Tick Tock

The holidays website tells me that today is Biological Clock Day.  Huh.  Like a I need a specific day in April to remind me that my biological clock is ticking?  Nope.  The darn thing has been ticking VERY loudly for a VERY long time.  Motherhood is the one thing I have felt the most consistently called to do and the one thing I may never achieve.  I just turned 41, which in the baby world is old.  It's not impossible, but the risk factors are high and the chances of getting pregnant get lower all the time.  I would be open to adoption, but I'm not sure that will happen, either.  I try to be maternal in other ways like being a good auntie.  Unfortunately I think I'm more of an office mother sometimes than an office manager, which is probably weird for all of our employees.  I have classmates who are grandparents.  There are children I used to babysit who now have children of their own.  So I'm feeling a little sad tonight and will now pour salt in the wound by showing you baby shoes.  LOTS of baby shoes.  Some I've had in my ideas folder for awhile (I collect things I find as I'm looking for other things/themes) and some I found today when I went looking.  Believe me, I could have done way more.

So cute.  Sad that the Potential Baby may only ever be that, but it is what it is.

PS--before you (very kindly) tell me that I'm not old and you are older, I will remind you that most of you are already parents and/or grandparents, and telling me I'm not old isn't really the point in this case.  It's also not true in medical terms.  But thank you anyway.  I also understand that it has been my own choices that have led me to where I am today, and while I don't regret most of them, I do regret a few, and I do think I might change some things if I had the chance, but since I can't, I can admit that it's my own fault that I'm childless and not following that call.

Bears

I posted the other day about the baby blankie I made recently, and today I'll talk about the other half of the gift.  Mama of the baby and big brother posted this picture on Facebook:

Have you ever read Bear in Underwear?  You totally should!  Especially if you are 3, because underwear is hilarious to 3 year olds.  This is a whole series of books, and the nephew thought they were awesome when he was 3 and 4.  When I send a baby present and the baby has an older sibling I often try to send something for the sibling as well, although I don't always manage it.  So big brother got a new book about a bear and his tighty whiteys.

Today's shoes will be about bears because (trust me on this) you really don't want to do an image search with the word underwear in it.

Baby shoes with bears and blue.  You know I'm going to like that!

These are adorable.  Add ribbon laces to the baby bear shoes and I like them even more!

And then we have these.  You know I love a theme shoe, but I can't see myself wearing these.  Well, maybe if I was going to an event of some sort involving children.  Maybe if we were reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears?  But in general, I have to say no these.

These are a little cuter, but same thing applies.

I actually find this really cute.  I'd still have to have a specific event for it, but it's kind of adorable.

Enjoy your Sunday!  Go read some Bear in Underwear if you need something entertaining to do.  Or watch football.  You know, whatever makes you happiest.

Just Another Awesome Kiddo

I am blessed in my life to know some truly amazing kids (a term that can apply to any number of people, aged 0-30).  My nieces and nephew, of course, are amazing, awesome, astounding, and another a word that won't come to me at the moment.  Tonight's post, though, is about a kiddo from St. Someone's.  I've written about her before, and I love this kid.  I should probably give her a nickname instead of always calling her "this kid." I'm going to go with Sunshine, since she fills me life with brightness, and she's got great, sunny blonde hair.  Anyway, her grandma (another amazing person) was one of the people at my birthday party on Saturday, and Sunshine sent me a present via Grandma:

Sunshine, with the help of Little Sister Sunshine, wrote me a book!  And a darn good book it is.  What's it about, you ask?  Well, all you have to do is read the summary she wrote on the back:

Yep.  She wrote a summary.  And a really cute book.  It had plot, a problem to be solved, resolution, and a whole lot of adorable animal characters who baked a lot and got really tired.

And that's not all.   She even made her own tissue paper to go in the gift bag.

See?  It says, "I am soft and cushiony."  I love that kid.  And her baby sister.  And their grandma.  It's a love fest, and all three of them helped to make my birthday that much more special.  In honor of the bear and chipmunk characters in the book, here are some bear and chipmunk shoes:

Baby bear shoes!  Love them.  Would love to make a pair of the crocheted ones.

This last pair is almost over the top cute.  Dang.  I love the water shoes with the tiny chipmunk, though.  Very sweet.

The book was definitely one of my favorite presents and made me super happy.

Bears

This morning when I woke up the headache was better!  Unfortunately the hubby woke up to discover his back was out (what does that guy DO in his sleep?).  As the day went on his back got better (with the help of ibuprofen, heating pad and massages) and my head got worse.  It was like I siphoned my head pain into his back and he siphoned it right back to me.  Thankfully it's not as bad as yesterday, but it's still there and it still sucks.

Oh well.  Happier thoughts.  I think they Pinterest Friend has bears on the mind.  Is it because she moved to Idaho and the winter is getting to her?   Bears are hibernating and she wants to be too?  Bears are cute when they aren't trying to eat you?  Heehee.  Let's check out the bear shoes.

Baby bear slippers!  I think the puppies need some.

Awww...the Care Bears.  I had a blue one.  No idea what it was called.  Maybe it had a moon and stars on its tummy?  Maybe I'm remembering someone else's?  Yeah, no idea.  I do know I watched the cartoon and I had a couple of Care Bear books.  These shoes are adorable.

Fiercer, bigger bear slippers! I think the puppies need the little ones and Pedro needs these!  Because a bear wearing bear slippers is funny.  And because Pedro would like some claws.

I love Winnie the Pooh, and I didn't find this pair in my previous post.  I love all the characters, but I resonate with Piglet.  I may have been Piglet in a former life.

I have a headache and a lap full of puppies, so it kind of washes out, right?  A friend mentioned on Facebook today that she too has had a headache last few days, as have a bunch of people at the school she works at.  One of my pastor friends needs to come and exorcise all of these headaches from hell!
