Party Shoes

Mondays are my day off, which means I'm not at church today.  My shoe calendar lives in my church office, so no picture of today's selection.

Instead, here are some pictures from my last day at my last call.  For my going away party everyone was asked to wear their favorite pair of shoes.  The tables were even decorated with vintage shoes from some of the older women's collections.  It was awesome.  A friend of mine then went around and took pictures of people's feet.  Here are some of the pictures:

You probably already figured out from the cross tattoo that mine are the red shoes with the double straps.  These were my favorite shoes at the time.  I bought them for my ordination.  I still like them very much, but I tend to be fickle and have moved on to new favorites.

Cute flats!  Something I'm not always good at.

More cute flats.  The photographer is wearing the pink shoes to the right of mine.

I love this one!  The red are a friend of mine, the boots are her son.  I love that he wore corduroy pants and green rain boots with faces on them to my party!

Epiphany

I took a picture of today's calendar (which also happens to be yesterday's...turns out I don't get 365 days of shoes because Saturday and Sunday are on one page.  Rude!), but it does not appear on my phone, so I must not have actually captured it.  I'll say my phone is possessed, but it was really probably something I did.

Good news is that I have other pictures for you.  Today at church we celebrated Epiphany.  The 12 days of Christmas last from Christmas day until January 5th, then the 6th is the day when the church celebrates the visit of the Magi to the baby (or toddler) Jesus.  We celebrated at church with a brunch between services, king's cake, and the blessing of chalk for people to do house blessings.  I celebrated by taking pictures of adorable shoes.

These are my feet and the feet of 3 of the awesome kiddos at church.  Love the sparkles, love the fuschia with flowers, and love the 22 different colored stripes (I love stripes as much as I love shoes!  I also just made up that number).

These are adorable AND they lit up!  And considering that light is one of the themes of Epiphany, they seem like the perfect  choice.

Hawaii in January

First off, I'm happy to say that yesterday got better.  Not completely resolved, but definitely better.  Now, on to shoes.

Today the hubby and I went to a friend's 50th birthday party.  The theme was Hawaii 5-0 so we were encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts.  Neither of us owns one.  But wait!  I own a dress!  (that we bought in Mexico, but shhh...)

Hmmm...guess who didn't iron her not a shirt Hawaiian dress?  I also didn't have shoes that went, so these were as close as I could get.  But I painted my toes to match!  Speaking of shoes.  Here are my feet with the feet of our lovely hostess.  She how her flip flops have palm trees on them?  She's so cool.

The party was fun with some fun new peeps to hang out with.  Ohhhh, and I got to hold the 5 month old grandson of the Birthday Boy.  He drooled and I bounced and we talked about life.  Bliss.

Some Days Are Like That

I actually like the idea of these.  I like the shape, just not the colors or fabric necessarily.

Today is a rough day.  Yesterday I decided to try to write every day and today I have no inspiration to write about shoes, or much of anything.  Things feel like they are falling apart.  They aren't.  They will get better.  But I am never good at being in the middle of the ick.  I just want to fast forward to the point where things actually get better.  Sometimes I buy shoes when I feel like this.  It sort of helps.  I know it's not going to make anything better or solve anything, but sometimes it's nice to indulge in a little retail therapy to take my mind off of things for a brief time.  No shopping today, though.  Thank goodness for good friends and chocolate.  Or good friends WITH chocolate.  Feel free to come visit and bring that chocolate...

80's, Therapy, and Stripes

This pair says it's from the 80's, which actually explains a lot.  The picture doesn't do full justice to the color and pattern, which is listed as a "feather-print textile."  Did it really need the rolled-up flower detail?

So...I have decided to try and post every day.  I have a shoe-a-day calendar, so at least I won't lack for material (at least until 2014).  I have no idea if anyone cares to read a post a day from me, but I am going to try it as a discipline.  And I know, I said I was going to try not to obsess about it this.  I will try to have a non-obsessive discipline.  Comments like that are why I'm in therapy, aren't they?

Anyhoodle, here is a picture of my own feet.  I don't always wear heels, contrary to what my congregation thinks.  Usually during the week I wear very sensible shoes.  Even when I'm wearing heels I almost always have a back up pair of flats for running around in.  This was the case yesterday.  I was wearing black boots and a dress, but I got tired of the boots and switched to the shoes.  In addition to loving shoes, I also love fun socks, and these were a Christmas gift.  A fashion plate I definitely was not in my red dress, striped socks, and sensible shoes, but my feet were happy, and it was only the staff who had to endure my (ahem) whimsical fashion sense!

Yikes

I hadn't planned on posting today, but then the calendar revealed THIS.  How could I not share it with you all?  These look like someone's horrible, gilt furniture mated with their furry pet inside the shoe closet.  I would totally take these to a white elephant party.

Day 1

Happy 2013!  One of my inspirations for this blog was a Christmas gift.  Our worship and music director at church gave me a shoe-a-day calendar, and I can't wait to see what shoes each new day brings.  I know there will be some fabulous and some completely horrible.  I will try to share a little of both.  In fact, today's is a little of both.  Sparkly!  Bright!  But a little too much, even for me.  Plus, it just makes me bitter as I can't wear sling-backs.  Sigh.  I like to be surprised, so I'm not looking ahead, except at birthdays.  The nieces and I were on Skype the other day and I had to show them all their birthdays, so I've seen a few.  (My birthday is vintage and awesome!)  I would wish you all a Happy Shoe Year, but that would just be silly and over the top...
