Cupcakes

Today is National Cupcake Day!  If only I had known this I could have stress-eaten a dozen or so.  Except, of course, that money is the source of my stress, so that wipes out that plan.  Damn, my plans always fail.  I will have to stick to imaginary cupcakes, which contain fewer calories anyway.  And I shall look at cupcake shoes.

Mmmm...I would eat wear all of these.

Today is also my Uncle's birthday!

Here is a picture from the day my brother and I were baptized, back when my uncle still liked me.  See how I'm reaching toward him?  Hopefully I was past it by this age, but as a baby I spit up on him every time he picked me up.  It's amazing he didn't stop liking me sooner!  I don't remember the spitting up, but I do remember lots of other fun and silly memories, and I have many, many reasons to be grateful he's my uncle.  He has recently lost over 100 lbs (maybe closer to 200 now?) which is awesome, so wouldn't be eating cupcakes today, nor would he wear cupcake shoes, but hopefully he found other ways to enjoy the day, and hopefully no one spit up on him.

Joyeux Anniversaire Maman!

I started my day today in song.  I sang Happy Birthday to Mom while the hubby meowed in the background (because he is weird.  Usually he howls like a dog, but today he decided to mix it up.  It's actually funnier and cuter than it sounds).  (also, I lied.  The day ACTUALLY started with the hubby waking me up like it was Christmas morning to watch last night's Conor McGregor MMA fight, but I prefer to stick with the singing memory.  It's much more pleasant and less violent).  Anyhoo.  Today is my mom's birthday!  Yay, Mom!  I asked her what kind of shoes she wanted me to post to celebrate the day and she decided on rain boots.  Here is why:

These are pictures of my parents' front yard that my dad sent me yesterday.  And yes, there is a caboose across the street.  Don't be jealous because you don't have one across the street from your house.  The point, of course, is the flooding from the crazy rain they had yesterday.  Dad sent me an email and asked if I wanted to come home and go fishing.  The lot next door used to be an empty parking lot that flooded every winter, and I used to love to put my boots on and go fishing in in the puddle.  Sadly I never caught anything. Probably because I didn't actually have a hook on my line.  Oh, and it was a puddle in a parking lot.  BUT, Mom suggested rain boots since this is their yard and rain boots would be appropriate for puddle stomping.  Here ya go, mama!

I typed in green rain boots and everything else was boring or ugly, so I had to add a little blue.  It's OK, Mom like blue, even thought green is her favorite color.

She also loves pansies, but I couldn't find any boots with pansies on them.  Instead I got boots with pansies IN them.  Cute and fun!

Pansy rain shoes are great for little puddles, but not for giant-puddle stomping.  Would it have been so hard to make these in a boot, too?  Do these people not understand it's my mom's birthday?!

Look!  Green!  I was actually looking for something inspired by Mary Engelbreit, and these popped up.  They're really cool, but where were they when I typed in green?  So many questions tonight.

Huh.  I had no idea my mom had her own line of rain boots.  You'd think she'd tell me something like that considering I have a shoe blog.

I just like these.  Bright, fun, and awesome.

Green birthday cupcakes boots!

Mom is a painter, so I thought this was also really cool.  Hey, Mom, I think you should start painting that line of rain boots you have as they're a little plain...

So.  Happy Birthday, Mom!  Thanks for not selling me to they gypsies when I was bratty.

Cuppy Cakes

The box with the nieces' pottery made it home mostly safe and sound.  The Bean's had a couple of small chips out of it, which Dad super-glued, and hopefully she's not traumatized and hasn't decided that I'm the worst auntie ever for not packing the box better.  Here is the before shipping picture:

Isn't it cute?  The top comes off so it's a little container.  It was the bottom that got the chips out of it.  So sad.  Here are some Bean cupcake inspired shoes (which sounds kind of gross):

I've posted these a couple of times, and I think this and similar pictures have been posted to my facebook wall numerous times.  They look yummy.

I've had this picture for a year and keep forgetting to post it.  These were made for a party last summer by a very kind person from St. Someone's.  She said the plan was to make the whole batch into shoes, but they aren't as easy as all the fancy pictures make them out to be.  Nothing ever is. (Pinterest lies!)  It was still very very sweet of her to make me these, and I appreciate the kindness.  And yes, they were yummy!

This is so bright and happy.  I really don't know where one would wear a cupcake shoe, but if you ever have the occasion, they exist out there.

Tennies!  In case you need cupcake shoes for a more casual event.

And your daughter/niece/cute next door neighbor can go with  you.  (notice the ribbon laces?!)

Aaaaaand you can take a baby!

There were a similar pair in black, but they had skulls on them.  So, I guess those would be what you would wear to an edgier cupcake event?

More ribbon laces!

Finally, something that isn't pink!  Although these are a little bit weird.  Cute, but weird.

