Laughter is Six!

Once upon a time there was a woman with a blog.  She typed and she blah blahed until she reached 1,000 posts.  And then she never posted again.  The end.

At least that's what it's felt like to me.  Maybe not to you as you may neither care nor pay that much attention, but I keep thinking I need to post and then get too busy or too tired or too whatever and don't do it.

But today is Laughter's 6th birthday, which seems the perfect reason for post 1,001! So here 6 pairs of shoes named after her:

I wish this didn't have the giant button on it, but it's cute otherwise.

This is sort of an odd shape but I bet it's cute on.

Love the color, hate the heel.

Um.  No.  Laughter deserves better than this ugly shoe.

Oooh, sparkly t-straps.  Much better!

This is so close, but not quite there for me.

Unlike Miss Laughter, who is practically perfect in every way:  She's funny, smart, sassy, adventurous, outgoing, and awesome.  And no, I'm not biased.  I can't believe you would say such a thing.

Lipstick

We were at the office until 9 last night.  But I got to sleep in until 8 this morning!  The hubby is working from home today, which is something I pretty much never get to do.  At least my day has involved chocolate.  These sentences pretty much describe my mood today: up and down, back and forth.  Whatever.  It's National Lipstick Day, so let's look at some lipstick shoes, kay?

I've never really liked lipstick and haven't worn it much.  I either can't find a color I like on me, or I find something I like and then the wind blows my hair into my mouth and it sticks to the lipstick, or I have lipstick on my teeth.  I'm a terrible girl. In the last year or so I've started wearing Burt's Bee's tinted lip gloss, which I actually like, so maybe there's hope for me yet.  I'm not sure I have a burning desire to wear lipstick shoes, but I really like this last picture with the black shoes and pops of color.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back to vacillating between emotions.

Social Media

Today is Social Media Day.  It could be argued that EVERY DAY is social media day, but this is the one specifically set aside. I used to be on social media a decent amount, but since we launched the podcast network some days I feel like it has taken over my life.  All of our 19 shows each have their own Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Google+ pages.  It's very confusing.  Thankfully the interns are starting to take some of the updating on, so maybe my brain will solidify out of its pudding-like state some day in the near future.  Of course I went in search of social media shoes, and actually was surprised there were so many options:

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why any of these are necessary, especially the baby shoes.  You know I love me some baby shoes, but these are over the top.  I do like the picture above the baby shoes, though, because those are actually icons for your desktop.  I should see if I can find how to put those on my computer.  The rest?  Eh...only if I worked at an actual social media job.  Which I guess I kind of do, so maybe I should get some shoes for the office?  The tennies would be more practical for all of the walking I'm trying to do.  Which, by the way, is going well!  I hit 10,000 steps yesterday for the first time since the 80s (isn't hyperbole fun?).  I'm also drinking a TON of water, which helps in that I then have to go to the bathroom every 30 seconds and thus get more walking in.  Good times.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014. 2015 (warning: LOTS of language in this post).

PS--sorry for the commercial break, but you should follow our podcasts on social media!  Oh, and  you should listen to our podcasts!  We have lots of topics, so hopefully you can find one you like.  Here is the website, please check it out!

UFOs

Oh man, it was Take Your Dog to Work Day and we missed it!  Poor Chalupa and Tallulah had to stay home.  Next year maybe I'll stay home and sleep all day and send them to work with the hubby!  Today is also World UFO Day, so clearly we need to look at some UFO shoes.

Awww...baby UFO shoes are kind of cute.  The last two pairs could also be tops if you didn't want your baby wearing alien vessels on his or her feet...

I'm scared.  These are hideous. And also hilarious.  But mostly hideous because even the shoes without the UFO stuff are ugly.

Well you know I love the color.  Yes, I know, not shoes, but still fun!

Oh my goodness, there has to be some kind of crazy, kitschy party where these shoes could be worn.  With a skirt or dress that also has UFOs on it?  These are hilariously ridiculous.

I saw zero UFOs today (except on shoes).  How about you?

Today, despite the lack of UFO sightings, was much better than yesterday.  Part of my problem is that I'm not taking care of myself physically, which leads to mental and spiritual fatigue as well.  I'm not working out, not eating right, drinking too much soda, sitting at my desk too much, etc.  I sleep like the dead, but never feel rested, so then I get grumpy and moody.  Today I decided that I need to make some changes.  Well, I've known this forever, but haven't been able to muster up any kind of willpower to make the changes.  Today I decided that every time I went to the bathroom (which is not in our office, but in a different part of the building) I would then walk all the way around the building.  Kind of pathetic I know, but it gets me up and moving, which helps both mentally and physically.  And since the one thing I generally do fairly well is hydration, I go to the restroom on a fairly regular basis.  So it gets me away from my desk and gives me a little mental break.  According to my phone it's about 500 steps around the building, so 20 trips to the bathroom and I'll hit my 10,000 steps a day!

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014 (this says June 25, but it was one of those just-past-midnight posts). 2015.

