Raspberries

Today was kind of a weird day.  Not bad, just weird.  The hubby's tummy was yucky all day and I have a sinus infection.  I thought I was going to be away from the office for an hour and then our meeting ran long and I was gone for 5 hours, which meant I had to stay late to catch up on at least part of my to-do list.  I also had weird dreams this morning that I only vaguely remember.  So, weird.

It's also the BFF's birthday, which isn't weird at all.  She's awesome and I miss her.  She, her hubby, and the nephew are on their way to Michigan right now to visit her in-laws.  That's a long, hot drive with a 6 1/2 year old, so wish them luck.

Today is also National Raspberry Tart Day and National Raspberry Bombe Day.  Which isn't weird, per se.  Or at least no more so than any other random holiday.  The likes raspberries and they are kind of in the purple family, so it kind of works.  Here are some raspberry shoes to celebrate this day, whatever adjective you apply to it.

To conclude:  today was weird, but I love the BFF and hope she had a lovely birthday.  I also like raspberries very much.  Raspberry shoes are kind of cool, kind of weird, so they fit with the theme.  I think it's time for bed.  Stupid sinus infection.

BFF

So, we actually left the office early last night!  I think we left around 6:30, which is awesome.  I didn't have to try and sneak  in a nap!  Sadly I woke up this morning feeling worse than ever, so after a rather miserable day of hacking and blowing my nose and generally being gross the hubby took pity on me and we left at 4:00.  Can you even imagine?  I hope the office didn't fall down in our absence.  We came home and I took a lovely nap and read some.  I woke up awhile ago, caught up on a few things I should have finished at the office, and now I'm going to write a quick post and go back to sleep.  Hopefully I'm feeling better by tomorrow.

Today is Best Friends Day!  I have the BEST best friend.  She is awesome.  If I weren't so tired I could go on and on as to why she is the bestest, but I will have to save that for another post.  In the meantime here are 2 pictures in honor of her:

Purple Keens Mary Janes.  Purple is her favorite color and I already know she has Keens Mary Janes, so these are perfect.

And The Beatles, of course.  I love this shoe, and think we both need a pair.

I hope you have a bestest best friend who is as awesome as mine is!

Birthday

It's my birthday!  I was feeling all blah about it yesterday, but today has turned out to be quite lovely.  The hubby brought me breakfast in bed and then surprised me at work with cake.  Later we are going to go to a movie and maybe dinner (although I'm not sure where I will put more food...none of my pants are going to fit by the end of the day).

This is the same thing I did for my birthday last year, but I enjoyed reading through that post and thought I would do it again this year, but with updated years, of course.

1976.  I was 1 and apparently cards made fabulous hats.  I love that green shoe in the middle up there.

1981.  I started 1st grade but still had the same teacher.  Obviously she loved me so much she moved up a grade just to stay with me...   I couldn't find heels from '81 that I liked, but I thought these Miss Piggy shoes were awfully cute, and something I might have worn back then.

1986.  I'm brunette!  And I started 6th grade.  The suspenders were attached to a skirt made from the same material and it was adorable.  My mama made the outfit (as well as the ones in the pictures above and below).  Strangely enough I had the same teacher in 6th grade that I'd had in 5th.  I love the shiny red shoes.

1991.  Wow, no perm for 11th grade school pictures.  At this point I was a cheerleader, played volleyball, a member of National Honor Society, did school plays, was a band geek, and a geek in general.  Those shoes are really weird and cool and interesting.

1996.  I started college in January after taking 2 1/2 years off.  I met the BFF during Fall semester.  This picture is actually from 1997, but I couldn't find one from '96 and this one perfectly sums up our relationship.  I love the embroidered shoe but wish it had a different heel.  Alas, it was the 90s and heels were clunky.

2001.  Year 2 of living with the auntie in Texas.  Here we are in Austin.  Apparently I not only wore a 2 piece swimming suit but allowed myself to be photographed in it.  I love love love that shoe.

2006.  I finished internship in PA (thank God), spent a couple of months in MT, went back to Berkeley for my final semester of seminary, then moved back to MT to await my first call.  Flower came to us that summer from China!  This picture is from when my mama came to visit me in PA.  Thank goodness I had visits from her, my dad, the seester, and the auntie, or I might have gone crazy.  I'm not sure how I feel about the shoe.  I like elements of it, but not sure the overall effect is working for me.

2011.  I was back living in California, had my 2nd call at St. Someone's, and got engaged to the hubby!  This is Flower, me, the seester, and mama when we all accidentally dressed in the same color.  Coincidentally, the shoes I chose were also green (awesome green...those are so springy and fun!)

2016.  I'm not great at taking selfies, but my hair is super cute!  I'm hoping this year brings good things, not only for the hubby and me, but for those we love as well. I love love love those fuchsia shoes.

Thus ends this very narcissistic post.  Except for...

Purple-y Purple

Today is the 3rd Sunday in Lent and I have yet to do a Lenten Purple post.  Since I'm not leading worship anymore, I've stopped coordinating my shoes to the liturgical season, so I guess I'm less in tune with that stuff in terms of posts.  But today I will at least do one Lenten Purple post, which should make the BFF, The Bean, and Flower happy.

