Happy Birthday, Grandma!

I'm feeling a little weepy today.  It's part hormones, part homesickness, part stress, and a very large chunk is nostalgia over the fact that today would have been my Grandma Sylvia's 98th birthday (which also ties in with the homesickness).  I've posted the story on Facebook and here before, so you've probably heard it a million times, but for me this is the day that Christmas starts because this is the day we would go to Grandma and Grandpa's.  The 23rd was for celebrating Grandma's birthday, the 24th was for church on Christmas Eve (and much much much anticipation) and then the 25th obviously was Christmas.  It might not sound so exciting, but it was tradition, and I have so many memories from all of the years we went there.  The crazy thing is that it's been over 20 years since the last time we went to Grandma's for Christmas because we started bringing her to our house when she got a little older.  Grandma died 5 1/2 years ago and I miss her all the time, but especially during this week.  So I'm eating angel food cake to celebrate her as I write this, and following are some shoes in honor of her birthday.

The baby shoes are supposedly from 1917, and the slip was listed as from the 1910s sometime.

This was from the same etsy page and those might be the same shoes?  But I thought the outfit was really sweet and it was listed as from 1917, so I'm going with it.  Maybe baby grandma wore something similar.

I thought what the heck and typed in "angel food cake shoes."  How weird are these?  I can't imagine Grandma wearing flip flops, let alone angel food cake themed flip flops.  For that matter I can't imagine her wearing angel food cake themed anything.

Sylvia shoes!  Love them.

Another example of a Sylvia shoe.  I like the colors, and the style is one I normally would like, but this isn't my favorite.  It came in a couple of different colors, and they all left me a little flat.  But still, the colors are good.

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

Movie Marathon and Sleepover

SKD and I are currently watching White Christmas as part of our 3rd Christmas movie and sleepover.  It's not our 3rd annual because I was in Montana last year, and we missed our night.  We're hanging out in our jammies and she is getting puppy snuggles.  The puppies LOVE SKD, they get so excited when she comes over.  Tallulah was spinning circles at the door tonight when she got here.

So I Googled SKD's name with shoes tonight for the first time.  Her first name is unusual and I didn't expect to find anything, but it turns out she has shoes with her name spelled correctly!

How cute are these?  I feel like I've actually had them on the blog before but didn't know what they were named.

She also has a line of Ralph Lauren layette shoes named after her.

Another in that same line.  Sadly this yellow is the closest I could find to green, which is her favorite color.

In honor of the movie I also Googled something along the lines of 50s musical shoes:

Probably not actually from the 50s, but I don't care because they are soooo cute.

Same polka dot heel, so same line, maybe?  Also cute!

Lots of pink in this particular search.  I love the cutouts on the heels of these.

Ahhhh...here is SKD's green!

I know you're shocked that these are my favorite.  Blue t-strap spectator pumps.  I'm in love.  Definitely going in the imaginary 50s musical closet!

Now if you'll excuse me I must finish watching this movie for the 8 millionth time.

Cinderella

This link was shared on my Facebook wall today. It's Cinderella's glass slipper as reimagined by modern designers. As I wrote on the post, I really like the idea, but not so sure about the actual shoes. Let's take a look:

This one isn't bad, actually. I like the sparkles.

This doesn't make me think glass slipper. It does make me think OUCH!

Speaking of ouch, I'd probably slice myself or someone else open with this.  Not exactly the stuff of Disney fairy tales. Brothers Grimm, yes.

Glass spectator pumps?

I think this person got confused and designed Cinderella's wedding shoes instead of her glass slippers.

Don't like the heel, really don't like the platform.

Blue! Sparkly! Ankle strap! It was going so well until the front.

Oh come on, a glass bootie? Seriously?

So what do you think, any of these Cinderella-worthy?

Friends and Shoes

The Pinterest Friend has gone on a t-strap and ankle strap shoe spree, it seems.  Does she know me, or what?  I do love me some strappy shoes, and she found some really cute ones.

Love love love these.  Again, why can't I just reach into the screen and have them for my very own?

These are really odd.  Kind of cute, maybe a little too busy?  Yes, I think it's just too busy.  Maybe make the shoe one color with the cute flower detail?  Or even 2 colors, without the heel and toe patches?

The back half of this shoe bugs me.  I'm not fond of the heel shape or the wrinkles in the fabric on the heel.  The wrinkles look messy instead of deliberate.  But the front of the shoe is retro perfection.

Blue suede t-straps.  Well duh, of course I love them.  It looks the brand is Qupid, too, which is one that I like.

Good job, PF, you managed to redeem the green spectator pump!  This is so much more adorable the ones I found.  I would like these in every color, please.

