Pentecost

Today is Pentecost in the church calendar.  It's the day we celebrate the "birthday" of the church.  It's the day, 50 days after Easter (hence the penta), that the Holy Spirit came to the disciples, and to us.  Last year I set the baptismal fount on fire.  Don't worry, it was on purpose!  And it was awesome.

With my Swiss Cheese brain, I totally forgot I did it until this morning.  Not that I necessarily would have repeated it, but I can't believe I spaced it out.

Anyway, the color of Pentecost, as you can see above, is red.   Which means I get to break out my ordination shoes for the occasion.  I asked the acolyte (also the Sr. Pastor's daughter) to take a picture.

I love it.  She set the camera right smack on the floor for the shot.  Cracks me up.

The Sr. Pastor is no fun and won't let us buy him red, shiny shoes for Pentecost, but at least he wore fun red socks.

Even the shoe calendar got into the spirit today.

I'm sure it's just coincidence, but I like that they are red.  They are from Europe, around 1850, which is cool.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go research mid-19th Century outfits to go with these boots, and then maybe find something to set on fire.

Flame-y

Today is Pentecost in the life of the church.  It is the day Christians celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples.  The liturgical color of the day is red, so many churches encourage everyone to wear red.  I, of course, wear red shoes.  You can see the pair I wore last year here.  Awhile two of my pastor friends posted the following to my Facebook wall:

These are Prada, and I immediately said, "Pentecost shoes!" They are perfect because they are both red and flame-y (the Spirit appeared in the form of tongues of fire over the disciples' heads).

So off I went to look for other red flame shoes for Pentecost, and I found some, but I also got sucked into the sheer number of variations there are on the Prada shoe.  I don't normally do a whole bunch of the same shoe, but I couldn't help myself.

Yellow, but still some red, so though they would still go with Pentecost.

But now we have green and blue, with little rockets on the back.  The flame motif isn't as obvious with these.  But I do love the color combinations of both.

Same color combo, different style, more obvious flames.

Green flames?  These look like they should go with a super hero outfit of some kind.

Some repeats , but it's easier to compare the differences and similarities.

For some reason these make me think of Christmas.  Christmas flames!

Valentine's flames?

I don't have a holiday for this one.  Maybe this is what Elsa from Frozen would have worn if she had heat powers instead of snow powers.

Whoa.  This makes me think of a racecar.

Flames and Roses.  Sounds like a bad grunge band.

These are down right boring comparatively speaking.  These must be the flame shoes you wear to the office.

I really had no idea this post would go in this direction, but I kind of liked it.

To Post Or Not To Post...

...that is the question.  I haven't been posting much lately.  You being observant readers probably noticed this from the lack of posts.  The result is that I'm rather behind in things that I'd thought to post about.  Easter was Sunday, but it's the season of Easter until Pentecost, so I can still talk about it.  I actually bought new shoes for Easter!

I wanted these because they said Easter to me (they're much prettier in person).  But they didn't have any in my size, of course.  I swear, everyone wears my size, because it seems to be the one size that's always missing.  At any rate, no flowery shoes for me this year.  Now, here's where things got interesting:  I was shopping with the hubby, and the hubby is VERY opinionated.  He kept selecting black shoes.  I kept telling him I wanted something bright and fun for Easter.  Sadly, there were really no colorful shoes that I liked or were in my size.  I ended up with shoes of the hubby's choice (making him very smug):

Cute, but not my usual style choice.  I got lots of compliments on them, though, so they must have been OK.  The hubby also had a say in the dress I ended up getting (I couldn't figure out what dress to wear with these particular shoes), so then he was extra smug:

Again, not something I would necessarily choose for myself.  It grew on my throughout the day, but I kind of felt like I was trying to hard with the dress or something.  Maybe it's just a little more girly than I usually go with?

So that's Easter.  And since Easter has come, I have broken out the Easter socks.  Usually I would wear holiday socks the whole month of the holiday, but this year the socks felt like Alleluia...they needed to stay in the drawer until Easter was actually here.  So yesterday and today since it was slightly cooler, I broke out the socks:

The top pair are new this year.  I think Mom bought me the second pair, but I could be remembering that wrong.  I love how bright they both are.

So, I just looked back last year's Easter post, and I'd actually forgotten about these shoes, which is crazy.  See what I mean about loving colorful shoes for Easter?

Happy Easter (season), everyone!  Please go eat some chocolate for me.  I can eat it again, but we need to spread the calories around...
