I Can't

I was supposed to help the hubby with a project today, but the headache I went to bed with took the night to get progressively worse.  I managed to a few things, but for the most part I stayed home, snuggled with puppies, and put ice packs on my eyes.  Now I think I might have sinus infection, or at least sinus crap.  Either way it's rude.  During the times when my eyes didn't feel like they were going to pop from the pressure I managed to finish reading Jesus Freak by Sara Miles.  I have a huge long list of books I'm trying to catch up on, and this one needed to be finished so I can return in to the library.  I like my theology best in the form of humorous, often slightly snarky, spiritual memoirs, so this worked nicely.  And then I had to go look up "Jesus shoes."  First, I'm shocked I've never done this before.  Second, I wish I hadn't because now I can't unsee them.  And if I can't, you don't get to either.

That is a LOT of white Jesus.  On shoes.  I don't know why I'm shocked, since I've found all kinds of weird stuff on shoes.  I just can't get on board with these; they actually creep me out.  I don't even find them funny, just weird.  Poor Jesus...we're always trying to force him into weird boxes (in this case, shoe boxes!).  I really hope the guy has a sense of humor.

Affirming?

A good chunk of my day was spent with amazing people.  There was chocolate and laughter and a couple of reminders: 1.  I haven't actually forgotten how to socialize!  I'm now exhausted, but that's not unusual.  2.  I received many life- and gift-affirming comments, which was nice.  Wait, that 2nd one isn't written as a reminder, but I'm sure you get my point.  What I'm saying is that today was a win, and I enjoyed it very much.

Just for kicks, I typed in "life affirming shoes" for tonight's search, and this is what popped up first:

Not my cup of tea, necessarily, but kind of cute and funny.  No idea why these are life affirming, but at least they're interesting.  And then THESE were immediately after:

Oh.  My.  God.  Literally.  Are these blasphemous?  Am I going to hell for laughing at these?  Do I need the top pair?  Still less weird than the 3rd pop up:

What the hell?  I mean seriously, what is going on here?  THAT'S THE WRONG END, PEOPLE!  Again, what do these have to do with affirming life?  Although, I am currently laughing at the stupidity of these pictures (and there were lots more), so maybe that's how it's life affirming?  Giving me reason to laugh?

Despite weird shoe pictures, it was a good day.  Except for one thing:  The puppies ATE their first pair of my shoes.  The shoes were old, I got them the weekend of seminary graduation, so 7 years ago.  They weren't fancy, just cute, blue slip-ons.  But still.  The little beasts snuck into the hubby's office when we were elsewhere in the house and attacked the shoes I'd left under his desk while working this morning.  It's a good thing they're cute and snuggly, because I might have had to banish them forever otherwise.  Bratty little shoe eaters.

Christmas Pageant

The Sunday School Christmas Pageant is tomorrow, so this morning was the final rehearsal.  In case you were wondering, I will be playing the role of "Ima Gossip" (unless the kid who is supposed to play the role shows up tomorrow, in which case I just get to watch).  The play will be adorable and lovely tomorrow they always are.  Today the kids were whiny, distracted, wiggly, and kept jumping off the stage.  They always do.  I decided to do an image search for nativity shoes and I'm extremely grateful not much showed up.

I expected more of this, and while I don't hate this shoe, I'm just not sure the birth of Jesus is something we need to be depicting on our footwear.  I could be absolutely wrong.  (I'm not wrong)

What...is...happening...here?  I'm so confused.  Why are they on the stairs?  Why are they surrounded by ugly shoes?  Why?  So many thoughts and questions.

OK, these really don't have anything to do with the nativity, but I thought they were sweet.  Who doesn't need this reminder as they stare at their feet?

Short and sweet (?) today.  I'm off to get ready for the hubby's Christmas party tonight.  OK, technically it's "our" party as it's at our house, but it's really his baby.  I'm just there to look awkward and do my best to be a hostess (which for me involves a lot of unloading, loading, and running the dishwasher...)
