Yikes

Yesterday The Bean tagged me on Facebook, showing me this video:

It's an exhibition happening in New York right now, you can read more about it here if you want.  You should watch the video because there are some crazy shoes in there.  Here are a few stills I found:

The colors are really cool.  That's the only good thing I can say about these.

This is both hilarious and absolutely ridiculous to me.  Makes me laugh AND roll my eyes.

Huh.  Interesting shape, but can you actually walk in them?  I'm guessing I would slide and fall on my patootie.

This might be the most normal one of the group.

I don't think these have heels.  I still need to find a pair like this and try them on because I can't wrap my brain around how these are physically possible.

The Bean thought we should go to New York and see the exhibit.  That would be awesome.  I just need to win the lottery and collect my winnings before the 17th when the exhibit ends!

Seems Fishy

A friend (a new friend!  Yay new friends!) posted this on my Facebook wall yesterday:

She said she was interested in knowing what I might write about it.  And I don't know what to write about this thing.  It's a fish shoe, obviously.  And it's fairly hideous.  It should be filed under WHY?  And WHO BUYS THIS??  Oh Nike, go home.  You're drunk.

You know I went in search of more:

Well these just look dead.  Depending on whose feet have been in them, they might smell dead, too.

Noooooo!  Poor fishies.  It said the sole slides back so you can feed them, but why would you make them slosh around while you danced on your stripper pole?  So wrong.

Also wrong.  That fish looks shocked to find it's been made into a shoe.

These at least have some whimsy.  And they're blue.  They're still a world of no, though.

Um...why?  Is there  Vegas showgirl outfit that this goes with?  Because I don't want to see it.

So, thanks, new friend for this crazy post that made me laugh!  I've decided her nickname on the blog will be The Canadian.  First, because she's Canadian and I'm not creative with the blog nicknames, and second, because THE Canadian (with the definitive article) sounds way cool, and she is way cool.

Ugly Sweaters

Guess what?  Today was National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day!  I don't have an ugly Christmas sweater, so I couldn't participate (although it's currently about 5 degrees, not counting windchill, so a sweater, regardless of beauty, is fairly necessary).  In honor of this very silly holiday I give you the following results from a search for "ugly Christmas sweater shoes:"

I'm just going to leave these here for you...you're welcome...

Watermelon

So, I've (mostly [sort of]) come to turns with the fact that I am not and never will be perfect.  But does the universe really need to come along and remind me just what a colossal eff up I am?  Today was one of those days, and it sucked.  It got a little better as the day went on, but this morning was not good, I felt terrible, I had major guilt, and sometimes my best doesn't even come close to being good enough.

Tonight I'm moving on and looking at watermelon shoes, because it's National Watermelon Day, even though I did them last year, too.  Besides, I love watermelon, and I don't feel like trying to figure out another theme.

I want to like these, and I'm 80% there, but something falls a little short for me, and I can't put my finger on what it is.

Tie-dye watermelon shoes!  And if they aren't actually tie-dye, I don't want to be disillusioned.

Wow.  And no.  Except, maybe?  They're so wacky they're almost fun.

Cute!

These are weird.  They're weirder when you realize they are knitted or crocheted coverings over booties.  Who comes up with this stuff?

We all needed a nice palate cleanser to round things out.

Now I wish I had some watermelon.  Why did I buy peaches when I went to the store earlier?!

Crazy

OhMyGoodnessTodayWasCrazyNonStopNothingWentQuiteAsPlannedCanIGoToBedNowPlease?! Yeah, today was crazy.  The hubby was sick and stayed home, work was one thing after another after another, I have a major sinus headache, blah blah blah.  I got a lot done today, which is good, but I also feel like I was completely disjointed the entire day and I hope I didn't screw anything up in any major, unfixable way.  So, in honor of this crazy day, here are 5 crazy shoes that actually manage to make my day seem a little more normal:

So you can box with your feet?  In case a clown also wants to be a boxer?

This actually makes me giggle a little bit.  But would you constantly slip on the banana peel?

OK, that is just plain creepy.  Why?

Also why?  Once again I have to say:  Put down the glue gun and back away slowly.

I don't even know what is going on with these.  Because they weren't crazy enough someone thought it would be a super cool idea to put giant, blood shot eyes in the middle! Weird.

Hey, at least all of these make me feel marginally better about my day.

Happy Easter!

Christ is Risen!  Happy Easter!  Here are some shoes!

Oh, Irregular Choice...I'd love to know what kind of drugs you are on...

Um.  Who wears these?  Put down the glue gun and back away slowly.

Or these?  At least they are pretty colors?

Oh dear.  I really did have good intentions when I went looking for Easter shoes.  And the the results were really really frightening.  Poor little trapped bunnies.