So purple-y!  I love the deep, rich color of these.

This looks almost exactly like my wedding shoes, only in purple.  So of course I'm going to have a certain fondness for it.

I don't care for booties, generally, and yet for some reason I kind of like this one.  I don't think I can pull off this particular style, but I'm sure someone out there can, and they need this.

Good color.  Interesting details.  And yet a little bit skanky-looking.

These would have been perfect for Wednesday worship in Lent.  I could have worn flats all day, and still had purple shoes for Wednesday evening worship.

Obviously the PF needs Lenten shoes!  These look so snuggly and warm.

And these are just cute. I would want the adult version and then we could be shoe twins.

So...even though I have failed thus far to do a Lent post, does it count that I'm at least drinking purple Crystal Light right now?  No?  Fine.

Memory Lane:  2013. 2014.  Apparently February 28 in years past is the day when I have posted crazy calendar shoes.

3 Things:
  1. Purple makes me think of some of my favorite people: the BFF, The Bean, and Flower.  I miss them all and wish they were here!
  2. The puppies got a bath today.  Once they dry off and settle down (they are total spazzes after a bath) they will be all soft and pretty smelling, and even better for snuggling.
  3. I've had doors and windows open the last 2 days, airing the house out.  It's still weird for me to be able to do this in February (despite 3 years in TX and 8+ years in CA), but it's lovely.

No Salt, Please

Today is National Margarita Day!  Margaritas are my drink of choice on the rare occasions when I actually go out.  I like them on the rocks, no salt (SKD thinks I'm crazy for skipping the salt).  When I lived in Texas I could get margaritas as big as my head.  Then I moved to the Bay Area and they were a quarter of the size for twice the price.  The BFF and I once made margaritas that tasted like feet.  And yet we still drank them (there is MUCH more to that story that I am not going to share).  I've even done a margarita post before, but I went and found some more shoes since today is a holiday and all.

I really like the pop of green against the black shoe, I just wish it were a different style of shoe.

These are horrible and hilarious all at once.

Aaaahhhh...makes me want to sit on a nice warm (but not too warm) beach with a book and a margarita or 2.

Clearly if I'm going to drink margaritas they should be out of a shoe themed glass.

That is one ugly shoe.  The margarita detail is actually cute, but the shoe is not.

I'm a lightweight, so I definitely can't drink a margarita the size of my head anymore.  But I wouldn't mind a tiny drink to celebrate.  I won't get one, but a girl can dream.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014.

3 Things:
  1. SKD's mom had surgery today, and things went well, so I am grateful for that, and will continue to pray for her recovery.
  2. I helped one of our new employees set something up on her Outlook today and she told me I was her hero.  She was being a bit facetious, but hey, I'll take it.
  3. I got to talk to my seester today for a bit.  I'd just been thinking of her when she called.  Seester telepathic communication!

Friends

Today is Friends Day on Facebook.  Facebook is celebrating its 12th birthday by putting together videos showcasing pictures of people's Facebook friends.  I didn't share my video (although I watched it), but decided I'd celebrate my friends with shoes.  Facebook "friends" run the gamut from family to best friends to acquaintances, to people I've never met.  I can't do shoes for all of them (546 friends would take forever), but I'll do a few.  So, in no particular order:

I have lots of friends who love green:  Mom, the Seester, Double A, and SKD, to name a few.  None of them wear heels, so I went with tennies.  Even though blue is my favorite, I'm also a fan of green, and I really like this shade.

Owls for the Pinterest Friend!  She's not into heels, either, but how adorable is this shoe?

Both the BFF and The Bean love purple.  The Bean is my mini-me, and loves her some heels.

We'll go with flats for the BFF.  I think these are adorable.  Flower also likes purple, and as she's only 10 she doesn't really need heels.

These are for the BSF.  I'm not entirely sure why, even.  I liked them, and they reminded me of her, so  there you have it, I guess.

I've posted these before, but they're my favorite of the adult moose shoes.  These, of course, are for my auntie.

There are lots more friends I could find shoes for.  I hope they don't feel left out.  I still love them and want to wish them a Happy Friends Day!

I got something like 21/36 hours of sleep in the last 2 days, so I'm feeling so very much better.  I could actually still go for a nap, but at least I've gotten some good sleep and it's actually helping.

BFF Birthday

Happy Birthday, BFF!  Awww...I love my BFF, and wish she was closer so we could have celebrated together.  You can find a brief summary of our relationship here from her birthday post 2 years ago, and last year's post here.  The BFF has had quite the past year, with both her and her hubby getting new jobs and moving to a new town.  She's doing well, though; settling in and getting the nephew settled and all.  I shall now celebrate her birthday the way I celebrate everything.  With shoes.  And this year I'm going with shoes based on her name.

Wow.  This is quite horrible.  Who do I speak to about naming this the same as my lovely BFF?

She has a whole line of kids shoes!

Same brand as the first one.  Still weird, but slightly better.

More kiddo sandals!

And of course we have to have some purple in here since it's the BFF.

Sparkly purple Mary Janes!  How celebratory!

Purple wedding shoes.  But also ballet flats, which is totally appropriate as she took ballet for many years.

Happy Birthday, BFF!  Love you!
