Mismatched

Oh my goodness, today was National Two Different Colored Shoes Day and I didn't even know it!  Not that I could have celebrated as I am still in Montana and don't have many shoe options.  The thing with wearing 2 different shoes is that you have to make sure they have the same heel height so you don't tip over. You may remember I ran errands in mismatched shoes once, but it was by accident and not on the national day of celebration:

They're both Clarks and basically the same shoe, so I didn't notice I was wearing 2 different shoes until I got home.  Eye roll.  Let's look at shoes that were mismatched on purpose.

Blue!  I approve.

Awww.  Kids can get away with this look because people will just assume they dressed themselves and were being stubborn and/or quirky.  Adults just get looked at like they're having a senior moment.

Not my favorite combination, although I like both shoes individually.  And I think they have different heel heights, so this woman better not stand up and try to walk.

I actually kind of like this whole combination, pants, mismatched shoes, and all.

Mismatched but opposites!

I would wear this combination for Easter.

Today is my last full day in MT for this vacation.  Sigh.  I hate leaving.  I miss the hubby, but I hate leaving the babies.  I need to learn to teleport.

Smiles

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words of encouragement after my grumpy post the other night.  Yesterday was better, thank goodness, and today was also good, so I'm grateful for that.  Because   she is awesome and caring, the Pinterest Friend sent me a bunch of pins to cheer  me up on Monday night, this being one of them:

Aren't these happy?  The inspired me to go in search of more happy, smiley shoes.

Love these.  Want them for the canvas shoe collection.

This cracks me up.  I'd love to wear these under my alb.

The smiley faces are OK, but I lovelovelove those shoelaces in the yellow shoes.

For you happy flip flop lovers out there.

I don't particularly like the material these are made of, but like the different colors.

Oooh...stripes!  And very sweet faces.

Happy Jelly shoes!

I love tie-dye.  Usually I prefer straight tie-dye with no frills, but I'd still add these to the canvas shoe collection.

Will someone get me these?  Especially the second one from the left?  Thanksloveya.

Thanks again for restoring a fraction of my faith in humanity.  Lots of people still suck, sadly, but I'm grateful to be surrounded by amazing, loving, fantastic friends.

Confused

I know I've lived here for 3 years now so it should be getting better, but the school schedule still confuses me.  School started here on July 26th, which is crazy early.  So school is going, the church preschool started the following week, we are doing all kind of Fall programming stuff at church.  But it's only August 8th.  Some schools don't start for another month.  My brain keeps thinking it's Fall, and then I look at the calendar and remember it's actually Summer.  I read things on Facebook and wonder, why aren't those kids in school?  Oh right...they don't have our crazy early schedule.

When I was little we would go back-to-school shopping, which meant several new combinations of outfits for the new year.  My poor mom had to deal with my whiney self, but I loved getting new clothes, and planning which outfit I would wear for the first day of school.  Whenever I ask the nieces what they are wearing for the first day they usually respond that they don't know yet, haven't thought about it.  WHAT???  How can you not have that planned?  Apparently this is just one more example of how I was a weird child.  I can't actually think of any of the outfits that I wore for a first day, but I do know they were awesome and fashionable (at least in my own head).

Things I remember about shoes growing up:  When I was getting ready to go into Kindergarten the teacher told me I needed to learn to tie my own shoes.  Apparently I informed her that I needed to do no such thing because I would just wear my buckle shoes.  They would have looked something like this:

I generally had a pair of white or black Mary Janes for dress shoes.  Of course, kids now wouldn't have to worry about buckles as they have Velcro.  I remember when Velcro shoes became popular.  They were definitely boxier than they are now.

But they were oh-so-cool.  No laces!  Cool ripping noise!  The above were not my shoes.  Again, I can't remember exactly what my Velcro shoes might have looked like.  I had a wonderful childhood, and have still managed to block large chunks of it.  I do remember jelly shoes, though!

I had a purple pair during the phase when purple was my favorite color.  And I think I wore them with purple corduroy pants?  Looking back that seems like an un-seasonal combination, but I was a stubborn kid.  In fact, I think it was a whole purple outfit:  purple jellies, purple corduroy pants, and a purple eyelet shirt that my mom made me.  The shirt was belted, of course.  I'll have to go look and see if I can find a picture of that particular combination.

Anyway, whenever you start back to school, I hope you or your kids or nieces or nephews have an outfit already planned.  Oh, and maybe buy some school supplies.  Whatever.

Jelly Memories

Hey, remember these?

Source

I used to have a purple pair.  I have fainted once in my life, and pretty much the only thing I remember is waking up and staring at my purple jelly shoes.  At any rate, the first thing I thought of when I saw the calendar this morning was jelly shoes:

They are sturdier than jelly shoes, kind of the grown up version maybe.  But they still look like they would make your feet sweat. Out of curiosity I googled them to see how much they cost.  They might be plastic, but I figured they weren't cheap, and I was right.  The original price was $120 on the site I looked at.  The site also had quite a lengthy description:

"This is the perfect shoe for the fall, mixing practicality with sensual style and is perfect for day or night. The slash detailing, hidden platform and side Velcro closure make it the perfect comfortable shoe that you can wear anywhere.
Like all Melissa shoes, the Believing bootie is crafted in Brazil, using the unique Melflex technology. This injected thermoplastic easily molds around your feet to give you the most comfortable fit possible.

I still think they aren't terribly attractive (despite my fond memories of fainting in my jelly shoes), but I do like that a lot of thought went into them, and it's cool that they are recycled and recyclable.  I'm still betting they make your feet sweat, though.