At least these are marginally cuter.  The bunnies look a little sad, though.  And I just realized I ate zero chocolate on Easter.   I didn't go to church, and I didn't eat chocolate.  I officially suck at Easter.

I posted these last year (turns out I posted those Irregular Choice ones, too), but they're so bright and fun, and I needed a palate cleanser after the rest of this craziness.

These are cute, too, so at least we're ending on a decent note.

Memory Lane: 2013. 2014. 2015.

3 Things:
  1. I made it through Lent with the 3 things!  I missed those 2 days, but made them up, so I didn't do too bad.  And now I will stop subjecting you to this part of the blog.  I should probably tell you all of the deep things I learned about gratitude by doing this, but I'm just too tired to think straight.
  2. We finished at the old house today!  Done.  Yay!
  3. Christ is risen!  We celebrate the promises of the resurrection once again!

Tea

My holiday website informed me that today is National Hot Tea Day.  I love tea, and have since I was a kid (although as a kid it probably had a lot to do with the sugar).  When I went to the site I read that this year is the first ever National Hot Tea day.  Then I read a little further and found out that National Hot Tea Day is actually JANUARY 12.  My holiday website has failed me!  But, I'd already found tea shoes, so I'm still going to go with it.

Tea and books!  Sounds like a perfect Saturday afternoon to me.

I know, Arizona Green Tea is iced, not hot, but the pretty can translated to pretty shoes.

These scare me.  They're supposed to be teapots but the make me think of dragons or monsters.

Not scary, but still weird.  If it's a real shoe, I'm sure it's sturdier than it looks, but I keep thinking it should shatter as soon as you stood up on it.

Kind of cute, but still falling short.

My mom collects teapots, maybe she needs some shoes!  I think these are quirky and fun except for the heads.  The heads are also quirky and fun, they just seem like they should be quirky and fun somewhere else.  Why doe the shoepots have heads growing out of them?

Regardless of when the day actually is, I will continue to drink and enjoy my hot tea (still with sugar, just less than when I was a kid, and most often Truvia rather than actual sugar).

In case you're feeling like reading more, on this day in:  2013, 2014, and 2015.

3 things:
  1. Gas money.  Seems like a simple thing, but today I am really really grateful for it.
  2. Today would have been my dad's mom's 103rd birthday.  I have complicated feelings about her, but she was family, and I will take the happy memories I have and try to reconcile the rest.
  3. Laughing with the husband because he is being a total, goofy, adorable dork.

Appreciation

Today, according to my handy dandy holidays tracker, is Dragon Appreciation Day.  Who knew?  Not me, at any rate.  Poor dragons didn't get special appreciation today.  They did get the usual amount, like a morning bath in nice, warm water.  If I'd known, I would have given them their favorite treat of yummy (to them) freeze dried meal worms.  They're actually sleeping right now, at least until I decided to take pictures:

Bulbasaur really likes to sleep propped up against the back wall.  His bottom feet are on the lava rock, and he's support himself with his tail, but then he clings to the styrofoam climbing wall.  I don't think it looks comfortable, but he sleeps like this most nights, so it must work.

Charmander prefers stretching out on the log, which seems much more comfortable.  For some reason I think he looks smug in this picture.  Silly dragon.

Squirtle is our fort builder.  She likes to dig and make herself little nests.  I added the arrow just in case you weren't sure where to find her in the picture.  When she hibernates this is the spot she likes to be.  Also when the boys annoy her.  I think she's an introvert like me.

I posted a couple of weeks ago on Squirtle's and Charmander's birthday, but thought I'd post again and give you some actual pictures of our non-fur babies.

So no on to the shoes.  I think I've posted these before, but couldn't find where.  There is this post about dragons, but it doesn't include these shoes, so I'm not sure where I posted them before.  I like these, even if they are starting at me.

This is so cool!  I like the blue, of course, but I also really like the design.  It's intricate and interesting.

Hmmm...as mother of dragons, do I need these?  Probably.

Whoa.  Damn.  Yikes.

I like these.  I think?  The dragons are kind of squished into the wedge so they look like they are being squashed as you walk on them.  Or maybe I'm just overly sensitive.

At any rate, Happy Dragon Appreciation Day!  You don't have to appreciate my dragon babies, but maybe there is a kind of dragon you do appreciate.  PuffPete's DragonDragon Tales? Game of Thrones? The Reluctant Dragon? I'm sure there are a million other choices, so whatever makes you happy!

Speaking of happy, we finally got some good news today!  Sorry to be vague, but I'm going to wait until the good news is a little more solidified before sharing, but in the meantime let me just say thank you so much for your prayers, good thoughts, and support!
