Duckies

I got to Skype with the fam today, which was awesome.  Although I'm not sure I ever saw anyone's whole face at any given time, which was awesomely hilarious.  I saw a lot of Laughter's hair, a lot of Flower's glasses, the seester's and auntie's parts in their hair, Mom's elbow, The Bean's and Double A's chins.  Oh well, it was nice to see even that much of them!  We Skyped to talk about Mom and Dad's upcoming 50th wedding anniversary, but I also got to wish Flower a happy baptism anniversary.  She was baptized 8 years ago today!  Except...she wasn't.  I had it on my calendar as today, but it was really October 5th.  I'm the worst auntie/godmother ever.  At least I got to sing to her even if it was on the wrong day.  Yep, I sing for everything.  This was Happy Baptism Anniversary to the tune of Happy Birthday.  I just shoved those extra syllables right on in.  I'm fairly sure there was eye rolling on more than just the part of Flower.

Anywho, since I've already done baptism shoes a couple of times, I thought I'd do something else.  So ducky shoes!  Hey, baptism...water...ducks...work with me here. And yes, I've also done ducks before, but only once, and those were mostly adult shoes.

Crocheted duckies! And yes, day 3 of baby shoes. I've decided to continue to torture myself.  Besides, duckie and puppy baby shoes are just cuter.

Duckie pull-toy shoes.  Or so I'm assuming.

Kissing duckies!  I don't think that's what they're actually supposed to be doing, but it's my blog and I'll make stuff up as it amuses me.

These are super sweet.  I wish I could see the detail a little clearer.

Also sweet.  Also pull toys?  Actually old fashioned or just made to look that way?

I though I'd end on a whimsical/crazy note.  Don't dress your baby's feet in rubber ducky crocs, please!  Unless you have a really compelling reason, of course.  Like a theme party.  I'm all for theme shoes.

I'm shutting up now.  I think the sinus infection/bronchitis is making me loopy(er).

Celebrations

This past week has been full of celebrations in my family.  Wednesday was Flower's baptismal anniversary, Thursday was Dad's birthday, and Friday was the seester's and brother-in-law's anniversary.  So it was a Baptismabirthiversary week! Originally I had planned to post each day, for each celebration.  But that didn't happen, obviously.  So here are some shoes for each day:

Flower was almost 3 when she was baptized, so she didn't wear tiny, crocheted baby shoes.  I just couldn't resist these.  Flower's shoes were pretty darn cute, though.

You might not be able to tell, but these are silver and sparkly!  I was a very proud auntie/slash godmother, but not only for her shoes.

These are the shoes I wore, in case you were curious.  When I first posted these, I wrote that I wore them for the Bean's baptism, but I actually bought them on internship, so that was post Bean baptism.

This is actually a cake.  I can't quite picture my dad buying a shoe like this, although I think he could rock it if he did.  But since it was his birthday, here is a celebratory cake for him.  I think he said they were having a family dinner tonight.  This is one of those times when I definitely miss living closer and being able to be part of stuff like that.  The hubby and I did have dinner with our neighbor tonight, but it's not quite the same thing even though it was quite lovely.  Oh well.  Happy birthday, Pop!

Yesterday was the seester's and brother-in-law's 22nd wedding anniversary.  They are exactly 20 years ahead of the hubby and me in that department.  According to the internet (which of course is NEVER wrong...), the 22nd anniversary gift is copper.  This picture said this shoe was a copper wedding shoe, so that seemed appropriate.  It also would have looked fab with their wedding colors.  Sadly I can't remember what the seester's shoes were for the wedding.  I know mine were black, and I might have a picture somewhere, but I don't have the energy to go searching for it.

Oh man, I really think my brother-in-law needs these.  He'd never ever wear them, but he still needs them.  I think these are awesome.

Happy Baptismabirthiversary, Flower, Dad, Seester, and Brother-in-law!

I Can't Believe They Didn't Ask Me To Do The Christening

I have a voice today for the first time in 3 days.  It's not terribly strong, but at least it's there.  Yesterday was the worst, with me only being able to speak in a whisper for most of the day.  Of course, now I'm coughing delightful, yellow stuff out of my lungs; I kind of think I might prefer the voicelessness.  Today was a day of meetings, worship, and office cleaning.  I got other stuff done, too, I think, but for some reason it's kind of a blur.  My office is still pretty much a disaster, but I'm starting to make some headway into the mess left over from camp and then being gone for most of last week.

One fun thing I did today was to look at pictures from the christening of HRH Prince George.

How adorable are those cheeks?  I just want to squish them!  He seems supremely bored with the whole thing in all of the pictures I saw, which just made him more adorable.

I've done baptism shoes on here before, but in honor of little Prince Chubby Cheeks, here are some "boy" baptism shoes:

The prince's christening gown was too long to know if he was even wearing shoes, which is too bad, because random Lutheran Pastor Shoe Bloggers want to know...

June 2nd

Today is the third anniversary of my grandmother's death.  My grandma was awesome in so many ways.  She loved us through food like a good, Norwegian grandmother (90% of the stories we came up with after she died were about her feeding us).  She always had Kleenex in her purse, and always made a point to tell us that it was "crumpled, but clean."  Is there a grandmother out there handing her grandkids crumpled, dirty tissue?!  She used to call my brother's car the whoopee wagon, which made us laugh hysterically, but whoopee in her vocabulary meant something different than  hers.  I don't remember my grandma ever wearing anything but sensible shoes in my lifetime.  Which makes perfect sense as she had bad knees.  Apparently, though, she was quite the fashion plate when she was younger, so I'm assuming that came with at least one pair of fabulous shoes.  I don't have any pictures with which to back that assumption up, though.