Want these, too.  I'm like the kiddos when they watch TV and every toy commercial that comes on they immediately say "I want that!"

Because it's true.  I want these too.  Clearly I need more polka dot strappy shoes in my life.

The bows are adorable.  I kind of wish the shoes weren't patent leather.  I would like them better if they weren't so shiny (can you believe it?).

So, the PF does it again and finds awesome shoes.  She is moving to Idaho in a couple of weeks and it will be sad.  I mean, she's going to an awesome part of the world (it would be more awesome if it were just a LITTLE bit further east), but she won't be here.  Although selfishly, the internet still exists in Idaho, so maybe she will still send me shoes!

Spectators

Absolutely nothing happened today.  OK, that's not true.  When my nieces say they're doing nothing, I always ask them if they are breathing, blinking, sitting, standing, etc.  Of course stuff happened today.  There was breathing and reading and feeding puppies and giving dragons a bath and some errands; all of the usual stuff.  But nothing really blog-worthy.  So, skip the boring day and move straight to the shoes.  Lets talk about spectator shoes.  I mentioned recently how much I liked them, but I've never actually done a post on them.  Let's look, shall we?

Kind of an Oxford, kind of not.  I like the cutouts, though, they add some fun visual interest.  And you can't go wrong with classic black and white.

T-straps!  Love the details of the bow and the buttons.

Love the blue, like the brown, not sure about the fringy stuff on the red.  I think I would like it if that stuff wasn't there.  I like that they put the purple bow with the red accent.

Yes.  Please.  Someone PLEASE invent a replicator like on Star Trek so I can just order up shoes   whenever I want.  Oh, and a teleporter while you're at it.  Thanks, you're the best.

The shoe itself is just OK, but I love the turquoise brocade.

Green peeps, what do you think?  I like the color of the green, but not so sure about the shoes overall.

Yes.  A million times yes.  Be still my heart, I think I just had a shoegasm.

Oh, so one thing that happened today was the inevitable wasting time on Facebook.  I took a quiz to tell me what career I should really have.  How they know in 10 questions is up for debate, but it's an internet quiz, not like I was actually going for discernment purposes.  Anyhoo, the quiz said I should be a writer.  I've always kind of sort of not so secretly but also secretly wanted to write children's books, but I really don't think of myself as a writer.  The PF pointed out that I WRITE a blog, so I was already writing.  Maybe.  Maybe not.  For now I shall stick with my current job of puppy snuggling, even though it makes my nose and eyes itch.

Puppies and Pinterest Friend

The hubby is sleeping.  He's liking the new(est) job, but apparently it is wearing him out.  I barely see him right now. He leaves at 5 am, gets home about 8 pm, and is in bed within an hour of getting home.  So he is sleeping, and I am snuggling with puppies.  Today was a pretty good day.  I woke up with massive headache and so exhausted. I've been exhausted for almost a week now, and I'm hoping it's just my period (sorry, guys) and not something else.  Anyway, the day started out rough, but improved by late afternoon, for which I am grateful. Let's celebrate a better afternoon with some shoes from the Pinterest Friend.

How cute are these?  The nieces  have some adorable ladybug dresses my mom made for them, and I think these would be adorable with them.  They wouldn't quite match, but hey, ladybugs!

Um...OK.  I'm assuming this is sculpture, but I really want it to be a slide.

Very Easter-y!

Really cute.  Whenever I wear my gray shoes someone always complains that they are boring, not colorful enough.  Sure, this one isn't as bright as some others, but I love how simple and classy this shoe is.

These are also very Easter-y?  I just can't with these. Way too much pastel crammed into this one pair of shoes.

I'm not sure what to say about these, either.  The PF said she had to look twice at the slits in the sides, and I have to agree.  I think they are supposed to add interest, but it's a little too much on shoes that are still boring.

These, on the other hand, I would definitely wear.  So cute!  Have I ever mentioned that I have a love of spectator pumps?  And yet, I've never owned a pair.

Holy cute, Batman.  Love these. love the color, the flowery part, the flower detail, the fact that they are Mary Janes.

PF is right, too many textures.  I don't think I'd mind the straps if these were one color, or even one color with a contrasting heel.  As it is, there is just too much going on here.  Coco Chanel (I think) said before you leave the house you should take of one accessory so you aren't wearing too much.  I think this shoe could have benefited from that advice.

Well, it's a tough job, but I have to go snuggle these puppies some more before bed.  They got a bath tonight, so they are all soft and sweet smelling.  I'm ignoring the mild case of of hives I've got under my chin, so I guess it's love.
