Inner Child

I'm taking a quick bread from podcast prep (I am soooo very behind) to write a quick post.  The world continues to be a $h!+ storm of depressing news and violence, and I am so tired of the people who polarize around these issues instead of mourning the loss of life and looking for ways to be voices of love and light in the world.  Thank goodness I also have friends who are eloquent and willing to speak their truths in ways that are loving and respectful because I spend a lot of time on Social Media these days for the office and it's all overwhelming.  So.  Today is Be a Kid Again Day, which I think sounds fabulous.  We should all try to find out inner child because children aren't born racist or hateful or wanting to polarize every issue, we have to teach them how to do those things.  Sigh.  So maybe we all need to access our inner children and get back to that place where people are people and we find them fascinating and wonderful instead of different and scary.  Or maybe we should just give ourselves a  time out and look at kid shoes:

Look at how cute these are!  I love that pink is represented, but so are lots of other colors.  My inner girl child likes more options than just pink.

Like red and white and polka dots!  Not that you'd see the polka dots once you put your feet in.

See?  Pink is OK, but I love the sparkly stripey rainbowy parts best.

Yellow is always a good choice for Easter.  Or tiara tea parties.  Or Tuesday.

Plus you need tennies for climbing trees and stuff.

Adorbs.

Both this and the last one are perfect for if you want to be girly AND climb trees and stuff.

For my green peeps.  Your inner children need shoes too.  Alright, back to work and then off to bed.

Happy Birthday, Tink!

Today Tink turned 7!  All of my babies need to stop growing up so fast, please.  To celebrate, here are some more shoes named after someone I love:

Burgundy velvet Mary Janes.  Love them.

Blue Mary Janes with sparkly heels! The heels on both of these are thicker than I usually like, but I don't mind it with these particular shoes.  And, bigger heels mean easier balancing

Same shoe, shorter heel.   I still like it, but like the first one better.  They also had the burgundy shoe in this style.

I like this shoe, even though it reminds me of a nightgown.

This one is interesting.  I don't hate it, but the detailing is a little off.

I like this as long as it doesn't go over the knee.  I have an aversion to boots that go over the knee.  Free the knees!

I don't usually like this style of shoe, but I have to admit that I love this one.  Tink certainly has some cute shoes named after her!

Once again, Happy Birthday, Tink!  I'm so happy to have you in my life.  You are a sweet  and amazing young woman, and I'm very lucky that your mama let's me claim you as my niece when she could just think I was some creepy adult who is way too in love with her children.

PS--today is also Chocolate Cake Day.  How lucky is Tink to have her birthday on Chocolate Cake Day?!

Rings and Shoes

I've always loved rings.  Even as a kid I wore rings, and loved trying on my mom's wedding rings, and playing with the rings in my grandma's jewelry box.  I still love trying on rings of all kinds of shapes and sizes, although since getting married I mostly only wear my wedding rings (gaining weight has something to do with that, too).  Anyway, one of my birthday presents combined 2 of the things I love:  rings and shoes:

Sunshine's grandma gave me this cool shoe-shaped ring holder at my birthday party last weekend (and yes, I have managed to stretch this birthday thing out for almost 2 weeks), isn't it pretty?  The top ring was a gift from St. Someone's preschool director.  It's paste sapphire and diamonds, so goes with my wedding set (I love costume jewelry...I live in fear of losing my wedding rings).  Next down is a ring that belonged to my mama (don't worry, she gave it to me, I didn't swipe it from her jewelry box).  And second from the bottom is my grandmother's class ring that she gave me before she died and which is very dear to my heart.   The others have stories as well, but those 3 were gifts.  I have other rings still in my jewelry box.  I really need to start wearing them more.

So I went in search of more shoe shaped ring holders, and found plenty.  I love these with the polka dots and color coordinated bows and insides.

I'm not much of an animal print fan, but some of you are, so these are for you.

Oooooh....plaid!  And rickrack.  There's not enough rickrack in my life.

Very princessy.  In fact I love how all of these look like stairs.  I can just picture Cinderella running down the stairs and losing her shoe.  Is that too weird of a leap in thought process?

These last two are exactly the same only different.  Does your family say that?  They're very sweet and girly.

That's my story for the night.  Oh, and my "news" for the day is that I went to the gym for the first time in approximately 2,743 years.  It was time.  It sucked.  It wasn't that bad.  I hated it.  I'm glad I went.  I have a love/hate relationship with the gym.  Thank goodness for audiobooks that make the treadmill more bearable.

Oh, one final thing:  Sunshine's grandma is way more than just Sunshine's grandma (it's just an easy way to identify her).  She's my friend and a wonderful supporter from St. Someone's, and pretty darn fantastic in just about every way.  The fact that's she's Sunshine's grandma is just a delightful bonus.

Blues and Greens

Today is Ash Wednesday, and normally I talk about big days in the church.  But not tonight.  I just can't do it tonight for a lot of long and boring and complicated reasons.  I wrote about it last year, so if you want, you should go read that for more of my thoughts on the day.  In the meantime, the Pinterest Friend has once again been busy sending me fun shoes.  I'm going to share those tonight because they cheer me up.

We start with my favorite color (of course).  These are so stinkin' cute.  I love everything about them.

I feel like I've posted these before?  Not actually sure on that.  Maybe just something similar.  These look like a garden party to me.  Not that I've ever been to  a garden party.  And wouldn't wearing these mean you would keep sinking into the ground?  Hmmm....they also remind me of Easter.  I get Easter.  Let's go with that.

Mom, Seester, Double A and SKD...March is your month!  So much green, so little time!  I really like these.  Not sure I'm in love with that particular green, or what I would wear it with, but I love the shape of these shoes.  I really need to find me a pair in this shape one of these days.

These are weird.  But a beautiful color and texture.  They also crack me up because they are both peep toe AND peep ankle!  But look!  A slingback I might actually be able to keep on my foot!  For that alone I might have to love these.  I'm also pretty sure this came from a shoe calendar.   You can just see parts of the stand at the bottom and on the left.

Good night.  Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
