Happy 4th!

I hope you all had a fun, safe, and relaxing holiday.  We did absolutely nothing but have a reality TV marathon, which was fine, but man do I miss our annual family reunion on Flathead Lake.  One of these years I'm actually going to be able to take the hubby home for that.  Oh well, we hung out with the puppies, who dressed up for the occasion:

Yes, I did make a paper hat and force them to wear it.  The hubby says I need therapy, and he says the puppies are going to need therapy as well if I keep tormenting them with outfits.

Pedro also wore the hat, but here's a picture from earlier in the day with him in his flag shirt (which I made last year).  He's sitting on the rug I crocheted from old t-shirts.

Our mantel is a little more festive than last year, but still not terribly exciting.  Have I mentioned that my awesome mama made all of the wooden people you see on the mantel each month?  So at least I always have something cute to start with.

Last one before the shoes.  I used to do flags on my toes every year for the 4th, but I haven't done it the last several years, and I'm clearly out of practice.  The right one looks like it was done by a blind, drunk toddler.  But at least I tried to be festive.

OK, shoes.  I love these.

And these.  I could maybe even make a pair like this (although I doubt I could get my lines to go straight).

I have no idea what is happening here, but it frightens me.

Cute, but again, all you would see is a boring red strap once you put them on.

Damn.  That is all.

Much better.  I think this is quite cute.

Oh wow.  Why oh why can't I get the hubby to wear crazy men's shoes?

Love love love, even with the stupid slingbacks.

I like these, too.  Kind of crazy, but I think 4th of July is a holiday you can get away with slightly crazy-festive.

Ribbon laces!  And adorable kiddo shoes.

Happy 4th, everyone.  The puppies and I are worn out from all of the couch snuggling we did today while watching TV, so we're off to bed.

Advent 2

Today is the 2nd Sunday of Advent, so a second pair of blue shoes:

Advent means the paraments are blue, so I get to wear my favorite chasuble.  If only I could wear it for more than just a 4 week season.

These were my very first pair of Advent shoes.  I bought them 5 or 6 years ago, and I still love them.  I probably would have worn them for my wedding if I hadn't gotten the pair that was dyed to match my sash.

And here are my new pretty toes.  You can't tell from the picture, but they are purply-blue and sparkly.  I think they look very Advent-y.  SKD says they look like the skies over the nativity.

Today was another busy day.  After church I had a luncheon with the Octegenarians at church, and then went to an open house baby shower celebration. These are the shoes I made.  I didn't think about it when I made them, but they are quite Advent-y themselves.  I tried a different pattern than the first pair, and they turned out OK.

Pedro is once again modeling the hat I made for the baby.  Isn't he just so cute?  Don't worry, I've since made him a Thanksgiving hat and a Christmas hat, so he won't be jealous of the babies...

Summer

It's June 1st, and it was in the upper 90s here, today.  I guess that means that summer is officially here.  I like summer.  I'm not so fond of the crazy heat we have here.  I like somewhere in the 70-80 range, but we're more likely to be in the 90-100+ range.  Despite the heat, the hubby and I spent a good chunk of the afternoon in the backyard.  I read, he played on his ipad, and we both sweated.  And now my eyes are gummy and I'm sniffing like crazy.  But it was nice despite the sweat and the allergens.  So, summer feet...what does that mean for you?  Flip flops?  Fun pedicures?  Toe rings?  I did a quick search and found some fun pictures.

No shoes in the first pic, but some definite summer feet.  As you know, I'm not a huge fan of flip flops, but that doesn't mean they don't make me think of summer.  I like the 2nd picture because of the fun colors, and the 3rd picture looks like one I would take.  The last one is my favorite, though, because it looks like my feet looked all summer long.  I went everywhere barefoot, even wandering around town, to the pool, to the library.  I'm sure my feet were constantly filthy, and way tougher than they are now.  In my Birkenstock phase I constantly had striped feet in the summer from the tan lines.  Aaaah...summer memories.

Fleep Flops

I very rarely wear flip flops unless I'm getting a pedicure.  Which I did today.

I like my  blue toes.  The color is called Very Groovy, which is kind of boring in the name department, but the color reminds me of summer blue skies.  The flip flops are from Target.  I tend to buy an inexpensive pair to have on hand for pedicures, pools, whatever.  I really hate wearing them, but like having them when I need them.  The thing with flip flops is that they are frequently colorful, but you can't see the colors because they are under your feet.

The last pair I had were tie-dye but you couldn't see most of it.  Sadness.  And yes, this was a totally random and blathery post.  I had a migraine for a lot of the day and I think it might have scrambled my brain a little bit.
