Holy Saturday

You'll be shocked to know that we spent a good chunk of the day unpacking.  You'll be even more shocked to learn that I scraped the crap out of my arm.  I need a vacation from this move, please.

On a happier note, we spent the evening with some friends and got to meet their foster son, who is 2.  He's adorable and so much fun.  I had a great time playing with him.  I figured tonight's post should be about boys' toddler shoes:

I wonder why this one didn't come up on my search for puppy shoes?  The pink version did, but not the blue.  Rude.

These are so serious and grown up looking, and yet somehow re still fun and toddler-like.  Or maybe I'm just insanely tired.

Woody!  Every kid needs a pair.

Blue, but not my favorite of tonight's shoes.

Maybe I'm just in a brown and orange, old man shoe kind of mood?  Because I think these are adorable, too.

Between the unpacking (and helping the hubby haul the ginormous outdoor fireplace to the backyard) and playing with a very busy 2 year old, I am not really tired.  I think I shall go to bed.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2015.

3 Things:
  1. Happy little boys who have incredibly infectious grins and who share their toys with me.
  2. As the post title says, it is Holy Saturday.  I always feel like today should be overcast.  Maybe not as gloomy as I think Good Friday should be, but not as sunny as it was today.  Today was beautiful, which is good, despite my weird holy week weather feelings.  Holy Saturday is a day of waiting and watching. A day between.  A day to reflect on the mysteries and grace of God's promises.
  3. An evening with good friends and yummy food.

Rain

It's raining.  Normally this makes me happy, and on one had it still does because we need the moisture.  On the other hand, I have a backyard of yard stuff, including cushions, getting wet after the movers dumped everything and left.  I was so focused yesterday on the garage I didn't even think about the backyard.  This Bitmoji pretty well sums up my attitude toward the rain today:

Only my Bitmoji self can pull of skinny pants and booties.

Anyway, in honor of the rain, the PF sent me some fun rain boots!

OK, I know these aren't rain boots.  They're adorable baby cowboy boots!  But hopefully not steel-toed.  Oh dear, I might be too klutzy for babies.  What if they actually need steel-toe baby shoes (plus a helmet and lots and lots of bubble wrap) to protect them from mommy?

These will definitely brighten up a gloomy day. Also appropriate as yesterday was the first day of Spring.

Blue, of course, because she knows her audience.  I like these.  I would wear them.  Again, I must ask, don't rain boots just make your feet sweat?  Anyone out there wear them and want to way in on this extremely pressing question?

Horsey boots!

Kind of a boring color, but you know I love a good polka dot.  And I think I see some black ones with multi-colored polka dots in the picture above?

I guess I won't complain too much about the rain today as the hubby and the parents have both had snow in the past few days.

Memory Lane:  2013 (from yesterday in case you were curious). 2013. 2014.

3 Things:

  1. Rain.  It's a blessing, even when I'm dumb and don't put stuff away properly.
  2. Service people who come on time.  I really hate those 4 hour windows you normally get, but today I had a window 7:30-8am window for the internet guy and he was there by 8:10.  Yes, that's technically late, but very timely compared to how those appointments usually go.  He was also very nice, very efficient, and done by around 9:00.
    1. Also a very nice lady I spoke with on the phone about ordering some stuff for the office.  She was so helpful when I was so confused.  She then said the hubby should give me 2 dozen roses for being the wife of the year.  No wonder I liked her!
  3. Internet at the new house!  It was only 2 days without it, but still, I'm happy I didn't have to wait longer.

Doodle Shoes

Today is National Doodle Day, which according to that link, is this:  "National Doodle Day is a doodle-tastic annual fundraising event organised by Epilepsy Action. On Friday 5 February 2016, friends, family and famous faces will join together to draw a line through epilepsy."  Excellent.  I love a day that is helpful.  Are you a doodler?  I can't draw for crap, so doodling always hits my perfectionist button and then I freak out about what is supposed to be a somewhat thoughtless process.  I'm more of a squiggler:

This is a post-it note I squiggled on while I was on one of my 8 million phone calls with various customer service people today.  I used to do this on my notes in class, too.  I have no idea what you would call this besides squiggles.  A squiggle doodle?  A Squoodle?  Oh well.  Let's look at some shoes doodled upon by people who can actually draw:

Look how detailed this are.  I find these really cool and frankly amazing since I definitely can't draw like that.

Also cool, and I like the contrast of the black on the blue shoes.

Or the white on the blue shoes!

I like that these don't match.

Simple, but again, I like the contrast between the blue shoes and the white doodling.

I *think* these started as white and the  blue was added, because they don't match, and I don't think it's one white shoe and one blue shoe.

Not my favorite, but still cool.

I don't think these are hand-doodled.  If they are someone has WAY more patience than I do.

Happy Doodle day!  Now go doodle on some shoes.  Or scrap paper.  You know, whatever.  No wait, first finish reading this post!

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014. 2015.

3 Things:

  1. I didn't mutter, say, or scream obscenities today when I got super frustrated calling 8 million customer service people today!  (Hey, I'll take my gratitude where I can find it)
  2. Despite my grumpiness I was able to help the sales reps figure some stuff out in a meeting today.  I like when I know stuff that's actually helpful.
  3. I bought on-sale yarn today.  Pedro needs a new hat!

Festival of Sleep

Did you know that January 3rd is the Festival of Sleep?  Did you sleep in today?  Catch a nap?  I did neither, but maybe I could still go to bed early and get some extra sleep?  I really want to be asleep right now.  I'd like to go to sleep for at least a week.  Maybe a month.  Maybe until things settle down and get sorted out.  Hibernation sounds quite delightful.  In honor of today's sleepiness, I decided to go with slippers for today's post.  And since I'm wearing snowflake socks today

I figured snowflake slippers were the way to go.

