Adventures in Hair Dye

Double A helped The Bean and me dye our hair with blue kool-aid tonight.  The Bean did the ends of her hair, and I did a little bit of the underside of mine.  Mom took a picture of us lying on the dining room floor with our hair in cups to send to the hubby, who was understandably confused.  So I now have sort-of blue hair.  I tried to take a picture of it but you can't really see the color.  Maybe tomorrow if the sun comes out I can go outside and get a better picture.  Anyhoo, I was trying to decide what to do for tonight's post.  I've already done kool-aid shoes, and you're probably sick of me posting blue shoes, and the other variations I tried didn't produce anything.  I did look up blue shoes yet again and came across this:

I like them.  They're different and interesting.  These led to the following pair:

These are Badgely Mischka, so we're not going to talk about how much they probably cost, but they come in a bunch of different colors:

I think I've probably posted the blue version already, but hey, they match my hair!  Sort of.

So far we're going in reverse rainbow order.

I couldn't find yellow or orange so had to skip straight to red.  But, now I have Christmas colors next to each other!

And back to turquoise.  This might be closer to the color of my hair.  How do I know, it's on the back of my head.

I've slowed down on the sugar shock, but I'm still going.  I only made one thing yesterday and today.  Yesterday Mom and I made up a recipe using some of the ingredients leftover from other things, and today I made peanut butter cups that are quite yummy.  So that's 8 kinds of cookies/candy/whatever so far.  I might need a 12 step program.

50th Wedding Anniversary

Today is my parents' 50th wedding anniversary.  They didn't want a big party, but we celebrated with family and had family pictures taken.  They decided rather than cake we would have pie, which turned into a pie contest.  There were 7 pies:  pecan (me), cottage cheese (sounds weird, but it's super good, it's my dad's mom's recipe) (brother), ugly (actual name - comes from a children's book) (Laughter), coconut cream (Flower), mince meat (with actual meat, so traditional) (Doulble A), banana coconut cream (The Bean), and French silk chocolate (Auntie).  They were all quite yummy, and everyone "won" because Mom and Dad, as the judges, didn't want to choose, so everyone won in their own category.  Mine won for "best" pecan pie, etc.  Silly parents!

My cousin sent this shoe on Facebook today as an anniversary celebration:

Aren't they pretty and celebratory?

50th anniversary is gold, so I went looking for gold wedding shoes.

Their wedding colors were peach and mint green, so peach and mint green wedding shoes.  We also wore peach and mint green for family pictures today.

Mom's wedding shoes!  And Dad's weddings shoes, for that matter.  Also, Mom and Dad.  And a bridesmaid.  And possibly my grandpa.  And some guy's elbow.  And someone's face, but I'm not sure who.  I'm tired, can you tell?

Today I am definitely thankful for family, especially my parents and their 50 years together.

From the Brain of the Bean

Tonight's post is brought to you by inspiration from the Bean because I couldn't come up with anything and I didn't take pictures of the kiddos' cute shoes today.  So she suggested I type in all of the nieces' names + shoes, and then she helped me pick a pair for each niece:

DJ.  She likes black, she's not terribly girly when it comes to shoes, and apparently she wants a Harley.

Double A.  These aren't real, they're for a doll, but she loves green.  She wouldn't actually wear these, though, because they have heels and she's strictly a flats girl.

The Bean chose cute sandals for herself, which is kind of funny as she loooooves heels.

Flower.  We like the colors.  Not sure if they look like Flower or not.

Laughter didn't have a lot of choices.  These were the best of the bunch.  At least they're blue!

Speaking of blue, Pippi gets awesome blue wedding shoes.

This is actually a little sedate.  Tink loves color and crazy patterns, but The Bean and I thought this was really cute.

And that's it from Montana.  I'm tired and the 6 girls who are having a sleepover tonight are probably going to wake up much earlier than I am prepared for.

Penultimate

Today's post is highly inaccurate.  First of all, for some reason today it popped into my head that today is the penultimate day of my being 40.  It's not, because penultimate means second to last, so it was actually yesterday, with today being the last.  Second, I typed in "penultimate shoes" and chose a bunch I liked, but have no idea why they were labeled that way or what in the heck they have to do with being penultimate.

I love this.  It must be something about the color combination and detail.

Shoe art!  And cool, shiny, red Mary Janes.  Always good.

I like these in a weird way.  Love the colors.  Think they're all really odd.  Somehow those two things combined to have me liking them (although less so the middle pair).

Oh my gosh these are hilarious.  I think they color and shape are great, but the added cat faces make them quirky and awesome and hilarious.

I assume this is a wedding shoe.  I think I'd like it better if it were a color so the detailing would pop, but even white they are pretty fun.

I'm sure today is the penultimate something.  Let me know if you know of something.

Perfect?

Did you know that today is Everything You Do is Right Day?  I didn't even know this was a thing!  My day started with me oversleeping and having to scramble (while swearing) to get to the office in time to open up for the employees, so I feel like I screwed up right away for my chance at having a perfect day where everything I do is right.  This is kind of par for the course for me lately, though.  I've determined in the last week to stop writing so much on the blog about personal stuff and depression stuff and my own tendencies toward perfectionism because you all don't need to hear a constant stream of my crap, so I won't go into the details of this past week.  Instead, I typed in perfect blue shoes just to see what would come up.  I'll leave it up to you as to whether any of these are actually perfect, but I will say ooh la la to the first pair.  They gave me my first shoegasm in quite a long time!

