, too.  If so, you're welcome.

Awesomeness

I had a super productive day today.  I read, crocheted, cleaned, did laundry (even put laundry away, which is usually where I fail at that task), baked (tried 2 different recipes to make a gluten-free, sugar-free cheesecake), took the puppies for a walk, gave them a bath, and trimmed their toenails.  Now, to many of you, this probably sounds like a normal day.  But for me and my lack of motivation, I'm feeling pretty darn proud of myself.  Smug, if you will.  Rather awesome, as a matter of fact.  Am I annoying in my smugness, yet?  To go along with my mood, I did a search for awesome shoes:

I'd definitely say these were awesome.  Love the bright, fun colors and all of the crazy drawings.

I'm not sure I'd classify these as awesome, per se, but they are kind of fun.  Probably should have been a part of yesterday's post.

These might not look awesome.  Until I tell you that they are covered in teeny-tiny romance novel covers.  I find this hilariously awesome.  I would wear these.

Well, these just speak for themselves, don't they?  I think DJ was into Bobby Jack stuff for awhile.

PS--The hubby came home and is currently eating the cheesecake.  He says it is awesome!

Yum

I think I'm hungry tonight.  Either that, or the fact that I haven't had chocolate for 2 weeks is getting to me. Because tonight it's all about dessert-y kind of shoes.

It started when I found these adorable s'mores slippers.  Look at how happy they are!  Then, I started looking for other kinds of edible shoes.  (I realize these aren't edible, they are just what prompted my search.  That, and apparently hunger)

Sprinkle shoes!  I love these because they look like all of the sparkly shoes I love.  They'd be sticky if  it rained, though.  Unless they are shellacked or something.

Cookie shoes!  Will someone please find me a shoe shaped cookie cutter?  Or just make me some, since mine would never be this cute?

I'm not terribly fond of marzipan, but the details on these are quite fun.

And, of course, I had to include chocolate, even though I've done it before.  These are probably too pretty to eat, right?  It's like the chocolate bunny, though.  Instead of nibbling on the ears, I'd start nibbling on a heel, then maybe a toe, and before you know it...shoes in my tummy.

I have to go to sleep now so I can stop thinking about yummy goodness.

San Francisco

The hubby had an appointment in San Francisco, and wanted me to come along, so we had a little road trip.  It being San Francisco, and there being a Starbucks on every corner, there just so happened to be one in the same building as his appointment.  So I sat, crocheted, people watched, and had a lovely afternoon.  After his appointment we walked to find something to eat and I had the BEST veggie burger I have ever had.  Oh my goodness, I snarfed that sucker and then was sad I didn't have a 2nd one.  Yum!  In looking for some San Francisco shoes tonight I came across this really cool series by Converse:

How fun are these?  I like all of them, and Double A really really needs a pair of the Golden Gate Bridge ones.  Have I ever told you that that kid is obsessed with the GGB?  If she could, I think she might marry it.   Which would be awkward.  Aaaaaand clearly it's time for me to go to bed.

Olaf the Snowman

Frozen came out on DVD today and The Bean has been sooooo excited.  Apparently she informed the fam that they were watching it at 5:00 tonight.  It's nights like this I wish I had a teleporter so I could go home for a few hours and then come back.  Since I can't, I'll just dedicate this post to The Bean, and go with some more Frozen shoes.  This time we're going with Olaf because the PF recently sent me this:

These are adorable and hilarious.  My birthday is coming up, who wants to make me some?

The rest I will just give you without comment because they're all Olaf, they're all cute, and I think each of the nieces should get a pair.

Let me finish by saying that going home and watching Frozen would have been way more fun than going to the gym and lifting weights tonight.  Can someone just dip me in a nice vat of biofreeze please?

St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I didn't get to go home and eat corned beef and cabbage with my family, which makes me sad, but I celebrated in little ways.  I wore green.

I drank coffee out of my shamrock cup (which I have been and will continue to do throughout the month of March).

I put on my sparkly shamrock socks long enough to take a picture.  It was warm again today, so I opted for capris.  Didn't think the hubby would let me out of the house if I wore the socks with them.

I drooled over the shoes Kate Middleton wore today and realized that I need a pair of shoes in a really good green.

Even the calendar got  into the spirit with green snakeskin shoes.  Which made me giggle.  They don't normally go with much of a holiday theme, but snakeskin on St. Patrick's Day?  Ha!  Get it?

The Pinterest friend also sent me a few pictures to celebrate the day:

Love these.  But then, I almost always love baby shoes.

These are really pretty.  I love the batik fabric with its gold swirls.

Sparkly green shamrock shoes.  What could be more appropriate?  I thought I had featured these last year, but I guess not.

I'm only the teeniest smidge Irish, actually more Scottish, but I still think it's fun to go with a theme.  Unless it's green beer, and then I'm out.
