Sadly Exhausted

The family went home today.  Sigh.  I am very sad.  I am also exhausted, but that isn't their fault, just my current state of life right now.  I loved every minute of their being here.  Yesterday we took the ferry to San Francisco to see the hubby.  Laughter called the ferry the "big boat" and corrected everyone who called it something different.  Both nieces liked riding on it, and my sister had the best time checking out all of the views and the boats and the birds, etc.  It was fun to see everything through their eyes.  Here are our feet on the big boat:

Man, was I blue yesterday, or what?  But then, what else is new?  Flower is in the awesome green and blue dress with the sparkly sandals, and Laughter is in the flowered pants (paaaaants) with the white and metallic sandals.  The seester is also in blue (because she's cool like me), with the Tevas, because she is cool AND practical.  The brother-in-law does not appear in this picture, but he was wearing brown boots.

So, we got off the big boat at Pier 39 and were total tourists.  Everyone loved the sea lions; Flower pronounced them "cool but stinky."  We ate at Bubba Gump's and had dessert at a cupcake place:

We didn't get a before picture of the sampler the girls chose, but Laughter took this picture of the aftermath.  That's my red velvet cupcake wrapper in the front (the frosting was fantastic) and a chocolate-peanut butter behind it.  You can see Flower still working on hers.  She liked it, but said it tasted like wine.  I have no idea how she knows what wine tastes like.  Basically we had a fantastic time, but no one was terribly impressed with the cold wind off the bay.

So now I am sad and the hubby is sad and the puppies are sad.  Once we convinced the girls to settle down, relax, and let the puppies come to them, things went better.  They still fed them more treats than any dogs should have in a single day, but everyone was friends.  In fact, when I let the dogs in this afternoon, they ran all over the house looking for the girls.

I know she doesn't have a whole head (I try not to show the nieces since this is a public blog), but hopefully you can still see how adorable Flower was sleeping with the puppies.

I have to go be sad now.  Please return to whatever you were doing as I go mope.

First Time

Poor Laughter is still sick. She did ok this morning, but as the day progressed her fever kept getting higher. Her mom and dad are worried about strep, so we might be taking her to the Urgent Care tomorrow. Poor baby. They leave on Saturday, so I hope she feels better before she has to fly. Needless to say, we didn't do much today, but one fun thing we did was to have Auntie-Niece pedicures. It was the first time for both girls and they loved it. They were both really good, too, sitting still and being patient. Especially Flower, who had to wait for her person to finish a manicure before she could do Flower's toes. I think I was almost 30 before I got my first pedicure, so it was a lot of fun to watch the girls' reactions to everything, and to watch other people also watching their reactions and saying how cute and sweet they both are.

Look at how pretty our toes turned out!

After pedicures we had lunch and I got to introduce my Montana family to Chipotle. Yum!

This evening Laughter stayed home with her daddy to rest and snuggle (and play with the puppies without having to share with sister) while the seester, Flower and I went shopping. We each found a maxi dress we really liked and got them, and got a pair of adorable pants for Laughter. Even though it's hot here, all she has wanted to wear is paaaants. Shopping with Flower is way fun. It's like having a personal shopper, because she kept finding really cute stuff for us to try on. We all tried out clothes on together and had a totally fun and girly time critiquing each outfit.

So, a lazy but lovely day again. If poor Laughter wasn't sick, it would have been just about perfect. Too bad they have to leave soon and I won't get to play with them anymore.

Yay!

My seester, brother-in-law and nieces got here last night! It is so awesome to see them all (you should see the hubby and the brother-in-law-law, they have a whole bromance going on). We didn't get home from the airport last night until after, and by the time everyone settled down it was about 1 am, which is 2 for the Montanans. So today was a lovely, lazy day. Flower and Laughter spent the whole time trying to pack the puppies around, and the puppies spent most of the day running and hiding from the nieces. Once we convinced them the puppies would come snuggle if they just sat down and were still for more than 30 seconds things got better. In fact both puppies are currently sleeping with Flower. Poor Laughter has a fever, though, so she's snuggling her mama instead of puppies.

Holy wow am I tired. I love every minute with the family, but from the moment their eyes popped open this morning it has been, "Auntie Sarah, watch this. Auntie Sarah, come here. Can I hold a dog? Can I give the puppies treats? Can I hold a lizard? Can we watch a movie? Why can't I play with your nipples?" Yeah, that last one was Laughter. She has a fascination with breasts right now. Apparently Flower has a fascination with nakedness in general as we talked about it quite a bit. She asked me if Uncle has seen me naked. I said yes, because we are married.

Like I said,I have loved every minute of today, but it's made me think maybe I shouldn't have children. Not because I don't want them, I do, and always have. But today made me wonder if I am too old and too tired and too mentally unhealthy for it. But I will admit that the snuggles and giggles are nice.

