Continued

I have no idea where today went, but it whooshed by at a ridiculous speed.  So now it's late and I'm going to do a quick post before I go to bed.  I recently finished a blankie, shoes, and a hat for a friend of ours who is having a baby in October:

Pedro, as always, was my very helpful model for the hat.  I love this yarn, it's really soft and nice.  The fact that it's several shades of blue doesn't hurt, either.  Since I did little girl shoes last night, I thought I'd do little boy shoes tonight.  Plus, I made some little boy shoes, so there is a double tie-in.

For some reason I had trouble finding shoes I liked tonight.  I really like all of these (especially the first 2), but I was hoping for a little more variety.   Although I do have to say that the caterpillar (at least I think it's a caterpillar?) croc totally cracks me up.  Or maybe it crocks me up.  Ha!  Yes, fine, I'm going to bed.

And Also With You

Happy Star Wars Day!  I have always loved Star Wars and am very happy that this is a holiday, even if I haven't had time to watch anything Star Wars-y today.  The day started with me getting Double A and The Bean up for school as they spent the night last night (yay) since I left today (boo).  Turns out I'm THAT mom (auntie) who drops her kids (nieces) off at school wearing her pajamas and slippers.  They were fed and dressed and had their homework, I just wasn't exactly put together.  I even got out of the car for good-bye hugs which meant people witnessed my lovely, bra-less attire.  The kiddos didn't seem to care, though.  After I finished packing and actually showered and dressed, Mom, Dad and I headed off to the seester's and from there we went to Flower's school for her 4th grade school program.  She was awesome!  She was a pirate in the show, which was all about pirates, but even more awesome, she was in a special choir called Kids in Motion that is comprised of 3-5 graders.  AND even more awesomer, she is also part of the Junk Band, which is a percussion group that uses things like buckets and garbage cans, etc.  She was so good, and it was so fun!  Also, she was totally the cutest pirate in the whole show.  After a couple of hours hanging out with the fam it was time to head to the airport.  Sigh.  I'm currently in the Salt Lake airport, having completed the first part of my journey.  I have a 3 hour layover and free wi-fi, so thought I'd do a quick post.  I'm so lucky and blessed to have had 2 weeks at home with my family, but it always tears me apart a little bit to leave.  I miss the hubby and am looking forward to seeing the puppies and dragons, but I hate leaving the fam.  Yes, I am a 41 year old woman who wants her mommy.  And her siblings, and auntie, and nieces.  I love being with them.

Back to Star Wars Day.  Part of the reason I was less than put together for school drop-off this morning was because the girls wanted Star Wars hair for school.  I am not great at doing my own hair, let alone someone else's, but we watched some Youtube tutorials last night and came up with the following:

The Bean has Rey's hair from The Force Awakens.

Double A has Princess Leia's Cloud City hair from The Empire Strikes Back.  I thought they turned out pretty well considering I have no experience and we only decided last night to give it a shot.

That was the hair, let's look at shoes!

Our friends at Irregular Choice even have Star Wars shoes!  Poor R2-D2 is being stepped on.

The artwork isn't great on these (although WAY better than I could ever do), but I like that they're of the newest movie.

Awww...BB-8 is adorable, as are these shoes, although BB-8 seems implied rather than explicit.  Maybe he's on the other side.

Ooooh...the bad guys!

These crack me up.  So very romance-movie-esque!

I know 2 of these are the same as the first picture, but now you can see Yoda (whose head is also being stepped on), and because this led me to this page which is 14 pairs of Irregular Choice Star Wars Shoes.  You should go look.  No really.  Go look.  And May the Fourth be With You!

My Poor Hairbrush

The handle snapped off my hairbrush about a week ago.  I continue to use it until I can get another one, but every morning I find myself singing The Hairbrush song from Veggie Tales Silly Songs with Larry:

It's a classic for a reason!  I've done one other Veggie Tales post, but it only had 2 pairs of shoes, so here are some more:

God DID make you special, and now you can have shoes to remind you!

I'm not a huge fan of crocs, but I like the little attachment thingy (I'm sure there's a name for it, but I have no idea what it is).

Slippers!  But I don't know how I feel about shoving my foot into Larry's mouth.  Aren't I supposed to put my foot in my own mouth, or at least try to avoid that?

The PB needs these.  Potential Nana, can you get on that?

Then the PB can become a toddler and have these!

But I want these!  Hmmm...2 pairs of yellow high tops in 2 days.  What am I trying to say?

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014.

3 Things:
  1. An amazingly lovely and helpful woman at the bank today who helped make a crappy and annoying situation better.  She was my hero and now I love her.
  2. I wore my awesome coral shoes today.  The happy color helped cheer me up.
  3. A hilarious conversation with our 16 year old intern who was fascinated by long distance calls.  It started when we were talking about toll-free numbers and he said, "wait, are there numbers that are toll...full?"  Party lines just about blew his mind.

Grouch

Most of today was really good.  SKD's son graduated from high school last week, and his graduation party was this afternoon.  The hubby had to work, but the puppies and I got to go hang out at a lovely spot by the river for a couple of hours, and it was really really nice.  Then we met a friend for coffee and I got to meet his mom, who is absolutely wonderful, and we had a great conversation.  So it was a really good day until the drive home when my contact on the call committee I interviewed with called to say they are going with another candidate.  I'm not completely surprised, but I'm still disappointed.  I hate the call process.  I know it's not like this for everyone, but for me it's just an exercise in constant disappointment.  In think in the 3 times I've been in the process I've interviewed something like 15 times and been rejected 13.  It's hard, and I immediately wanted to curl up and sleep for a week (yay depression!), but that would have been a really bad idea as I was driving.

