Hey, guess what?!
Have you guessed yet?
How about now?
C'mom...are you even trying?
OK, fine, I'll tell you after the jump.

Lazy
Today is National Lazy Day! This day should always be on a weekend rather than a fixed date, but oh well, no one asked me. Last year I wrote that lazy days, for me, involve comfy pants and fuzzy socks or slippers, but living in California August 10 is never cold enough. This week is cooler, thankfully, as it has only been in the 90s instead of triple digits, so that's nice. But I talked to Mom (hi, Mom!) today and she said it was only 60 at home. I'm totally jealous. In honor of lazy days that are also cold, tonight's theme is crocheted slippers:
Blues and stripes and flowers! I like the rolled cuffs, too.
I've actually made an afghan with the yarn the flowers are made from. I wish the slippers were a more fun color, but I like the flowers.
Two-tone blue. What's not to love?
This looks like Lion's Brand yarn, which is appropriate as today is also World Lion Day.
More blue. More flowers. Yay!
Bright, rainbow stripeys!
I hope you had a chance to be lazy today regardless of the temperature where you are.
Here's the Lazy Song by Bruno Mars to help get you in the mindset.

Dogs and Cats
Today is Assistance Dog Day, International Cat Day, and Happy Odie Day, so today's shoe choices, at least to me, are obvious:
I just realized that the flip flops don't actually have Odie pictured. Rude. I always liked Garfield and Odie. Poor Odie always gets picked on by Garfield, but he's such a sweet, dumb dog that I had to like him. Which is kind of funny as one of the things I always disliked about dogs growing up was that they licked and Odie is a slobber machine. Oh well.
In other news, now I have puppies and I actually like them. I realize this is not news to those of you reading right now.
In other other news, once upon a time we had a cat. The cat hated me. The end.
In other other other news, it's Monday and I'm tired, and a little bit grumpy for reasons that may or may not be reasonable. I haven't decided yet.

Toes and Dragonflies
We had some friends call this morning saying they were going to be in our area and did we have time to get together? We haven't seen them in several months, so it was nice to hang out. They have a 2 1/2 year old foster son who is adorable and full of energy. He liked playing with the dogs and watching the dragons. So, counting today that's 3 weekends in a month that I've actually been social. Pretty sure that's some kind of a record for me of late. At any rate, it was nice to see them and hang out for a few hours. Plus, they're the first people to come visit our new house since we moved in.
In other news, today is Wiggle Your Toes Day. Since sandals tend to show off toes I decided to do that, and then ended up looking for dragonfly sandals.
Blue, dragonfly, diamonds are my birthstone, damn thing between the toes. 3 out of 4 isn't bad, I guess?
How cute are these? I should have had these for the wedding!
I see variations on this type of jewelry all the time when I'm searching, and there were a whole bunch of dragonfly examples tonight. Would this be more or less annoying than the flip flop strap between the toes? Also, are they adjustable, because it would be really uncomfortable if the top part wasn't long enough and kept pulling up on the toe.
Also cute.
I love the colors on these.
Regardless of what you're wearing on your feet go wiggle your toes in celebration of the day!

Watermelon
So, I've (mostly [sort of]) come to turns with the fact that I am not and never will be perfect. But does the universe really need to come along and remind me just what a colossal eff up I am? Today was one of those days, and it sucked. It got a little better as the day went on, but this morning was not good, I felt terrible, I had major guilt, and sometimes my best doesn't even come close to being good enough.
Tonight I'm moving on and looking at watermelon shoes, because it's National Watermelon Day, even though I did them last year, too. Besides, I love watermelon, and I don't feel like trying to figure out another theme.
I want to like these, and I'm 80% there, but something falls a little short for me, and I can't put my finger on what it is.
Tie-dye watermelon shoes! And if they aren't actually tie-dye, I don't want to be disillusioned.
Wow. And no. Except, maybe? They're so wacky they're almost fun.
Cute!
These are weird. They're weirder when you realize they are knitted or crocheted coverings over booties. Who comes up with this stuff?
We all needed a nice palate cleanser to round things out.
Now I wish I had some watermelon. Why did I buy peaches when I went to the store earlier?!

Lipstick
We were at the office until 9 last night. But I got to sleep in until 8 this morning! The hubby is working from home today, which is something I pretty much never get to do. At least my day has involved chocolate. These sentences pretty much describe my mood today: up and down, back and forth. Whatever. It's National Lipstick Day, so let's look at some lipstick shoes, kay?
I've never really liked lipstick and haven't worn it much. I either can't find a color I like on me, or I find something I like and then the wind blows my hair into my mouth and it sticks to the lipstick, or I have lipstick on my teeth. I'm a terrible girl. In the last year or so I've started wearing Burt's Bee's tinted lip gloss, which I actually like, so maybe there's hope for me yet. I'm not sure I have a burning desire to wear lipstick shoes, but I really like this last picture with the black shoes and pops of color.
Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back to vacillating between emotions.

