Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!  Whether you are a biological mom, adoptive mom, foster mom, Godmother, motherly, or have a mother, I hope you found a way to celebrate today!  For those of you for whom today is hard, because of infertility, loss of a child, loss of your mother, or an unhealthy or unhelpful relationship with your mother, please know you aren't alone, that you are loved, and I hope today wasn't too painful for you, or if it was you had a good support system.  My prayers are with you, and I would give you a hug if I could.

I am extremely grateful for the moms in my life.  My mom, my mother-in-law, my Godmother (who is also my auntie!), the moms of my nieces and nephew (one of whom is my seester!), and lots of mothering-types who have been there throughout my life.  I am thankful for each and every one of you.

I was a terrible daughter today, though.  I did at least call my mom today.  But, I have a gift for, have had it for months...but haven't sent it to her.  I wrote her a poem...but haven't finished it.  I feel like the kid in Mercer Mayer's book Just For You.  Hopefully mom still loves me in my failure (actually I know she does, it's one of the reasons she is awesome and I am lucky).  I will try to do better in the daughter department, though.

In the meantime, here are some shoes to celebrate the day:

Yum!  Neither the dragons nor the puppies thought to get me lollipops with shoes on them.  Silly babies.  Oh wait...that's just karma for my own Mother's Day failures!

This is true.  I wouldn't trade my mom in for all the shoes in the world.

I think I've posted these before, but I still like them.  I would wear them on Mother's Day and July 12 and January 11 and November 27 and September 25, for a start (those are all birthdays of the people I mentioned above).

I have no idea why these came up in a search for "mother's day shoes," but they did.  They are odd, but I like the colors.  I don't think I would wear them, but still, the colors are fun.

So, once again, Happy Mother's Day!  I hope your day was full of love.

Puzzling

I've been doing Christmas puzzles on my Kindle this week.  I'm terrible at actual puzzles, but quite enjoy them on my kindle.  Each puzzle can be done with 35, 70, 140, 280, or 630 pieces.  I usually do the first three.  I've done one puzzle with the 280 pieces, and I haven't even attempted the 630 pieces because the screen on my kindle is tiny and I don't even think I could see the pieces.  Tonight's shoes are puzzle inspired.

I like all of these, although the first one is my favorite.  I think I could maybe do the last one. It's only 500 pieces.  Maybe.  Did I mention that I'm terrible at real puzzles?

These last 3 are all from Zazzle.  CHRISTMAS shoe puzzles!  I think Zazzle is my spirit animal.  If only I could actually afford to shop there.

I keep thinking of this quote as I'm puzzling.  Thankfully my puzzler has yet to get sore from the puzzling.  Probably because I skip the 630 piece option.

Phones

Today I am thankful for the technology that allows us to keep in touch with our families.  We always call both sets of parents on Sunday mornings and it has become one of my favorite parts of the week.  Now, granted, telephones have been around for quite a long time, but I'm still happy we have the ability to talk to parents in Ohio and Montana when we live in California.  Plus, technology has enabled us to do this for a lot less nowadays.  (On a side note, I think I mentioned a while back that our high school intern was shocked and appalled when he found out that you used to have to pay by the minute for long distance.  Party lines almost made his head explode.  Heehee).  Tonight's shoes with their phone themes:

This is funny to me for many reasons: The style, the cord, the fact that it's a phone shaped like a shoe.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on here.  I saw something about Lady Gaga?  But, they are shoes with a phone, so I went with it.

OK, this is tacky and I totally want it.

I have this!  Sort of...mine only has half a pair to hold my phone.  It's also in storage with the rest of my office stuff.

A little too much pink.  If this had more color, or just more blue, I would totally want it.

Heehee.  Hilarious.  Also, why?

I'm thankful that we're able to talk to our parents every week.  Now, if we could just learn to apparate, or maybe find some floo powder somewhere I would be really happy!

Liqueur, Anyone?

Today was a good day. First, it's been raining off and on all weekend, which for drought-ridden California has been delightful.  Second, I had lunch with some dear friends from St. Someone's whom I haven't seen in way too long, and that was even more delightful.  Third (and this is really only for segue purposes and not so much why today was good), it's National Liqueur Day.  I don't drink much at all anymore, so it's not that terribly exciting, except for this:

Liqueurs in shoe shaped bottles!  I have no desire to drink the contents, but think how fun these would look on a window sill.  Someone else can drink the liqueurs, an then I'll just fill them with colored water and use them as decoration.  Who wants to work on that for me?

J-E-L-L-O

Apparently today is National Dessert Day?  I figure that's every day, but it's nice to know when the designated holiday is.  You know I'm all about the chocolate desserts, but I'm kind of bored with chocolate shoes right now, and for some reason today I was thinking about Jello.  Must be Lutheran thing.  At any rate, it got me to go look for Jello shoes, and there aren't a lot out there, which is bad for a post, but good for the general state of the world.

This is an actual pair of shoes made out of Jello.  There was also a picture of a woman who had supposedly just fallen over from attempting to walk in these.  Jello shoes are weird enough, but WHY would someone attempt to walk in them?

This makes more sense in terms of Jello shoes.

Hey, look!  There's a Jello Shoe Company!  I'd like that shoe better if it were all yellow, I think.  Or maybe if it had a different heel.  I went to the website but didn't spend a lot of time poking around on it.

Not Jello, but the sole kind of looks like Jello, and I like how bright and happy they are.  Except that the sole would get dirty and then I would be sad.