Both girls got new sandals for the trip. I will try to get pictures, but for now let's look at shoes that don't belong to the nieces.

I also shouldn't have children because I would buy them you many damn pairs of shoes...

PS - I think I'm getting a sinus infection.

Thoughts on a Monday Night

It sucks to slice up fruit with a cardboard cut on my finger.

For that matter, it sucked when I got the cardboard cut on my finger.

Tonight I called the hubby a man baby and then started singing man baby to the tune of Matchmaker from Fiddle on the Roof. Probably yet another reason why I need therapy.

When the hubby says, "bad dog" to the puppies they run outside because they know they are in trouble. When I say it they run to me thinking it's clearly treat time.

Now time for some Monday shoes.

Those are definitely weird. I don't think they would help me get Monday started so much as they would make me want to go back to bed and hide from them.

Hee hee. This one just makes me giggle.

So. These last three are from something called Cheap Monday Shoes. I'm not sure if the shoes are cheap or Monday is somehow cheap, but the shoes are very odd.

These wouldn't be horrible if the strap wasn't Velcro. WHY is the strap Velcro?

Also Velcro. Kitten heels and Tevas had a baby. You really should click on the link above and go check out more shoes. Some are kind of cute. Many are not.

One final thought: between bearded dragon poop and puppy toots today was a very stinky day. You're welcome for that final thought.

Grumpapotamus

That has been me the last 2 days, grumpy grumpy grumpy.  For no real reason that I can articulate.  I've just been a snarly, moody mess.  Maybe hormones.  Maybe not.  All I know is blah.  And that I want to kick the hubby.  (just because he's around.  but I haven't.  but he is the one that has had to put up with the grumps)  I'm pretty sure I need this shirt:

This way, on mornings I wake up feeling snarky, I could put it on and give everyone fair warning.  Maybe I should get more than one, in multiple colors.

In an effort to cheer myself up, and sort of going with the theme, tonight's selection of shoes features hippos.

Blue baby hippo shoes!  I'm cheerier already.

These are hilarious.  Maybe I need to start a collection of whimsical Birkenstocks with animals on them.  People already think I'm weird, so why not?

These look rather snuggly and comfy .

These are adorable and I want a pair.

These might actually be cows...

Must.  Find.  Pattern.

I almost missed these, and I'm so glad I didn't because these might be my favorites.

That helped.  The grumpapotamus has been cheered up by the hippopotamus.  Lots more than one, so technically hippopotami.  Hopefully the cheer will carry over into tomorrow.s

Their Logic is Not Like Our Earth Logic

Thankfully the hubby's car has been fixed, but not without some crazy drama.  It turns out that the battery is in the trunk.  OK, good to know.  So the hubby took the battery out and took it to be tested.  Sure enough, it was bad, so he bought a new one.  He came home and tried to open the lock.  No luck.  Of course, without a battery, the power button and key fob didn't work, but we couldn't even open it WITH THE KEY!  How does this make sense?  So off I went to Google where I found the solution of opening the hood (thankfully we could still pop that), opening a specific compartment, hooking the positive jumper cable to the bolt in the compartment and the battery, and grounding the negative cable on the frame of the car.  Thank goodness it worked, and thank goodness the new battery fixed the problem.  Seriously, though, how is this sensible?  So...what, you're just not supposed to close the trunk once you take the battery out?  Ever?  One guy online said he had to order his battery.  Apparently he was supposed to leave his trunk open for several days?  I'm glad the problem is fixed, but it was all a little ridiculous.  Speaking of ridiculous, check out these shoes:

Loafers had a baby with a diorama?

Prom corsages had a baby with stripper shoes?

I don't even know what was having babies here.

Clown shoes had a baby with Duplos and day-glow patent leather?

Go home, shoes.  You're drunk.

Stupid Cars

My day was going along perfectly fine, and I'd actually managed to accomplish quite a bit,  including cleaning both bathrooms (I don't know why I don't do this more often, but it's very high on my procrastination list).  I was on my way to pick up some groceries around 7:30 when I got a call from the hubby.  He was on his way to see some friends of his after work.   He stopped to get gas and when he got back in the car it wouldn't start.  3 very nice people stopped to help him, and one jumped his car, but no go.  He hoped maybe it was his key and asked me to drive up and see if mine would work.  Half an hour later and nope.  Not the key.  So we had to call a tow truck.  And we had to fight with our insurance because they were being really annoyingly unhelpful about the roadside assistance, which we pay for and which they should just shut up about and help us.  Oh well.  Long story short, we just got home.  3 hours later and I still didn't get the groceries.  At least it gave me a topic for tonight's post, though.