Moving on.  Did you know it was National Go Barefoot Day today?  Pretty awesome for barefootedness.  Not as helpful for a shoe blog.   But, it was also Oscar the Grouch Day!  And since that works for the latter half of my day, I'm going with it.

This last one cracks me up a lot.  Who would wear these?  Or who could wear these without giggling at their own feet all day?  Maybe I need a pair for the grouchy days so I can giggle at my feet.  I wouldn't wear them out of the house as I'd be too embarrassed, but a pair of giggle shoes might be just the thing.

It's Awesome Having an Intern

It's late, I'm tired, my head is pounding and my laptop needs to be plugged in.  But the puppies are giving me guilt about posting.  It's amazing how effective they are at this while sleeping next to me and looking adorable and innocent.  Pinterest Friend to the rescue!  Or, as I like to think of her, my intern.  My unpaid intern who can't even put this on a resume, so clearly this title is for my ego rather than her benefit (sorry, PF).  But I digress.  Here is a sampling of her recent findings:

These first 2 are just funny to me, for very different reasons.

I'm not sure what's going on here.  2 different shoes, but with similar motifs?  I like the closest one, even though that is a crazy large something on the top there.  I think I like the other, but can't really tell.  And there might be a third in the back?

The first pair is kind of cute.  The second pair less so.  But seriously, people:  PUT DOWN THE GLUE GUN!

This is true.  The end.

I agree with the last line.  Could someone please make this happen?  I'd be there right now.

Good night.  Watch out for guilt tripping puppies.

Thoughts on a Monday Night

It sucks to slice up fruit with a cardboard cut on my finger.

For that matter, it sucked when I got the cardboard cut on my finger.

Tonight I called the hubby a man baby and then started singing man baby to the tune of Matchmaker from Fiddle on the Roof. Probably yet another reason why I need therapy.

When the hubby says, "bad dog" to the puppies they run outside because they know they are in trouble. When I say it they run to me thinking it's clearly treat time.

Now time for some Monday shoes.

Those are definitely weird. I don't think they would help me get Monday started so much as they would make me want to go back to bed and hide from them.

Hee hee. This one just makes me giggle.

So. These last three are from something called Cheap Monday Shoes. I'm not sure if the shoes are cheap or Monday is somehow cheap, but the shoes are very odd.

These wouldn't be horrible if the strap wasn't Velcro. WHY is the strap Velcro?

Also Velcro. Kitten heels and Tevas had a baby. You really should click on the link above and go check out more shoes. Some are kind of cute. Many are not.

One final thought: between bearded dragon poop and puppy toots today was a very stinky day. You're welcome for that final thought.

Thanksgivukkannivesary

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you are enjoying a lovely day of feasting, family, and friends.  But hopefully not feasting ON family and friends.  Because that's just awkward.  The hubby and I will be spending the day with some friends, and while I miss my family terribly, it's nice to have somewhere to go and be in fellowship.  I'm wearing my turkey socks in honor of the occasion.  If you don't have any Thanksgiving-themed accessories, here are some shoes to enjoy:

These are all quite...festive.  I like the middle two the best, I think.  Baby shoes are almost always adorable, and I like the ribbon laces in the third pair.

Today is also the first time in something like 700 years that Hanukkah falls on Thanksgiving (it actually started last night, so this is the 2nd day).  I keep seeing it referred to as Thanksgivukkah, and hearing reference to sweet potato latkes.  Sounds yummy to me.  In honor of my Jewish friends (I don't think I have any Jewish readers, but if I do, Hi!), here are some Hanukkah shoes:

I love that there are baby shoes for nearly every occasion!

Oh dear.  This is rather tacky, isn't it?  Is this the Jewish equivalent of dog nativities?

Hmmmm....seems to be  theme.  Help me out, nonexistent Jewish readers, and let me know if I am missing something?

AND, today also happens to be our Parish Administrator's anniversary!  Since I was a very bad blogger/pastor and didn't do a birthday post for her, here are some plaid shoes in her honor:

Love these.  Want them for Christmas Eve service.

Awwww....see?  Baby shoes for every occasion!

See, PA?  I even gave ya some flats!

And finally, because holidays aren't complete for me without a little Snoopy:

Happy Thanksgiving/Hanukkah/Anniversary/whatever, everyone!

Bat Kid is My Hero

Did you watch or read the coverage today on Batkid?  If you didn't, you really should click on the link and watch the little 5 year old save Gotham City (AKA San Francisco).  Bat Kid is a 5 year old who has had Leukemia for the past several years, and this was his wish from the Make a Wish Foundation.  He got to save a damsel in distress and foil The Riddler in his attempts to rob a downtown bank.  It's a pretty amazing story.  Batbear Pedro was very impressed with his counterpart's crime fighting abilities.  In honor of this little superhero, here are some awesome Batman shoes for kiddos:

Thanks, Batkid for saving the day!  (and I'll take a pair of each of these shoes for the imaginary shoe closet and my imaginary kid...)