These would be really cute with a fun skirt.  For your fun skirt cupcake event.

Now we have the shoes, who's going to have cupcake events we can all wear them to?

Shoe Shower

I attended a lovely bridal shower for a friend today.  Except for the fact that it got up to 104 and we were outside for part of the time it was just about perfect.  The bride looked beautiful, the cake was yummy, and I was socially awkward.  All was right with the world.  So off I went to search for bridal shower shoes:

First, obviously, you need to send out invitations.  I love both of these.  I have shoes very similar to the top pair, and I think I need some cute flowery ones in the bottom invitation.

I never ever would have thought to put shoes on a cake plate as a decoration.  But someone with my wedding color did.  (My wedding shoes were better.  I'm just saying.)  It looks kind of cool.  Also kind of weird.

And then you must feed your guests.  That's a lot of cake in that first picture.  Today's bride loves purple and also loves shoes, so I think she needs the second cake.  And while I hate the spikes on the shoes in this third picture, I love the concept.  Cake!  Cupcakes!  Shoes!  Um...ignore that Happy Birthday part.

Finally, you want to send you guests home with a lovely party favor.  Shoe shaped bottle openers.  Sure.

All of these pictures have made me decide I need a shower do-over.  No, wait...all 3 of my showers were lovely and I don't want anyone to think I didn't enjoy them or wish for something different.  Instead, I think someone should throw me a shoe shower.  I wouldn't even need presents, just friends and shoe stuff.  Anyone want to get on that?  Anyone?  Hello...?

Olaf the Snowman

Frozen came out on DVD today and The Bean has been sooooo excited.  Apparently she informed the fam that they were watching it at 5:00 tonight.  It's nights like this I wish I had a teleporter so I could go home for a few hours and then come back.  Since I can't, I'll just dedicate this post to The Bean, and go with some more Frozen shoes.  This time we're going with Olaf because the PF recently sent me this:

These are adorable and hilarious.  My birthday is coming up, who wants to make me some?

The rest I will just give you without comment because they're all Olaf, they're all cute, and I think each of the nieces should get a pair.

Let me finish by saying that going home and watching Frozen would have been way more fun than going to the gym and lifting weights tonight.  Can someone just dip me in a nice vat of biofreeze please?

Happy Birthday, Hubby!

Today is the hubby's birthday!  It didn't start out so great, what with car issues and a few other annoyances, but it ended up in a good place.  Since it's his birthday, we will celebrate with both shoes and food:

I've posted variations of the cupcake shoes before, especially as people keep posting them to my facebook wall.  They are cute, and I'm sure they would never look like this if I tried to make them.  This would be my birthday selection, though.  The hubby's not so into the cake.  Actually, he doesn't do desserts at all but when he was still eating sweets he was more into

cheesecake of almost any flavor.  Our first year together I made him an insanely rich peanut butter cup cheesecake.  I didn't decorate with a shoe though.

He also loved the donuts.  He's doing great, though.  He can walk by a display of donuts and not even glance twice.  I can totally do the same thing.  With donuts.  Not chocolate.

His favorite might be gummies, though.  Man looooves his gummies.  I got him Dots for some gift-giving occasion one year and was mildly surprised he didn't propose on the spot.

Happy Birthday, Hubby!  (that's rhetorical...he doesn't read the blog)

Home

We are home.  It was a long day.  It's not a bad drive, but we were both tired, so it felt longer.  At least for me, I won't speak for the hubby.  And of course once we got home there was the car to unload and mail to sort and the car to return, and all of those million little things that accompany returning from vacation.  So I am tired and I'm thinking it will be an early night.  I don't have much creativity tonight, so I'll post a picture I've gotten on facebook about 5 times now:

I've posted something similar before, but these have more variety.  They are almost too cute to eat.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to try to make some at some point.  But not tonight as all I will do is maybe dream about cupcakes.

Oh!  We stopped in Reno to use the bathroom and the hubby decided we should do the slots again.  I won $5!  And the hubby won $55.  Grrr....so then I broke the prearranged rules and spent the $5 I won out of annoyance.  But then I won $25!  Yay me!  It was awesome, we were able to fill the beast of a rental car before we returned it.  Good night, all.

Yum!

Another picture from a friend on facebook:

I've been posting a lot of Yeesh kind of shoes lately, so I thought a positive post might be nice.  And this one comes with a sugar rush (even better, a sugar rush that won't go straight to your hips)!  I think these are adorable, and could come in lots of fun colors.  But are they too cute to eat?

On another note, parishioners who mostly see me on Sundays are usually shocked when they see me during the week and I'm wearing flats.  Flats are just so much more practical for running around all day.  Doesn't mean they can't be cute though.  Here are the green ballet flats I'm wearing today...please ignore that my pants are too long.

Finally, the news in the world is that there is a new pope.  Which of course begs the question, what kind of shoes does the pope wear?
