Monkees

You know what I learned at work today?  The Monkees have a new album, their first in 20 years.  The Music Podcast on-air hosts reviewed it and said it was really good.  It made me say huh.  And it also made me sing "Here we come...walking down the street...we get the funniest looks from...everyone we meet..." all afternoon.  There aren't a lot of Monkees shoes like there are Beatles shoes, but here are a few:

So there is your random news of the day.  It's sad that Davy Jones is no longer with us to be a part of the album, but the did like the Beatles did and used some prerecorded tracks so he's on at least part of it.

Hey, guess what?  After the nasty migraine/dry heaving situation last night the hubby let me sleep in this morning!  He went to the office without me, and I didn't go in until 2:00!  I can't remember the last time I was home alone.  It was delightful.

Pink

The hubby stayed home today with what might be pink eye.  Or maybe not.  His eyes are definitely pink and runny, so we figured it was better for him and his germs to stay home.  The puppies and I went and took care of the office and the interns.  Tonight's shoes will match the hubby's eyes:

I'm not a huge fan of pink, but it's important to accessorize appropriately.

Sometime during the afternoon I got a migraine.  At least the dry heaving waited until I got home.  Now I'm going to bed.

Watermelon

So, I've (mostly [sort of]) come to turns with the fact that I am not and never will be perfect.  But does the universe really need to come along and remind me just what a colossal eff up I am?  Today was one of those days, and it sucked.  It got a little better as the day went on, but this morning was not good, I felt terrible, I had major guilt, and sometimes my best doesn't even come close to being good enough.

Tonight I'm moving on and looking at watermelon shoes, because it's National Watermelon Day, even though I did them last year, too.  Besides, I love watermelon, and I don't feel like trying to figure out another theme.

I want to like these, and I'm 80% there, but something falls a little short for me, and I can't put my finger on what it is.

Tie-dye watermelon shoes!  And if they aren't actually tie-dye, I don't want to be disillusioned.

Wow.  And no.  Except, maybe?  They're so wacky they're almost fun.

Cute!

These are weird.  They're weirder when you realize they are knitted or crocheted coverings over booties.  Who comes up with this stuff?

We all needed a nice palate cleanser to round things out.

Now I wish I had some watermelon.  Why did I buy peaches when I went to the store earlier?!

Lake

To be filed under the category of: That Sucks/So Jealous/Man I Wish I Could Apparate, the entire family (except for me, the hubby, and DJ) spend the day here:

I don't know the names of those 2 islands in the distance, but the one my brother is standing to take this picture is Rognlie's Island on Flathead Lake in Montana.  My great-aunt and uncle bought this the island many decades ago and the extended family has had a family reunion here every 4th of July.  It's definitely one of my happy places, and I so wish I could have been there today.

In honor of their day here are some lake shoes:

None of them are Flathead Lake, but that's OK, they're still pretty cool.  I should totally get a pair with a picture of the island on them for the next time we go.  Except that white shoes on the island would be black in about 2.7 seconds.

Hope you had fun today, family.  You all suck and I kind of hate you now.  Hugs and kisses!

Stars

Good grief, how is it August 1st already?  August 1st has quite a few holidays attached to it, including a couple that I talked about last year, but did you also know that today is Woman Astronomers Day? "Maria Mitchell was the first female professional astronomer, first woman to become a professor of astronomy, and the first woman to be elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts in 1918."  So in honor of Maria Mitchell and all women astronomer's (or women who shoot for the stars in one way or another), here are some space shoes:

I love all three of these and would wear them to space-related events.  Because I go to so many of them, you know.

I love neither of these.  Actually the designs are pretty but the shapes are terrible and I'm not going to wear them to any of my fabulous space-themed events.

These are a little bit crazy.  I will wear them to my dressier space-themed events.

So....who's going to invite me to a space-themed event?

Ahhhh

I actually got out of the house today!  The puppies and I went to hang out with SKD, and had a fabulous time soaking up the sunshine and splashing in the river.  It was the first day under 100 in something like 10 days, so it was lovely all around.  I posted this to my Instagram and Facebook pages when we first got there:

Several people commented on the sign of the apocalypse that is me in flip flops.  I do wear them occasionally, especially for watery events.  I had my Keene's too, but wore my flip flops.  I don't know, y'all...I have issues.

Anyhoo, this got me thinking about water shoes.  When I was in college and working at bible camp Teva's were what the cool kids were wearing.  I was never a cool kid and I had knock-offs that never fit quite right and definitely weren't cool  So tonight I went looking at Teva's just for the sake of nostalgia:

These are all the happy medium between my Keene's and my flip flops.  The auntie actually gave me a pair of similar sandals when I was home last time but they broke the first time wore them, sadly.  Oh well.  It was a delightfully lovely day despite my lack of cool-kid footwear.

Rainbow Ballet

My voice is all scritchy scratchy tonight.  I've been trying to catch up on podcasts so I did 4 bible study episodes today.  It might not sound like much, but each episode is a little over a half an hours, so that's 2+ hours of me blah blah blahing.  So now my voice is scritchy scratchy.

Today is National Dance Day, so between that and 2+ hours of talking about God's promises I ended up searching for rainbow ballet flats.  Here are a few selections:

I have no idea what this Rainbow Ballet is about, but I would definitely go see it.
