Smurfy

Here's a thought.  Let's not talk about me tonight, mmmkay?  After the last 2 nights I think it's time for a break from my blah blah blah.  The Holidays Calendar tells me that today is Global Smurfs Day!  Why?  I don't know!  But the link says it's always celebrated on the Saturday closest to June 25th.  Any of you Smurf aficionados out there know if there is significance to that date?  I haven't seen any of the new Smurf movies, but I used to watch The Smurfs on Saturday morning cartoons (in black and white for part of my childhood, thank you very much).  I had Smurf books and at least one little smurf figurine.  Which one?  I don't remember.  It was a boy.  That's all I can tell you.  But not Papa Smurf.  Let's look at shoes!

I think I could do with out Gargamel on the tongue but I appreciate the thoroughness of this shoe.

Is this Smurf running away?  Why is he so happy about it?  Maybe he's just going for a picnic?

I know there are women out there who love this style of shoe, but I am just not one of them.  I like the material, though.  Papa Smurf looks so happy!

Ooh, I love the red!

I love Mary Janes, you know this.  So I love the shape of this shoe, but the Smurfs + the pink + the polka dots + the black straps, heels, and soles are just too much.

I love the yellow shoelaces!  You know, when I was a kid Smurfette was the only girl Smurf.  Which was weird.  And a little creepy.  Oh wait, let me try that again:  In MY day we didn't have all of these high falutin girl Smurfs!  We had one!  Her name was Smurfette, and she was just Smurfy, thank you very much!  Heehee..I feel better now.

I'm off to bed with a book, I think.  TTYL!

PS - I THOUGHT I'd already done a Smurfs post!  At least I have a tiny bit of memory left.  And I only duplicated 2 of the pictures.

Happy

After last night's wallowing session I promised to do a happier post tonight, so here it is.  Today was actually a really good day.  A dear friend/angel called me this morning to ask about the storage unit and see if she could help.  I'm dreadfully tired of asking people for help, but she was so sweet and somewhat insistent.  We went to the storage unit place and found out that they screwed up with their advertising and aren't having an auction in June, so we actually had another month.  Notice they didn't let us know that particular bit of information.  But the good news remains that the storage unit is safe.  We are going to get our stuff out of there and close out our contract.  They have raised the rates 4 times in the last 2 years and our monthly fee has doubled, so we need to just to find room at home for everything.

Anyhoo, I was going to write tonight about my awesome friends anyway, this awesome friend just gave me one more reason.  I've been thinking that for all of it's crazy stressfullness, 2017 had been lovely in terms of catching up with friends.  I wrote a couple of weeks ago about the Camp/Author Friend being here for a visit and how wonderful it was to see her. I hadn't seen her in a couple of years.  In fact, we tend to hang out in June:  The last time she visited was in June, and the only time I have been to her house was in June.

A few weeks before that a friend from seminary was here for an overnight visit.  (Oh dear, she needs a nickname, and I've already used Seminary Friend...)  This particular friend is possibly one of the coolest people I know.  She's hilarious, smart, engaged, passionate, and since I've known her has lived in:  California, Washington, Ohio, New Mexico, England, Boston, Washington DC (twice), Niger, and is soon to move to Belgium.  Oh!  I will call her the World Traveler!  On a side note, I am from Montana and married a man from Ohio.  The World Traveler is from Ohio and married a man from Montana!  Really, it's just another reason to love her. I actually wrote a post about her visit, which I just now remembered.

In March (I think?  Hooray for Swiss Cheese Brain!) The Texas Friend was in the Bay Area with her significant other who was on a business trip.  I hadn't seen her in almost 7 years, since I went to Dallas for a visit in 2010.  She was the happiest I had ever seen her, which was really really great, and was a balm to my own heart.

Last week, I had a lovely Skype chat with The Coffee Friend who very sweetly agreed to be on my Bible Study Podcast.  I haven't seen her in person since 2006 when I was driving home from internship and spent the night with her and her husband in Wisconsin.  I'm so glad I got to chat with her and catch up.  It was the Sunday after that her beloved Labradoodle died, and I'm glad I got to talk to her before that.