In other news, we had another baptism as church today, and there were so many fun shoes in that family!  Baby's great-grandma had some fabulous green flats on.  Baby's sponsor was wearing really cute white, lacy wedges.  I was scanning the congregation during service wishing I could take pictures of feet like I do with the preschoolers.  But that would just be incredibly creepy and weird.  And people think I'm weird enough as it is.  Oh!  And the baby was wearing a tie with his onesie!  I didn't have any pictures that tied in with today's post, so I did some searching.  Hope you enjoy some adorable baby shoes for baptisms.

Baby Blue Blankie

Shhhh...I'm writing this at the office, don't tell my boss!  Said boss is actually at a meeting, our one current employee is home sick, and I'm taking advantage of the quiet to write a quick post. Are there other things I should be doing?  Yes, but nothing that can't wait.  And I just found out that my latest project has arrived at its destination, so I can share it here and not ruin the surprise on the off-chance they read the blog.

This is for the new baby of a family at St. Someone's.  He's a little over a month old, and super cute.  Which isn't surprising as his older brother has always been super cute (Mom and Dad must have super-cute-baby genes)

*Happy side-note:  Said older brother wore orange to his baptism, so I, of course, matched my shoes to his shirt.  Yes, I was an incredibly dorky pastor.

*Unhappy side-note:  I'm trying not to take it horribly personally how many people from St. Someone's have un-friended me on Facebook since I left.  This makes me sad.

Enough side-notes.  Back to the post.  It's time for some blue, crocheted shoes.

I think Toms has these in pretty much every color.  I approve.  These are my wedding color, so of course I approve of these the most.

Adorable.  The Potential Baby might have to have some.  Which means this business had better do well so I can spend my days at home crocheting instead of at the office writing blog posts. Heehee.

See?  I'll need the time to make sure the PB has a different pair of adorable shoes for every day of his or her baby life.

I love these.  I'd wear them as slippers if they came in my size.

How cute are these?  Maybe the puppies need some puppy shoes?

Blue pigs.  Why are the piggies blue?  And why is there one random pair that's not blue?

Oh hell no.

I couldn't leave you with that last pair.  These are much better.  And the girlier version of that first pair.

Dang, I keep forgetting that the PB would need matching hats.  Maybe the hubby and I shouldn't have a baby...the obsessive perfectionism might kill me.

Look 2 posts in a week!  I've actually missed writing.  Maybe I'll be able to find some more time/inspiration to write a little more often going forward.  For now I need to get back to work before I get fired.

Maundy Thursday

I think I was born in the wrong decade.  I love so many styles from different eras.  I'm sure I've babbled on about this before, but I love go-go boots, and poodle skirts, and Gibson girl styles, and flapper dresses, and on and on.  OK, I probably don't necessarily want to live in all of these eras.  I like things now, like the right to vote, the ability to be ordained, the fact that my marriage to man of color isn't illegal.  Oh, but the clothes.  I wonder if I could get a time machine and just go back to visit those times for  historical and clothing purposes of interest?  In the meantime, I just dress up for Halloween.  All of this leads up to today's calendar picture:

I  love them.  And why can't I seem to take a decent picture lately???

Today, as the post title says, is Maundy Thursday.  Last Sunday was Palm Sunday, this Sunday is Easter, which means we are smack in the middle of Holy Week.  For pastors, this means lots of services.  From last Sunday to this, I will be involved in 9 different services.  From a lighter perspective, it also means I get to plan shoes with lots of different clerical outfits.  Today I went with these:

These are some of my favorites.  At my first congregation I had one woman who would always complain when I wore "boring" shoes.  For her, that meant shoes that didn't have color.  I like the simplicity of these, and I love the ankle strap.  Besides, I'm wearing a green dress today with a big pattern of black and white flowers, so I think simple shoes are probably better in this case.  I've had these shoes for a long time.  I was thinking 5 years or so, until I realized that I wore these shoes at the bean's baptism, and the bean is going to be 10 in July.  Yikes.  So now I'm trying to remember if I bought these when I still lived in Texas, or if I bought them my first semester of seminary.  Oh well, 10 years on and I still like them.

Over Half-Way

We are now 3/5 of the way done with camp week (not that I'm counting or anything).  This is the smallest camp I've ever run at St. Someone's and yet for some reason it is totally kicking my rear-end more than usual.  Yesterday was a 13+ hour day and by the time I ran errands it was 9:30 before I got home.  Today was only a 12 hour day, so yay me!  The kids are good, but there have been little things all week that have been stressing me out.  We finally got the one really big one taken care of yesterday, but not before it caused me to have a minor melt-down in the hallway before opening worship.  Today was Wednesday, which is always the craziest day for the kids.  It was all-over 3rd and 4th grade girl drama; they were just catty and bratty.  I think I had complaints from every single person who worked with them.  Here's hoping they are better tomorrow.  But for every crazy moment, there are also sweet moments.  Today, out of the blue, one of the little guys who has been misbehaving and driving me a little crazy all week, ran up to me, gave me a giant hug, and said, "I'm really going to miss you next week when I don't get to see you anymore."   Awwww....heart melting.

Anyway, on Monday when I posted the pin from my Pinterest friend I totally spaced posting what one of my former youth group kids posted on my wall:

I'm pretty sure it's a magazine?  I clearly have to go find this.  She said she saw it at WalGreens...I will have to go look.  I love the subtitle:  The HISTORY and the PASSION.  OK, so those are my emphases, but doesn't it just sound like a soap opera about shoes?  I also love that she got her own shoe in the picture.

In other news:  Yesterday was the anniversary of Flower's baptism!

Today is my daddy's birthday!  (He loves Elvis...Elvis is not my father)

Since it's my dad's birthday, that also means it's John Lennon's birthday!  My favorite Beatle!

And now I must sleep so I can go back to camp and try not to have any melt-downs.