Actual shoe-shaped Jello molds.  I'm honestly not sure what to say about this it kind of creeps me out and I have no idea why.

Cute!  Could be used for Jello or chocolate, and doesn't creep me out, so it seems a good place to end.

Please honor this (totally made up, probably) national holiday and go eat some dessert!

Milk Chocolate

Today is National Chili Dog Day, National Hamburger Day, and National Milk Chocolate Day.  You know which direction I'm going to go:

Milk Chocolate WOODEN shoes?  They should have rethought that from a marketing perspective.

Chocolate shoes in a box shaped like a purse!

If someone really really really loved me they would buy me some milk chocolate shoes to celebrate this historic day.  I'm just sayin'.

Social Media

Today is Social Media Day.  It could be argued that EVERY DAY is social media day, but this is the one specifically set aside. I used to be on social media a decent amount, but since we launched the podcast network some days I feel like it has taken over my life.  All of our 19 shows each have their own Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Google+ pages.  It's very confusing.  Thankfully the interns are starting to take some of the updating on, so maybe my brain will solidify out of its pudding-like state some day in the near future.  Of course I went in search of social media shoes, and actually was surprised there were so many options:

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why any of these are necessary, especially the baby shoes.  You know I love me some baby shoes, but these are over the top.  I do like the picture above the baby shoes, though, because those are actually icons for your desktop.  I should see if I can find how to put those on my computer.  The rest?  Eh...only if I worked at an actual social media job.  Which I guess I kind of do, so maybe I should get some shoes for the office?  The tennies would be more practical for all of the walking I'm trying to do.  Which, by the way, is going well!  I hit 10,000 steps yesterday for the first time since the 80s (isn't hyperbole fun?).  I'm also drinking a TON of water, which helps in that I then have to go to the bathroom every 30 seconds and thus get more walking in.  Good times.

PS--sorry for the commercial break, but you should follow our podcasts on social media!  Oh, and  you should listen to our podcasts!  We have lots of topics, so hopefully you can find one you like.  Here is the website, please check it out!

Happy Birthday, Sister-in-Law!

Today is the hubby's seester's birthday!  I can safely say she is my favorite sister-in-law since she is my only one.  But she's also pretty awesome, so I'm lucky in that department.  Unfortunately I realized today that I am a terrible person who doesn't know what kind of shoes her SiL likes.  Yep, it's true.  I lost major family points today and will now have to do a generic sort of post.  Sigh.  Here goes:

OK, so it's specific to a sister-in-law's birthday, but not in that I know what color she likes or what kinds of shoes she prefers.  But I still think it's cute.

These are interesting.  I guess if your SiL REALLY loves fleep flops then these would be the perfect gift.

Aaaaand 2 sister birthday cards.  Gaaaah, I'm having guilt over this whole SiL birthday thing!  I hope she had a good day despite me sucking and her not feeling well when we talked to her earlier. It's rude of her body to not feel well on her birthday.  I now have a year to complete the mission of finding out what kinds/colors of shoes my sister-in-law likes.

Podcasts

I had really good intentions to post this weekend, but life had other plans.  Sunday's plans involved seeing a friend from seminary who I hadn't seen for a couple of years so thahappy t was awesome.  Sadly she is here because her mom is having health issues, so while I was very to see her, I'm not happy as to why she was available to visit.  Also, what is up with the last 2 Sundays involving visits with friends whose moms (in law) are so sick?  Again, prayers and good thoughts are appreciated.  At any rate, I was very happy to see my friend.  And then I went to the office.  To be fair, I dropped the hubby at the office at 8 am, came home to get ready, drove to Turlock to hang out, then drove back to the office, where I worked for 4 hours, so while I did work on Sunday, the hubby worked for 13 hours.  Because he is crazy.  But then I was too tired to post when we got home.

I was also too tired to post on Saturday after 11 hours at the office, but this time it was my own fault.  Why you ask?  Well, thank you for asking, I will tell you:  The business has developed a national podcast network.  We currently have 19 shows with almost 100 episodes published.  It's really cool.  The hubby does the MMA and Fantasy Football podcasts and he asked me to do a Book Review and Bible Study podcast.  So Saturday I did my first episodes of each and learned how to edit them.  It took me 8 hours to produce 1 1/2 hours of podcasts.  I'm really hoping I get better at editing so it doesn't take so dang long.  It was actually fun to do, as well as being slightly terrifying.  It's more terrifying now as they went live today so now people can listen to them.  I half want lots of people to listen and half want no one to listen.

At any rate, since both podcasts involve books, I clearly need shoes.  I've done book shoes before, and these shoes specifically:

These are by Charlotte Olympia, and I still think they are really cool.  But it turns out they come in multiple colors!

Clearly I need as many colors as possible so I can wear them while I podcast about books!  AND there also...

Purses!  Book shoes and book clutches.  I'm in love.  I wonder if the hubby would let me buy these out of the office budget?

So, if you want to listen to either of the podcasts you can use the following links: Book Review, or  Bible Study.  Or, you can go here and check out all of our podcasts!

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014.

PS -  if you read this whole post thinking, "what the heck is a podcast?!"  I shall attempt to explain:  Podcasts are like radio shows.  In fact, many radio shows are also podcasts, like ESPN's Mike & Mike or NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.  Unlike radio shows, though, which air at a specific time, podcasts can be downloaded on a variety of devices and you can listen to them whenever you want and however many times you want.  I hope that helps.  The end.
