What's in a Name?

Guess what?  Today is Fun Facts About Names Day, which is day 2 of International Celebrate Your Name Week!  I've always been fascinated by names:  What they mean, why people are named what they are, etc., and apparently I'm not alone since there is an entire week dedicated to names.  So here is a post dedicated to MY name!  (it's my blog, I'll be narcissistic if I want...)

I've complained before how nothing good comes up when I type in my first name + shoes, but tonight the internet gods smiled on me because these came up!  I love them all, and I actually have a pair of flats in peach that look very similar to that pair on the right.  My first name means princess, which is kind of funny as I'm extremely un-princess-y.  I'm named after my mother's father's sister.

Damn, this is intense.  I think one or the other would be sufficient as both shoes and tights are cool, but they're too much together.   This is one of the pictures that came up for my middle name.  My middle name means light, and I always think Princess Light either makes me sound like a Jedi or a spokes-model for beer.  My middle name is after my mother's father's other sister.  He only had 2 and I get to be named after both.

My maiden name is German, and I don't know why this shoe popped up when I typed it in, but I'm going with it, especially since it goes with the blue theme that is developing in this post.  The hubby and I almost broke up over my last name.  I wanted to keep it, he insisted I take his.  I compromised and hyphenated.

I actually did a post before showing shoes with the hubby's (and now my) last name.  Of course this time I went with the turquoise one since it's a post about me, I like blue, and every other shoe has been blue tonight. I don't hate my new last name by any means, I just didn't want to give up the name I'd had for almost 4 decades.

Happy name week!  Please share stories about your name.  Because I am nosy curious.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2015.

3 Things:
  1. I settled a debt recently.  I actually should have posted this several days ago, but kept forgetting when I was actually posting.  It's a huge, ongoing relief, though, so the gratitude continues.  I'm hoping it will repair a damaged relationship, but only time will tell.
  2. I got to talk to my mama numerous times today.  She is my official office phone-tester guinea pig.  I installed new phones for the reps today, so called her each time I had to test them.  Then she demanded a raise.  We are now paying her $0.53 a month for her services.  When the business goes bankrupt you'll know why...
  3. I got a lot done today.  Everything is still frustrating and taking longer than it should, but at least I got a lot done today.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

Today would have been my Grandpa Harry's 110th birthday.  I posted this on Facebook today, but have to share it again as I think it's too funny:

The seester's squinty smile is adorable, I look slighly guilty, and Grandpa looks either bewildered or somewhat disgusted by whatever it is I'm feeling guilty about.  I wish I'd had him in my life for longer, but I'm grateful to have known and been loved by him.  Here are some shoes inspired by my grandpa:

Harry Potter shoes!  My grandpa, one of my favorite literary characters, and one of my favorite seminary professors all share a name. If the PB is a boy, I think I should try to convince the hubby that Harry would be an awesome name.

Grandpa didn't have a middle name, just a middle initial:  S.  These shoes are a little strange, and I'm not sure that's actually supposed to be an S or if it's just an artistic squiggle, but as I'm rather partial to that particular initial myself, I'll take it.

I have searched for McKenzie shoes a million times before and never found any.  Until tonight!  Yay Grandpa's birthday!  These aren't actually shoes, just shoe clips, but I don't care.  Hmmm...these would have been awesome with my wedding shoes.  Time to plan another imaginary wedding!

Zazzle comes through again.  McKenzie plaid tennies!  I'm going to have to start saving my pennies and get me some.  Then I'll have to save lots more pennies and get a pair for every member of the family.

These are from 1906, supposedly, and they're adorable.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

Memory Lane: 2013 ALSO includes plaid!. 2014. 2015 (you might recognize one of these pairs of shoes).

3 Things:
  1. My grandpa, and the memories I have of him.
  2. Today was a mostly lazy day.  I was productive in some ways, but I also spent a good chunk of the day crocheting and watching Netflix.  Delightful.
  3. I made my mom snort coffee today.  Which sounds mean.  Sorry, Mom!  But thanks for chatting with me and thinking I'm occasionally funny.

Three

We had a crazy, windy storm here tonight and the power went out for almost an hour.  It just came back on, and since I didn't post earlier in the day and I'm now really tired, I'm just going to do 3 shoes from the Pinterest Friend and 3 Things, and then sleep.

I wish the heel was a little less clunky, but otherwise this is cute.  (is this red or orange?)

The clunky heel works on these, and I love the colors.

Ditto.

3 Things:
  1. Rain!  It's day 2 of rain, actually, so yay precipitation!
  2. Power.  I don't mind a little romantical candlelight, but I'm happy that we have access to electricity.
  3. A lazy day that was still relatively productive.
Good night.

Doodle Shoes

Today is National Doodle Day, which according to that link, is this:  "National Doodle Day is a doodle-tastic annual fundraising event organised by Epilepsy Action. On Friday 5 February 2016, friends, family and famous faces will join together to draw a line through epilepsy."  Excellent.  I love a day that is helpful.  Are you a doodler?  I can't draw for crap, so doodling always hits my perfectionist button and then I freak out about what is supposed to be a somewhat thoughtless process.  I'm more of a squiggler:

This is a post-it note I squiggled on while I was on one of my 8 million phone calls with various customer service people today.  I used to do this on my notes in class, too.  I have no idea what you would call this besides squiggles.  A squiggle doodle?  A Squoodle?  Oh well.  Let's look at some shoes doodled upon by people who can actually draw:

Look how detailed this are.  I find these really cool and frankly amazing since I definitely can't draw like that.