I'm not sure if these are for adults or children, but they're adorable and they look snuggly.

Blue!  And fuzzy.  And snuggly.  And warm. And they have a sole, which are my favorite kind of slippers.

More blue.  I can't help it, I'm biased.

But red!  I could have slippers that matched the boots that go with the puppies' sweaters!

Blue and green and purple and pink...all of my favorite people's favorite colors.

More red.  Dang, this post is making me want snowflake slippers in ever color and style.

For my green peeps.  I want to wear these with sweats or pjs and sit around watching movies or reading while drinking tea or hot chocolate.

Snowflake slippers for the whole family!

Enjoy whatever sleep you get today, and may your feet be encased in something warm and possibly fuzzy.

Movie Marathon and Sleepover

SKD and I are currently watching White Christmas as part of our 3rd Christmas movie and sleepover.  It's not our 3rd annual because I was in Montana last year, and we missed our night.  We're hanging out in our jammies and she is getting puppy snuggles.  The puppies LOVE SKD, they get so excited when she comes over.  Tallulah was spinning circles at the door tonight when she got here.

So I Googled SKD's name with shoes tonight for the first time.  Her first name is unusual and I didn't expect to find anything, but it turns out she has shoes with her name spelled correctly!

How cute are these?  I feel like I've actually had them on the blog before but didn't know what they were named.

She also has a line of Ralph Lauren layette shoes named after her.

Another in that same line.  Sadly this yellow is the closest I could find to green, which is her favorite color.

In honor of the movie I also Googled something along the lines of 50s musical shoes:

Probably not actually from the 50s, but I don't care because they are soooo cute.

Same polka dot heel, so same line, maybe?  Also cute!

Lots of pink in this particular search.  I love the cutouts on the heels of these.

Ahhhh...here is SKD's green!

I know you're shocked that these are my favorite.  Blue t-strap spectator pumps.  I'm in love.  Definitely going in the imaginary 50s musical closet!

Now if you'll excuse me I must finish watching this movie for the 8 millionth time.

Souvenirs

First the excellent news:  I haven't had a sinus infection since March!  Sinus issues, yes, but no actual infection requiring antibiotics!  In less fun news, apparently the gods of illness were disappointed with my coming to Montana and not immediately getting the head cold/sinus infection/bronchitis from hell, so they decided to gift me with stomach issues.  Yep, again.  I woke up yesterday feeling nauseous and crampy and didn't feel completely human until this evening.  Blah.  It was less than fun.  But at least now I'm feeling better, and I can show you the tree I decorated on Thursday night:

This is the tree in Mom's office, and it has all of the ornaments she has collected from places she has visited.  Or, in some cases, ornaments from places we kids have visited and gotten ornaments for her.  She started collecting them 20 years ago when she and Dad and I drove to Washington DC and about a million other places.

Here is a close-up of one of the ornaments so you get a better idea.  Some of them are just gold, but others have lots of color on them.

I don't have a travel tree, so I thought I'd look for shoes from places I've lived or visited.

Montana!  These are U of M Grizzly shoes.  UM is my alma mater.  Plus, people tend to think that Montana is full bears that just wander around so everyone sees them on practically a daily basis.  I lived in Montana from birth until I was 24 and then I moved to

Texas for 3 years where I lived with my aunt.  I also lived there again for a summer while I did my chaplaincy training at Children's Medical Center of Dallas.

From Texas it was off to seminary in California for the first where I have now lived 3 separate times.  Look!  More bears!

These are Penn State shoes.  I lived in Pennsylvania for a year for internship.  I don't like to talk about it.  But I won't hold it against these cute blue and white striped shoes.

I haven't lived in Hawaii, but the BSF did her internship in Honolulu, and I got to my 3 week cross-cultural experience for seminary on Oahu and stay with her.  My choices were Hawaii in January or South Dakota in January.  Um...duh.  Flip flops are perfect to represent Hawaii.  Except there they call them slippers.

I've been to Washington  DC three times:  Once in High School (the first time I ever flew and ever traveled by myself--totally freaked out the flight attendant with my crying), then that trip with the parents and all of the driving, and again in College for the Lutheran Student Movement National Gathering.  I would love to go back.

These are actually New Orleans Saints shoes, but I just like them for the fluer de lis. I've been to New Orleans twice. First for Mardi Gras when I was 26.  That was interesting.  Although my memories tend to be a little fuzzy...  The second time was as a pastor, taking kids to the National Youth Gathering.  I would also love to go back there, as I really haven't seen much in terms of touristy stuff.

I've been to lots of other places, but this seemed like enough for one post.  Now I'm possibly off to bed, but with the amount of sleep I've gotten in the last 2 days, I'm not sure how soon I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Airplanes

I'm currently sitting in the Salt Lake airport waiting for my next flight. I started the day in Sacramento and went to LA. From there to SLC, and from here to Montana! It's a long day and a dumb route, but the end result is totally worth it. I have a 3 1/2 hour layover so I'm enjoying some people watching. I'm also eating yogurt while sitting outside McDonald's, so I feel smug about my eating habits, but I really want some French fries. Obviously today our theme will be airplane shoes.

The PB needs these. I want a matching pair.

I think I need plane shoes for the next time I fly. I wonder if anyone would notice?

Also adorable.

These are hilarious. I never wear heels when I fly, but if I did they would be these.

Or I could run around the airport in plane slippers!

In approximately 6 hours I will be hugging the seester and the nieces!
