Love is Love is Love

Happy Valentine's Day!  Whether you are in a relationship or not, I hope your day is full of love.  I know today is supposed to be about romantic love, but I say to heck with that.  The Beatles said "all you need is love," and I think that means whatever kind is available.  Romantic love?  Yep.  Familial love?  Awesome.  Platonic love?  Cool.  God's love?  The best.  Plus, any excuse to eat chocolate is OK in my book.  Here are some heart shoes to show the love:

No thank you.  This is all kinds of crazy.

But this one I love.  I would wear this if I still had the ability to wear heels!

Not bad.  I like the obvious theme.  I'm terrible with white shoes, though, and these would be filthy in no time.

They'd still be filthy, but I like these a little better, which is strange because I usually like red better than pink.

These are my favorite of this series, though.  I like the contrasts in colors.

I love the toe of this, but the rest of it is kind of meh.

Happy Valentine's Day!  I hope your day is full of love, whether you're single or in a relationship.  Also, regardless of relationship status, spread that love by telling people you love them!  I love you!  You are awesome and I am lucky to have you in my life!  Now.  Go eat some chocolate.

Watermelon

So, I've (mostly [sort of]) come to turns with the fact that I am not and never will be perfect.  But does the universe really need to come along and remind me just what a colossal eff up I am?  Today was one of those days, and it sucked.  It got a little better as the day went on, but this morning was not good, I felt terrible, I had major guilt, and sometimes my best doesn't even come close to being good enough.

Tonight I'm moving on and looking at watermelon shoes, because it's National Watermelon Day, even though I did them last year, too.  Besides, I love watermelon, and I don't feel like trying to figure out another theme.

I want to like these, and I'm 80% there, but something falls a little short for me, and I can't put my finger on what it is.

Tie-dye watermelon shoes!  And if they aren't actually tie-dye, I don't want to be disillusioned.

Wow.  And no.  Except, maybe?  They're so wacky they're almost fun.

Cute!

These are weird.  They're weirder when you realize they are knitted or crocheted coverings over booties.  Who comes up with this stuff?

We all needed a nice palate cleanser to round things out.

Now I wish I had some watermelon.  Why did I buy peaches when I went to the store earlier?!

Stars

Good grief, how is it August 1st already?  August 1st has quite a few holidays attached to it, including a couple that I talked about last year, but did you also know that today is Woman Astronomers Day? "Maria Mitchell was the first female professional astronomer, first woman to become a professor of astronomy, and the first woman to be elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts in 1918."  So in honor of Maria Mitchell and all women astronomer's (or women who shoot for the stars in one way or another), here are some space shoes:

I love all three of these and would wear them to space-related events.  Because I go to so many of them, you know.

I love neither of these.  Actually the designs are pretty but the shapes are terrible and I'm not going to wear them to any of my fabulous space-themed events.

These are a little bit crazy.  I will wear them to my dressier space-themed events.

So....who's going to invite me to a space-themed event?

Red Shoe Day

Today is International Red Shoe Day, which is a day of remembrance and which you can read more about by clicking on that link.  So here are some red shoes.  Because remembrances are good.  And I like red shoes.

I'm tired.  I'm tired of heat and I'm tired of headaches and I'm just tired in general.  So I'm leaving you with these (mostly) cute red shoes and taking my tired @$$ to bed.

Interns and Flannel and Piggies

My feet hurt.  A lot.  Today the hubby and I attended an end-of-the-year luncheon for mentors.  Our high school intern attends a charter school that requires all students to do an internships on Tuesdays and Thursdays at local business.  There are about 300 students at the school, so that's a lot of  internships and mentors.  And look, I got a certificate!

Yeah, I know you're jealous.  Anyway, I decided I should try to look as nice and professional as possible, so wore heels for the first time in absolutely forever.

The heels aren't even that high in the grand scheme of things, but my feet are so very mad at me, and poor little not broken but still very swollen piggy toe is VERY mad at me.

Can you see how swollen that little pinkie toe is?  Thankfully I brought flats to wear the rest of the day.

Even though they made my feet sad I still really like those gray flannel shoes and decided to go look for more.

I love this.  So very cute.

I kind of like this.  Yes, I know I'm probably weird.

Pretty much what I already have, just with a platform and higher heel.