Seminary

According to a friend's post on Facebook today we graduated from seminary 9 years ago.  Like my auntie said, it doesn't seem like 9 years until I see how how little Double A was in the pictures. She was 7 in 2007 and her birthday present was to get to go to graduation with Mom and Dad.  Actually, she couldn't have cared less about graduation. The real birthday present was that graduation was in the Bay Area which meant she got to see the Golden Gate Bridge.  She was obsessed with the Golden Gate Bridge and you should have seen how excited she was to visit it, walk on it, drive across it, etc.  It was adorable.  Anyway, 9 years.  Time flies.  I'm going with an anagram post tonight because it's time for bed and I didn't want to do anything too elaborate (and I still have to run the dishwasher and upload another podcast, blah).  I graduated from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary:

P is for Pacific and purple.

L is for Lutheran and lime green.

T is for Theological and teal.

S is for Seminary and silver.

Holidays!

Last night I had a sleepover with Double A, The Bean, Flower, Laughter, Pippi and Tink.  Mom's house was a bit crowded, but it just made it more cozy.  Today they were all on hand so we could do Holidays!  For those of you unfamiliar, this is the day when we do a whole bunch of holidays in one day while I'm home because I miss most of them with the kiddos during the year.  For Easter we dyed eggs and then had an Easter egg hunt in the yard.  Then we did Fourth of July with leftover smoke bombs and snaps that the brother brought over.  Lunch was a Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and stuffing followed  by a birthday celebration for everyone with cupcakes and candles.  After lunch we did Halloween with face paint and Trick-or-Treating at various doors (usually we do this outside, but today it was pouring down rain so we did it inside).  Last we did a St. Patrick's Day treasure hunt to find the gold that the Leprechaun hid.  Hopefully a good time was had by all.  Mom and I were fairly tired afterwards, but I had fun.  Here are the shoes everyone wore today:

The Bean and Double A's matching fleep flops.

Tink's whole outfit was that crazy color combination, plus these fun, colorful shoes that light up.

Laughter.  I think these are adorable.

Flower.  She's siting next to me and says these shoes are oooooold.  But look at her cute polka dot socks!

I love Pippi's colorful laces.

Today was another awesome day with the fam.  Laughter, Flower, The Bean and Double A are staying the night again, so that will be fun.  And slightly less crowded.

Silver and Gold

I decorated our 2nd tree tonight when I got home.

This is the silver and gold tree that goes in the living room.  I think I like the red and green tree I did last night a little better.  And this one is actually prettier in person than it is in the picture.  At any rate it's starting to get a little more festive around here even though we're both having trouble getting into the holiday spirit this year.  This tree also gave me a theme for tonight's post:

Silver and gold shoes, of course!   You know I can't resist the sparkle.

I'd like these better with a little higher heel.  I like the flower, though.  This is another pair of shoes that needs a place in my imaginary 50s musical closet.

These actually need a slightly lower heel.  (I know you're shocked I would say such a thing.)

Another pair of shoes the hubby will never wear...

More sparkle.  I like the shape of this, it's really interesting.

I actually have this pair of shoes, or one really really similar.

Festive!

I would laugh a lot of the hubby actually wore this pair of shoes.  Then I would put on my gold, sparkly shoes and we would go do something fancy.  Or maybe we would stay home and watch Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer so we could sing the silver and gold song while wearing our silver and gold shoes in front of our silver and gold Christmas tree.  Hey, if you're going to have a theme you may as well embrace it.

Pinstripes

I received a text from my aunt the other day with the following message:  "You can pinstripe anything.  [Your uncle] and I went to a car show and saw these."  She sent 2 pictures in illustration.

They're actually pretty cool, and inspired me to go find some more.

I love these.  Of course the fact that they started off as shiny, red patent leather certainly doesn't hurt.

These are cool, too.  I love the colors of the pinstriping.

Very pretty, and although more detailed, they don't seem quite as well done as the ones before?  I still like them, though.

Is that supposed to be...marijuana?  Maybe I'm just over-thinking it.  I like the green accents on the pink, but I wouldn't want people staring at my feet wondering what kind of a statement I was making.

There were some other examples I found, but apparently, like tattoos, pinstriping can get creepy quickly, and I just wasn't in the mood for skulls and eyeballs and other weird stuff tonight (possible marijuana shoes notwithstanding).

Thanks, Auntie, for the inspiration!  Hope you are having/had a fabulous visit with your brother!

More Birthday

I tried to post yesterday, but our internet was wonky and I couldn't do it.  I wanted to show you the awesome shoes my parents gave me for my birthday:

I opened these first and wore them on my birthday.  I've gotten a little addicted to this orangey coral color lately.

These were second and wow to the brightness!  Actually, these arrived on Thursday, addressed to the hubby (who was still in Mom's address book from Christmas).  She sent me a text to let me know the package was coming, but they arrived before I got the text and could tell the hubby, so he opened the box.  I think his exact words were, "why did we get weird ass shoes in the mail?"  He actually liked them once I put them on yesterday, so he is now forgiven for insulting the shoes.  Are they crazy?  Yep!   But they're also awesome.

I also didn't show you the calendar shoe from my birthday:

It's actually pretty fun.  Usually the weekend ones are some kind of crazy that I'm forced to look at for 2 days, but I was pleasantly surprised for my birthday.

Speaking of birthday (and I'm going to drag this out for as long as possible), SDK took me out for sushi yesterday to celebrate, and then we went and wandered around DSW for awhile.  Neither of us bought anything, but we enjoyed looking and trying on.

Tomorrow, gifts from the BFF!
