Fleep Flop Art

It's National Flip Flop Day!  Which is awesome for all of you flip flop lovers out there, I hope you wore your favorite pair.  Me, I only wear fleep flops in certain circumstances, and I'm never terribly happy about it, so you wouldn't think I'd celebrate such a day.  But then the Pinterest Friend sent me this:

Flip flop art!  How adorable is this?  I like flip flops just fine, as long as I don't have to wear them. This also takes care of my other issues with flip flops, which is that you can't see the cute part because you are stepping on it.

Patriotic flip flop wreath!  I kind of want to find some really cheap flip flops now, and make one.

Oh, adorable.  Love it.

Blue for me, green for Double A, Mom, and SKD!

There are a million bazillion wreath ideas out there, and I totally got sucked into perusing them this afternoon.

You know what else is fun for National Flip Flop Day?

Cake!  Every day is better with cake!

See?  How adorable is this?  I'm not fond of fondant, but it makes for adorable decorations, and I'm sure the cake inside is quite yummy.

Or, if you want to DIY and go a little simpler, there's this idea.

So, you can wear flip flops, create flip flop wreaths, eat flip flop cake and make...

Flip flop sculptures!  Yep, that's a ginormous turtle made out of flip flops.

Here you can see the flip flops in more detail, although I'm not sure what exactly is going on here.  Is it a sock monkey that got drunk and passed out?  Was it supposed to be sitting on the fence and it just fell over?

I think this one is pretty cool.  It's like a tattoo, only a sculpture.  And made out of flip flops.

So, don't throw those old fleep flops away.  Bake yourself some flip flop cake, dig out all the flip flops you don't wear anymore, and get creative!  I'll be over on Pinerest, waiting for your creations...

Celebrations

This past week has been full of celebrations in my family.  Wednesday was Flower's baptismal anniversary, Thursday was Dad's birthday, and Friday was the seester's and brother-in-law's anniversary.  So it was a Baptismabirthiversary week! Originally I had planned to post each day, for each celebration.  But that didn't happen, obviously.  So here are some shoes for each day:

Flower was almost 3 when she was baptized, so she didn't wear tiny, crocheted baby shoes.  I just couldn't resist these.  Flower's shoes were pretty darn cute, though.

You might not be able to tell, but these are silver and sparkly!  I was a very proud auntie/slash godmother, but not only for her shoes.

These are the shoes I wore, in case you were curious.  When I first posted these, I wrote that I wore them for the Bean's baptism, but I actually bought them on internship, so that was post Bean baptism.

This is actually a cake.  I can't quite picture my dad buying a shoe like this, although I think he could rock it if he did.  But since it was his birthday, here is a celebratory cake for him.  I think he said they were having a family dinner tonight.  This is one of those times when I definitely miss living closer and being able to be part of stuff like that.  The hubby and I did have dinner with our neighbor tonight, but it's not quite the same thing even though it was quite lovely.  Oh well.  Happy birthday, Pop!

Yesterday was the seester's and brother-in-law's 22nd wedding anniversary.  They are exactly 20 years ahead of the hubby and me in that department.  According to the internet (which of course is NEVER wrong...), the 22nd anniversary gift is copper.  This picture said this shoe was a copper wedding shoe, so that seemed appropriate.  It also would have looked fab with their wedding colors.  Sadly I can't remember what the seester's shoes were for the wedding.  I know mine were black, and I might have a picture somewhere, but I don't have the energy to go searching for it.

Oh man, I really think my brother-in-law needs these.  He'd never ever wear them, but he still needs them.  I think these are awesome.

Happy Baptismabirthiversary, Flower, Dad, Seester, and Brother-in-law!

Shoe Shower

I attended a lovely bridal shower for a friend today.  Except for the fact that it got up to 104 and we were outside for part of the time it was just about perfect.  The bride looked beautiful, the cake was yummy, and I was socially awkward.  All was right with the world.  So off I went to search for bridal shower shoes:

First, obviously, you need to send out invitations.  I love both of these.  I have shoes very similar to the top pair, and I think I need some cute flowery ones in the bottom invitation.