I've said before that I have amazing friends, and 2017 has simply been more proof of that.  I am grateful to all of you who have loved and supported me even when I'm grumpy, depressed, freaking out, wallowing, whatever.

Now, on to shoes!  I went to my handy-dandy ideas folder tonight and just chose a bunch that made me happy:

Today was Bring Your Dog to Work Day, so I had to include these.  They're Mary Janes!  Also, it's much easier to bring my dogs to work when I'm working from the home office...

I want a skirt in this fabric.  How could you not smile wearing this?

Dragonflies!!!

Those are mermaids, how funny and cute are these?

Overall these shoes are kind of scary, but I love the colors and the stripes.

I will also take a skirt out of this material, please.

Look!  A garden for your feet!

Thank you, my friends, for helping contribute to my happiness.  I hope I can do the same for you.

Sunday School

The Hubby and I have been crazy busy at the office since I got back from Montana.  Which is good, but as we don't currently have internet at home, and I'm busy at the office, I haven't been posting much this year so far.  Oh well, busy at work is good, hopefully it will turn into lots of good stuff.  Right now I'm hanging out at Starbucks for a bit before going home.  I taught Sunday School this morning.  I'm always a bit awkward at church as it is, given everything from the past few years, but this morning was extra-special-awkward because I set the alarm off.  I  got to church, and went into the main building to get the key for the classroom, which is in an annex.  I went in and thought I heard a car alarm go off, but didn't think much of it.  A few minutes later the pastor's husband came to drop their daughter off for Sunday School and told me I'd set the alarm off.  All I could do was stare blankly and say, "um...what alarm?"  This is what happens when you spend 7 weeks in Montana.  They've had problems with break-ins in that building before, and apparently had another incident right before Christmas, hence the alarm.  It was an innocent mistake, but I still felt like a dork, especially when it got brought up in announcements during the service (just in passing, not in an accusatory way, but still, most people at this church don't even know me, now they just know me as the moron who doesn't know about the alarm).  Sigh.  I know it's not that big of a deal, but I was feeling weird already this morning and then the universe had to take this opportunity to remind me that I'm so very not perfect.  I need to look at shoes.

I typed in "Sunday School shoes" and for some reason saddle shoes were quite prevalent.  I'm not entirely sure why, but they make me smile, especially the polka dot ones.

Awww...this is more what I was picturing.

These are pretty much what I wore as a child, either in white or black.  I would have probably been wearing knee highs with them, though.

Maybe not this particular pair, but this is closer to what I might wear to Sunday School now.  Or at least several years ago.  I don't wear heels much anymore, and my shoes this morning were totally boring.

I like this, but wish it didn't have the lace panel.  I love the color, though, and definitely needed some blue to cheer me up.

I'm off to do laundry (woohoo!).  I hope your morning was less breaking-and-entering-y than mine...

Gloomy

It snowed today!  Unfortunately, it was also in the high 30s most of the day, so it mostly melted and was muddy.  The falling snow was pretty, but the mud was less so.  It's supposed to be much colder tomorrow (low of 3!) so if it snows more it will stick and be pretty.  In the meantime, tonight's shoes are inspired by the gloomy gray clouds that spent the day.

I really like these.  I love the criss-crossy straps.

These are booty adjacent, and yet I like them a lot on.

Very simple, but classy.

More straps!  You know I love Mary Janes.

I wish I could see these from the sides, because the fronts are very interesting.  I might like them.

OK, so you might think gray shoes are kind of boring, but not ALL shoes need to be wild and crazy, and I rather liked this selection.  You don't have to like them, but it's my blog, so I get to choose. 😋😝

Ghosties

I've currently got four things working in the background of my computer, so I figured while I waited for those to finish I might as well pop over here and do a quick post.  The calendar says it's October, but while it's been in the 80s still here, many of my friends in MT woke up to snow yesterday and today.  I think there should be a happy medium in there somewhere.  Nice, crisp fall days with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s would suit me just fine.  Not going to happen, but oh well.  Since the calendar does say October, despite what the weather says, it's time for some Halloween-themed shoes, so today we're going with ghosts.