Also cool, and I like the contrast of the black on the blue shoes.

Or the white on the blue shoes!

I like that these don't match.

Simple, but again, I like the contrast between the blue shoes and the white doodling.

I *think* these started as white and the  blue was added, because they don't match, and I don't think it's one white shoe and one blue shoe.

Not my favorite, but still cool.

I don't think these are hand-doodled.  If they are someone has WAY more patience than I do.

Happy Doodle day!  Now go doodle on some shoes.  Or scrap paper.  You know, whatever.  No wait, first finish reading this post!

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014. 2015.

3 Things:

  1. I didn't mutter, say, or scream obscenities today when I got super frustrated calling 8 million customer service people today!  (Hey, I'll take my gratitude where I can find it)
  2. Despite my grumpiness I was able to help the sales reps figure some stuff out in a meeting today.  I like when I know stuff that's actually helpful.
  3. I bought on-sale yarn today.  Pedro needs a new hat!

A Little Early

Yesterday while I was running errands I had a lady tell me I looked all bright and cheery like an Easter egg.  She actually meant it as a compliment, although it sounds kind of funny now that I type it out.  I was wearing a dress with lots of fun, springy colors, and she thought I looked festive.  I was going to do a post on pastels since that's what Easter eggs makes me think of, but had to change that idea when I remembered it was Dr. Seuss's birthday.  So I'll do it tonight, instead, even though it's still a few weeks until Easter.

Don't these make you think of Easter eggs?  I'll take several pairs in my Easter basket, please.

Throw in several pairs of these while you're at it.

Hmmm...not so much.  I don't have anything against this shoe necessarily, but it wouldn't be my first choice.  Although in the 90s I had a fabulous green and pink outfit that would have been awesome with this shoe.

Also not my first choice.  I like the colors and the geometric design, but the overall effect doesn't work for me.

Blue is good.  I must be in a bright color phase, though, because this is also leaving me a little flat.

And yet these are awesome.  AND day 4 of yellow high tops.  I have issues, don't I?  It's OK...you can tell me.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014. 2015.

3 Things:
  1. Finally getting everything straightened out with the bank stuff.  It only took 3 days.
  2. The headache going away.  My dad always says, "just think how good it will feel when it stops hurting," which frankly sucks in the midst of the pain (silly Dad!) but it's definitely true.  Sooooo much nicer without the headache.  Of course, I tried Advil Migraine for the first time and I was high as a kite for several hours after, but at least it worked.
  3. Nice ladies who tell me I look all bright and cheery.  Or like an Easter egg, and maybe that wasn't a compliment, but I'm taking it as one because she was very nice and I will take her at her word.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

It's Dr. Seuss's birthday!  It's also Read Across America Day! This is my kind of holiday. Too bad I have a menstrual migraine and feel like I'm going to hurl.  But I shall attempt to ignore that loveliness and do a(nother) Dr. Seuss shoe post.  Hooray!

This isn't my favorite Dr. Seuss book because it makes me sad, but I love the colors on the shoe.

I love all of the Whos encircling the shoes!

Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome Christmas,
Come this way!

One fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish.  And some very smug-looking green fish!

I love Hop on Pop!  I also love that it is subtitled "The Simplest Seuss for Youngest Use."

More shoes (and a bib!) for the PB.

More Lorax shoes.  But how fabulous is that blue?

I figured why not go for day 3 of yellow canvas shoes?  And I do love me some Horton.

Ahhhh...Dr. Seuss makes me happy.  Dr. Suess shoes make me even happier.  Almost happy enough to ignore this stupid blankety-blank-blank headache.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014

3 Things:
  1. Dr. Seuss books!  Rhyming!  Books in general!
  2. Awesome news received today on the personal front!
  3. Awesome news received today on the work front!
Hooray for today!

My Poor Hairbrush

The handle snapped off my hairbrush about a week ago.  I continue to use it until I can get another one, but every morning I find myself singing The Hairbrush song from Veggie Tales Silly Songs with Larry:

It's a classic for a reason!  I've done one other Veggie Tales post, but it only had 2 pairs of shoes, so here are some more:

God DID make you special, and now you can have shoes to remind you!

I'm not a huge fan of crocs, but I like the little attachment thingy (I'm sure there's a name for it, but I have no idea what it is).

Slippers!  But I don't know how I feel about shoving my foot into Larry's mouth.  Aren't I supposed to put my foot in my own mouth, or at least try to avoid that?

The PB needs these.  Potential Nana, can you get on that?

Then the PB can become a toddler and have these!

But I want these!  Hmmm...2 pairs of yellow high tops in 2 days.  What am I trying to say?

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014.

3 Things:
  1. An amazingly lovely and helpful woman at the bank today who helped make a crappy and annoying situation better.  She was my hero and now I love her.
  2. I wore my awesome coral shoes today.  The happy color helped cheer me up.
  3. A hilarious conversation with our 16 year old intern who was fascinated by long distance calls.  It started when we were talking about toll-free numbers and he said, "wait, are there numbers that are toll...full?"  Party lines just about blew his mind.