I never ever would have thought to put shoes on a cake plate as a decoration.  But someone with my wedding color did.  (My wedding shoes were better.  I'm just saying.)  It looks kind of cool.  Also kind of weird.

And then you must feed your guests.  That's a lot of cake in that first picture.  Today's bride loves purple and also loves shoes, so I think she needs the second cake.  And while I hate the spikes on the shoes in this third picture, I love the concept.  Cake!  Cupcakes!  Shoes!  Um...ignore that Happy Birthday part.

Finally, you want to send you guests home with a lovely party favor.  Shoe shaped bottle openers.  Sure.

All of these pictures have made me decide I need a shower do-over.  No, wait...all 3 of my showers were lovely and I don't want anyone to think I didn't enjoy them or wish for something different.  Instead, I think someone should throw me a shoe shower.  I wouldn't even need presents, just friends and shoe stuff.  Anyone want to get on that?  Anyone?  Hello...?

Mmmmmm

We've talked about both cake and cupcakes before.  Usually people post cute pictures on my facebook wall, and then I post them here.  Tonight I decided to go search and see what I could see.  I'm not sure why.  I'm not craving cake or anything, it was just the first thing that popped into my head tonight when I was trying to decide what to write about (sorry, Mom, I know it's midnight there...I'm running late today).  As you would expect from the internet, there are a LOT of pictures of shoe-themed cakes out there.  Some are amazing, some are cute, some are obviously home-made, which makes them just as special in my eyes.  Here are 4 that I chose somewhat at random to give you a glimpse of the lengths people will go to with cake.

OK, this is technically a cake stand with shoes, but I thought it was stinkin' cute, and I love the stripes.

Cakes that are this intricate always make me think how I wouldn't want to cut into them and ruin the art.  Plus, just the thought of that much fondant makes me a little queasy.

Simpler, but still pretty.  Still too much fondant.

These are actually Dolce and Gabbana and not cake, but they popped up in the search.  While I appreciate the intricacy of this as a shoe, I really wish it was cake.  This would be an amazing cake.  Someone needs to get on this.

Cake Shoes

I love it when my facebook friends provide me with some inspiration for posts.  Today it was our music and worship director at church who tagged me in this picture:

Cute!  And these are some fleep flops I could get behind.  I don't have to worry about the thing between my toes because I would just eat it!  Or throw it away, depending on what it was made of.  This cake looks much easier to make than the one I showed awhile back:

And a lot prettier and less disgusting than these cake shoes I've also shown before:

So there  you go.  Cake and shoes; shoes and cake.  In case you were looking to combine your love of all things culinary and shoe-related.

Slingbacks and Cake

Today was a day of meetings, but some really good things as well:  Good worship (of course it was good as the BSF planned it), and I got to sleep in because things didn't start until 1:00.  The sleeping in was awesome, and so needed.  This sinus infection isn't awful, it's just making me crazy tired.  Anyhoo, I wore shoes today that I have already posted, but the BSF was wearing adorable shoes:

I love them and I covet them.  I also covet her ability to wear slingbacks.  I'm sinning all over the place today.  Adorable.  One of the many reasons she is, in fact, my BSF.

Speaking of adorable, this was posted on my facebook timeline today:

Pretty sure this needs to be my next birthday cake, except in blue.  Would someone please get on that for me?

In Need of Inspiration

I was hoping as the day went on I would think of something to write about for today...I seem to be stuck.  I wore the same shoes this morning to church that I wore last week.  2 different churches in 2 different states, so I can get away with it. :-)  I'm not inspired by today's calendar, Shoe Box P--- hasn't given me any ideas today; I'm just boring.  Clearly I need to google something, but even that hasn't given me any ideas.  I even asked the hubby, who suggested I google bizarre shoes, and there are definitely some weird ones out there.  I can't seem to think of anything to say today, though.  I'll let you  peruse on your own if you want, and save that idea for another day.  Finally, I googled birthday shoes and this popped up:

WTH?  Those are just insane, and they look like they would be crazy heavy.  Also how is gray cake in any way appealing?  See what happens when I can't think of anything?  We end up in crazy cake land!