Of course we would have to include Tow Mater from Cars.  Sadly our tow truck did not have a face.

And the required baby shoes.  What is that truck towing, exactly?

I have no idea what is going on here.  Is it a parade float?  Whatever it is, it's weird and unattractive.

The tow trucks here are tiny but still cute.  These were actually listed as girls' shoes, which I think is awesome.

On the plus side, our tow truck driver was actually kind of cute.  (And from Idaho!)  Maybe this is wrong of me, but I was expecting what we used to have in my hometown:  Sweaty, smelly, and lots of butt crack.  Our guy added a special tough one day when it was hot but sticking paper towels in his armpits to soak up the sweat.  Classy, I tell you.

Project

I've been working on a project for the husband the last couple of days and despite my best efforts to go to bed early (as usual), I keep staying up just to finish up "one more" section.  It's like reading and having to finish one more chapter, except less interesting.  And yet, I. Can't. Stop.  Oy.  Must try harder tomorrow.  I have no idea how to tie shoes into this because I am tired and since it's after midnight this will end up being tomorrow's post instead of today's, even though of course it's today's because it's already today.  Yep.  But who really needs a segue that makes sense?  I typed in middle of the night shoes and got this:

I have no idea why, and I really don't care because I'm just tired enough to find this funny.  Heehee.  Good night (morning).

Sheepses

Today the BSF sent me this:

Sheepies!  Why did she send me such a picture, you ask?  Well, I'll tell you.  When she and I were taking Homilectics (that's a fancy word for preaching class) in seminary, the text for my first sermon was the one where the sheep recognize their master's voice.  So there I was, nervous as hell and talking about sheep when I made a little bouncy sheep motion.  Did you know sheep were bouncy?  Anyway, it has become a silly joke with us and we make the hand gesture whenever we hear the word sheep.  Clearly this was a sign that tonight's post needed to be about sheep shoes (say that 10 times fast).

Sweet little baby sheep slippers would definitely inspire the hand motion!  I kind of want these in my size...

I don't really know what to say about these.  They're just too cutesy for me.  I guess they're sweet in a 50s nursery wallpaper sort of way, but as much as I like the style of the shoes I just can't get on board with this pattern.  And what's up with the bondage sheep?

Way more adorable.  I saw these in pink and blue, too.  Or maybe these are pink?  I thought they were red when I first saw the picture, but maybe not.  Either way, I like them.  Cute but not creepy cute.

Is it wrong that I want these?  I find them hilarious, and I would smile every time I looked at my feet.  And then do bouncy sheep motions until people thought I was crazy.  Or crazier.

OK, these are just wrong.  Seriously?  What the hell is even going on here?  I'm scared of the wedding that would involve these.

Much better.  Like a little green palate cleanser.

And we're back to the bondage sheep.  This time in a heel with a polka dot bow.  Who wears these??

I honestly like these best of the 3.  At least the spikes and the black bow make more sense, and help to balance the creepy cute bondage sheep.

Sheep Birkenstocks!  You didn't think I'd leave you with that last pair, did you?

Clouds

It was supposed to rain today.  At least that's what my phone told me.  But what does my phone know?  Actually, I just looked out the window and it seems to have rained about 50 drops, so I apologize to my phone.  It was cloudy all day, though, and muggy with it.  I hate muggy.  Don't get me wrong, the humidity here is nothing compared to other places.  I lived in Dallas for 3 years, so you would think I'd be used to it.  But I grew up in Montana, which basically has no humidity, so I think my body is spoiled.  At any rate, I spent a lot of the day annoyed by how sweaty my hair kept getting and cursing the humidity.  I did other stuff, too though.  Like go to Target for the second day in a row.  I went yesterday while I was running errands and got a few cleaning supplies.  When I got home I realized I had forgotten something, but figured I could pick it up today since I had to go out again.  I have no idea what that was.  I must have spent an hour wandering around Target desperately trying to figure out what the heck it was I'd forgotten.  It still hasn't come back to me.  I would like my brain cells back, please.

But enough about my faulty memory.  The Pinterest Friend recently sent me some "cloudy shoes for a cloudy day" and since today fits the bill, here we go.

Awww...cloudy baby shoes.

I actually think these are cute in a very themed way.  But hey, I like themes.  And I like blue.

Then, of course I had to go searching for more, but I have to ask myself why, because then I found these.  And these scare me.  I'm still going to try and talk the hubby into them, though, just to see the look on his face.

Much better.  And quite cute.

Speaking of cute.  How sweet are these?

I love these.  I want a pair for days like this when I'm annoyed with the clouds.

Poor one sad cloud.  What did the other clouds to do make it so sad?

Some nice, cloudy Mary Janes to round this out.  Hope your day was more happy clouds than grumpy!