Scotch & Soda
As I mentioned last year, July 27th is a rather eclectic day. For instance, it's Take Your Pants For a Walk Day, which I failed at again this year as I'm wearing a dress. It's also Bagpipe Appreciation Day, which is awesome in my book. As I did both of those last year, this year I'm going with National Scotch Day. Actually, that goes with the other themes. The bagpipe-Scotch connection is obvious, but I think having some Scotch first might make taking your pants for a walk seem like a totally logical thing to do. It turns out there is a line of shoes called Scotch & Soda, so here are a few selection:
I don't particularly love any of them, but nor do I hate any of them. I'll let you decide if you love, hate, or are indifferent.

Hammocks
Yesterday was the Bean's birthday. I can't believe she is now a teenager. It was just yesterday that she looked like this:
Awww...wasn't she the sweetest baby bean? And I didn't post on her birthday. Worst. Auntie. Ever. I actually had the post planned and everything, just got tired and forgot to do it when I got home. Anyway, she recently told me that purple is still her favorite color but that blue is also her favorite. Sniff. Sniff. I'm so proud. So here are some blue and purple shoes to help her celebrate her 2nd day of being an official teenager.
Love them. I think we need matching auntie-niece shoes, don't you?
These are kind of weird and kind of fun.
If we wore the same size we could get both pairs and each wear one of each!
Yesterday was also Hammock Day, which sounded pretty fabulous. I think the Bean and I could have definitely found a beach somewhere and hung out in a hammock to celebrate her birthday. She likes flip flops, and these came up under hammock shoes. I like the bright colors.
It's a whole series of fun hammock fleep flops! I would even put up with the damn thing between my toes if it meant spending a day in a hammock with the Bean.
Happy Belated Birthday, Bean!

Lollipops
I had a massive headache today. I've had headaches for most of my life, but for the past year or so I've been having really horrible menstrual migraines. Pretty much nothing I take helps, which sucks. Today was the lucky day for this month, and it was so bad it was making me nauseous (which happens frequently). Thankfully it was a fairly slow day in the office so I was able to come home and sleep for awhile. Stupid thing is still hanging in there, but it isn't bad if I don't move my head too much or too fast. At least the nausea has subsided. If anyone has any suggestions for this type of headache please share, because nothing I've tried so far has worked.
On a happy coincidence, today was Nap Day, so I celebrated accordingly for once! It was also National Lollipop Day, which I did not celebrate, but which gave me the idea for shoes for tonight.
I love these! I think the line is called lollipop, so it still fits even though the shoes have no actual lollipops on them. Although maybe you can imagine it in an abstract sort of way? PLUS, I actually know someone who owns this last pair! See?
And one pair with actual lollipops. Because baby shoes are always appropriate.
Also, I have now had this song stuck in my head while writing this post. Love it.
Me and my headache are going to bed now, thankyouverymuch.

Happy Birthday, Mom!
Today is my mom's birthday! I was thinking a lot about her today, of course, and even got to Skype with her for a few minutes, which was awesome and much needed. She was 28 when I was born, which means by the time she was my age she was dealing with 13 year old me (and brother and sister were 17 and 20). I can't really imagine have a 13 year old, let along a 17 and 20 year olds. I was also thinking about all of the stress I must have put her through even before I got to be a moody, angsty, annoying 13 year old. For instance, before I was 5 or 6 I had: a giant sliver in my foot that had to be removed by a doctor. A pencil lead in my knee that had to be removed by a doctor and required stitches. I split my chin open on the
side of the pool and had to get stitches. Then when that was barely heeled I jumped up at the pharmacy counter to try and see and split my chin open again (no stitches that time!). I laid my arm on the
wood stove (still have the scar). Fell on the sidewalk at school and tore a giant chunk out of my knee (same knee as the pencil lead!). My forehead had an encounter with a nail and I freaked her out completely when I came in with my hand over my eye and blood everywhere and she thought I'd poked my eye out. I somehow got my ankle bone caught in the spokes of my brother's bike while we were riding it (there was much blood and a very nice lady who came out to sit with me). I cracked my collar bone somersaulting over someone's foot (I went through a phase where I preferred to somersault rather than walk). I got glasses around 2nd grade, which is fairly normal, but then started needing a new prescription every 6 months, so ended up on daily atropine drops and had to have bifocals in 5th grade. My freshman year I broke my wrist during volleyball practice. My Junior year I ended up in the ER with a bruised sternum. My senior year I somehow managed to dump boiling water on my wrist (same one I broke [still have that scar, too]). I was an expensive and stressful kid and my mom was my primary care giver. Can I just take the opportunity to say I'm terribly sorry? It's not nearly enough, not even a tiny percentage of a fraction of enough, but here are some shoes to say thank you (they all have hearts on them for love):
Look at these fun colors! I wouldn't generally wear heart-themed shoes, but these are cute. And Zazzle, not surprisingly.
I just now noticed the broken hearts on this. Probably appropriate as I'm sure I broke my mom's heart on more than one occasion.
I love baby shoes. And conversation hearts. True story.
Yay for some green, which is Mom's favorite color!
Adorable. The PB needs a pair. AND my mom can knit, unlike me, so she could totally make these. Not that I will ask her because it's her birthday and she's done enough for me already.
Love you, Mom!