THESE are the shoes I should have worn today.

This is weird and also maybe kind of cute?

T-straps!

I know gray flannel might not be the most exciting shoe material in the world, but I don't think these shoes are boring.  Tomorrow I'll be back to flats and hopefully my feet will forgive me.

New Charity Blues

Facebook reminded me that on this day last year I wrote a post about The Camp Friend's debut novel, Letters to Zell.  In other exciting news, her second book, New Charity Blues came out on my birthday!  Wasn't that nice of her to write me a book for my birthday?  Because I'm sure it's all about me!  I haven't had a chance to read it yet, as just like last time, every library book I had on hold suddenly became available.  I'm just about to finish the last one and return it, so I'll be able to get to my birthday present to myself soon.   Here is the synopsis of the book:

In the wake of a devastating plague, two communities emerge as bastions of survival. One is called the City, and its people scrabble for scraps in the wasteland. The other, New Charity, enjoys the bounty of its hydroelectric dam and refuses City denizens so much as a drop of precious water. When City-dweller Cressyda inherits her father’s ranch within New Charity, she becomes intent on opening the dam to all—no matter the cost.

But when Syd reunites with her old best friend, Casandra, a born seer and religious acolyte, she realizes that her plans could destroy the fragile lives they’ve built in order to survive. What’s more, the strange magic securing the dam’s operations could prove deadly if disturbed. Yet when Syd discovers evidence that her father might have been murdered, she is more determined than ever to exact revenge on New Charity’s corrupt.

Pitted against Cas, as well as her own family, Syd must decide how to secure the survival of both settlements without tipping them over the brink to utter annihilation. In this intense and emotional reimagining of the Trojan War epic, two women clash when loyalty, identity, community, and family are all put to the ultimate test.

Yay!  I can't wait to read it.  For tonight's post I typed in "new charity blues shoes" just to see what would come up.  Here are some selections of what came up.

Ooooh...purty.  These are a little like my wedding shoes, only way fanicer.

Simple, but cute.

Steel toe shoes would probably come in handy in a post-apocalyptic world. Or in a regular world where I live and trip over stuff.

I'm never sure I can pull this style off, but I think it's pretty.

These were actually for some kind of water charity, 3 out of the 4 search words were present.

I love the plaid, but most of the rest is a world of hell no.

Thank you, Camp Friend, for writing books!  I can't wait to read this one.

Tartans

I woke up this morning with an elephant on my chest.  It's a small elephant, so that's good, but I would have been happier with no elephant at all.  I think it's just allergies, but I would really like to go to bed.  If I have to have an elephant I may as well snuggle with it while napping!

In other news, today's list of holidays is quite impressive:

I especially like that it's National Day of Hope.  This seems especially appropriate for this week.  Jump Over Things Day cracks me up, and Kids Kick Butts Day concerns me a little.  For shoes, though, I'm going with National Tartan Day.  I'm sure you're not surprised.  There are all kinds of awesome (and crazy, of course) tartan shoes out there, but I've only chosen a few.

I've posted these before, but still love them.

I have several pairs of red shoes, but no red PLAID shoes.  Red plaid Mary Janes, at that.  I think I need a pair.

I might not be a huge fan of these particular bows, but I love the colors.

I wanted a green tartan, and I might actually kind of like this booty?  Has Tartan Day gone to my head?

I had to go look for baby shoes.  The 2nd picture is from a site that will make baby shoes in whatever tartan you choose.  The PB NEEDS McKenzie plaid baby shoes!  I did the conversion from pounds to dollars, and they're something like $36.  Yes, pricey, but the PB is clearly the most spoiled baby who doesn't exist there ever was (or wasn't as the case may be).

Speaking of McKenzie plaid, I HAD to include my own tartan in this post, even though I've done it before.  The nieces all need a pair of fleep flops, I'm thinking.  I really want a pair of canvas tennies.  Too bad Zazzle is so crazy expensive.  I might be willing to spend $36 on a baby that doesn't exist, but I'm less inclined to spend $100+ on myself.  Maybe someday when I'm rich and famous...

Happy Tartan Day.  More importantly, happy Day of Hope!  Hmmm...maybe I need a Hope Tartan...

Memory Lane: 2013 (yep, that's it.  Apparently April 6 has not been a productive day).