Sigh.  I'd wear all of them.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014. 2015 (today is also National Artichoke day, but I figured one post on artichokes was more than enough).

3 Things:

  1. Making it to work on time and not breaking any traffic laws to do so.
  2. DJ completed another phase of her Naval journey today toward becoming a nurse, and she seems to be thriving.
  3. I survived yesterday without being betrayed or stabbed!

Purple-y Purple

Today is the 3rd Sunday in Lent and I have yet to do a Lenten Purple post.  Since I'm not leading worship anymore, I've stopped coordinating my shoes to the liturgical season, so I guess I'm less in tune with that stuff in terms of posts.  But today I will at least do one Lenten Purple post, which should make the BFF, The Bean, and Flower happy.

So purple-y!  I love the deep, rich color of these.

This looks almost exactly like my wedding shoes, only in purple.  So of course I'm going to have a certain fondness for it.

I don't care for booties, generally, and yet for some reason I kind of like this one.  I don't think I can pull off this particular style, but I'm sure someone out there can, and they need this.

Good color.  Interesting details.  And yet a little bit skanky-looking.

These would have been perfect for Wednesday worship in Lent.  I could have worn flats all day, and still had purple shoes for Wednesday evening worship.

Obviously the PF needs Lenten shoes!  These look so snuggly and warm.

And these are just cute. I would want the adult version and then we could be shoe twins.

So...even though I have failed thus far to do a Lent post, does it count that I'm at least drinking purple Crystal Light right now?  No?  Fine.

Memory Lane:  2013. 2014.  Apparently February 28 in years past is the day when I have posted crazy calendar shoes.

3 Things:
  1. Purple makes me think of some of my favorite people: the BFF, The Bean, and Flower.  I miss them all and wish they were here!
  2. The puppies got a bath today.  Once they dry off and settle down (they are total spazzes after a bath) they will be all soft and pretty smelling, and even better for snuggling.
  3. I've had doors and windows open the last 2 days, airing the house out.  It's still weird for me to be able to do this in February (despite 3 years in TX and 8+ years in CA), but it's lovely.

Wine

The hubby is such a marketer.  Last night he was sitting next to me as I wrote my post, and he saw the screen that shows the statistics for my blog.  Lately I've been averaging around 40 page views a day and he was perplexed.  "Why is that number so small?  Why don't more people read your blog?"  I could see the wheels turning and knew he was about to launch into work mode and Search Engine Optimization and a million other ideas.  I just said, "it's a silly shoe blog, I don't expect that many people to read it."  I get where he's coming from.  If this were something I was trying to make money from or trying to expand into something larger, then yes, of course I would do more with it and try to promote it more.  I've done the training, I know enough to get started, but it's not something I'm interested in.  And this was supposed to be a silly side note, so don't read anything into this paragraph, whether about the hubby, me, or the blog.

Moving on.  It's a screenshot kind of day:

Um...what?  I have so many questions, and so many possible snarky comments to make.  I'll hold back, though, and just talk focus on the fact that it's Drink Wine Day.  I don't drink much at all, but I do enjoy the occasional (half) glass of wine.  I like white over red, which did not endear me to the Zinfandel-growing folks at St. Someone, but oh well.  I don't really know much about wine, no matter how many tastings or tours I've done.  It all just seems to slide right out of my head and I can't remember it.  So for those of you who like, understand, appreciate, or are snobby about your wine, please try not to take offense at my shoe choices today.  I'm just trying to find fun shoes.

All of these were found by searching for different kids of wine + shoes.  This is the Merlot shoe, and I like it.  I'd maybe like ti better without the dots on the straps, but I'm not going to hold them against the shoe.

Champagne.  I'm guessing this is a wedding shoe.  It's a little more froofy than I typically like my shoes, but there are definitely occasions when a froofy shoe is called for.

Chardonnay.  These would have gone well with yesterday's post.  I'm not sure Chardonnay is actually this yellow, but what do I know?

Burgundy.  Love them.

Rosé.  So shiny!

And Riesling.  Which is one of my favorite wines.  See?  I'm totally not a good wine drinker.  I like the really sweet dessert wines.  BUT, maybe I would drink more wine and learn more about it if I could match my shoes to whatever I was drinking?

If you are a wine drinker, enjoy the day!  Actually, I hope you have an enjoyable day regardless of your wine drinking preferences, but you know what I mean.

Memory Lane:  2013. 20142015 actually has 2 posts because the one that should have been for the 17th got posted after midnight (you might remember my sleep schedule was all whacky back then).

3 Things:
  1. Good books.  I'm currently reading Call the Midwife and thoroughly enjoying it.
  2. The video of the nephew doing push ups.  His arms never move, but his butt sure does!  Cracks me up.
  3. The Lenten Photo-a-Day exercise I'm doing this year which has caused me to go through lots of my pictures which then means I get to see all of the adorableness of the nieces at various ages.