Simple and cute.  My only question is, why are the ghost's necks so narrow?  Maybe they're like Nearly Headless Nick in the Harry Potter books?

Similar, but with a little orange to make them pop.

Adorable.  Although the ghosts are a little strange.  Is it the mouths?

I kind of want these in my size.  They'd be great as slippers; I could wear them for the whole month.

I thought I'd find more heels or adult shoes with ghosts on them.  Not so much.  I'm still not convinced these are ghosts, they look more like skulls, but I was told they were ghosts (and the internet would never lie to me) so I went with it.

I find this hilarious and silly.  It doesn't really say Halloween to me, but it certainly makes me smile.

OK, back to work.  And just in case you were worried, I've actually been working this whole time, going back and forth between cute ghosties and actual work.  The ghosties are more fun.

Laughter is Six!

Once upon a time there was a woman with a blog.  She typed and she blah blahed until she reached 1,000 posts.  And then she never posted again.  The end.

At least that's what it's felt like to me.  Maybe not to you as you may neither care nor pay that much attention, but I keep thinking I need to post and then get too busy or too tired or too whatever and don't do it.

But today is Laughter's 6th birthday, which seems the perfect reason for post 1,001! So here 6 pairs of shoes named after her:

I wish this didn't have the giant button on it, but it's cute otherwise.

This is sort of an odd shape but I bet it's cute on.

Love the color, hate the heel.

Um.  No.  Laughter deserves better than this ugly shoe.

Oooh, sparkly t-straps.  Much better!

This is so close, but not quite there for me.

Unlike Miss Laughter, who is practically perfect in every way:  She's funny, smart, sassy, adventurous, outgoing, and awesome.  And no, I'm not biased.  I can't believe you would say such a thing.

Creamsicles

Apparently this weekend is made for SKD.  Yesterday I went with green shoes, and today is National Creamsicle Day, so I'm going with orange shoes.  PLUS today is Color Book Day, which I did last year, but she also loves to color, so this is really the perfect weekend for her.

I like creamsicles OK, although I haven't had one in forever.  I really like creamsicle flavored yogurt.  I really really like the color of creamsicles.  The following shoes capture it sometimes and sometimes not so much, but they are what came up when I typed in creamsicle shoes:

These are from the 40s.  You know I'm picturing a fabulous retro outfit to go with these.

Canvas shoe collection!

I love these.  Very cute.  (Hey, Mom...we need these for the 50th anniversary pictures!)

These are from the 70s. Hmmm...the outfits I'm picturing aren't quite as cute as the ones from the 40s.

Awwww...the PB could be an adorable little creamsicle baby!

Happy Creamsicle Day!  Now I might have to go out and find myself a creamsicle to celebrate.

Green

Yesterday I was feeling a lot better, sinus infection-wise and thought maybe it wasn't as bad as I'd first feared.  Sadly I woke up today feeling awful.  I'm exhausted and have massive pressure in my face and there is much green stuff coming out of my sinuses.  Rather than continuing on that disgusting tangent, I'm just going to take the green of that sentence, make it a pretty green, and go with that as my theme for tonight:

They don't make my head feel better, but they make me feel better about the color green.

Gotcha!

Today is Flower's Gotcha Day!  10 years ago the seester and brother-in-law were in China finally meeting the baby girl they had only seen in pictures.  She was 8 months old, beautiful, perfect, and already sassy.  It's hard to believe it's been a decade already, but our lives are definitely been brightened and made better by her presence.  To celebrate, here are purple flowers for Flower:

One pair (or half pair) for each year.  Happy Gotcha Day, Flower!  Love you to the moon and back!
