Sadness

My heart is sad today for 2 friends in particular.  SKD texted me this morning to tell me that their beloved Lucy died this morning.  She was a Chihuaha/something or other, and she had the sweetest, funniest little underbite ever:

They are heartbroken, of course.  She's been with them for 11 years and will be missed.

Yesterday I found out that The Coffee Friend's dog, Marty was diagnosed with metastatic cancer. It's already spread to his lungs, liver, kidney. It began in the right sinus and that tumor is now protruding against his skull. She made the heart-rending decision to have him relieved of his pain.  She will have the weekend with him and say good-bye on Monday.  Marty is the cutest Labradoodle I know:

Neither option is good.  In one you don't have a chance to say good-bye and in the other you get that chance but have to wait for what's coming.  I want to hug both of them.  SKD is closer, but I still can't get to her right now, and The Coffee Friend is in Wisconsin.

I don't want to do puppy shoes because it seems too sad.  Instead I will do rainbow shoes tonight in honor of these beloved pets who are making their last trip over the rainbow bridge.

Hug your fur babies extra close tonight, and please pray for these dear friends.

Socks

I read the post I wrote last year on February 1st, and it kind of cracked me up because I could have written the exact same post today (except that I'm wearing different socks).  Speaking of socks...I MUST show you the socks SKD got me for Christmas!  You know, now that I've worn them and taken pictures of them all.

How fun are these in all of their crazy color combos?  They both match everything and at the same time match nothing, so I just wear them with whatever.  Plus, they are really thick and comfy and squishy, which is awesome.  So, basically the underlying theme of this post is that I'm one of those people who really really likes getting socks for Christmas.

Crochet Snowflakes

I did actually do some crocheting for Christmas this year, but for some reason I haven't gotten around to posting any of it.  Maybe because I forgot to take pictures of the stuff I did while I was in Montana.  Oops.  I did take a picture of what I crocheted for SKD (which she finally got on Saturday when we finally found time to get together):

I started experimenting with making snowflakes like my Auntie Barbara Ann and Grandma Sylvia used to do. The thread and crochet hook are both teeny tiny, and some of them turned out better than others.  I think my favorites in this picture are the 2 smaller blue ones.  I told SKD that one day we would be financially solvent enough that I could actually buy her gifts instead of crocheting her random things every year for Christmas.  She's a very good spot about it.

Obviously today's shoes will have a crochet snowflake theme:

I think this is cute, but the hole cracks me up.  Does a baby booty really need a handle for the kid to yank up their shoes?

These are interesting, but a little too much.  I'm not sure what it is about them, but I just can't quite get on board, even though I appreciate the effort.

Awww, so cute!

Okie dokie.  Back to work.  I'm taking a quick break because my head is pounding (on that note...I actually had a Dr's appointment this morning to talk about the horrible headaches I keep getting, but I canceled it due to a conflict.  Clearly the universe is now punishing me for that decision).

Twinsies

Today I am thankful for good friends and baby spoiling.  I hung out with SKD today, and this morning got to spend time with her while she was babysitting her great niece and nephew who are 2 year old twins and absolutely adorable.  The girl was cracking me up because she kept saying "no no, boy" and "uh oh, boy" to her brother whenever he did something she thought he shouldn't.  This was always accompanied by a disapproving look and a wagging finger. Both kiddos are really sweet and I had a blast with them.  And then I had a fabulous afternoon with their auntie.  Tonight's shoes are inspired by twins:

I love both of these, but can we please get away from the strict gender binaries of pink and blue?

Still pink, but look! Green!

I know they aren't shoes, and we're back to pink and blue, but these are adorable.

Yay, throwing a little purple in the mix, which is the girl twins favorite color.  She says puhple.

I am grateful for a good day.

Ahhhh

I actually got out of the house today!  The puppies and I went to hang out with SKD, and had a fabulous time soaking up the sunshine and splashing in the river.  It was the first day under 100 in something like 10 days, so it was lovely all around.  I posted this to my Instagram and Facebook pages when we first got there:

Several people commented on the sign of the apocalypse that is me in flip flops.  I do wear them occasionally, especially for watery events.  I had my Keene's too, but wore my flip flops.  I don't know, y'all...I have issues.

Anyhoo, this got me thinking about water shoes.  When I was in college and working at bible camp Teva's were what the cool kids were wearing.  I was never a cool kid and I had knock-offs that never fit quite right and definitely weren't cool  So tonight I went looking at Teva's just for the sake of nostalgia:

These are all the happy medium between my Keene's and my flip flops.  The auntie actually gave me a pair of similar sandals when I was home last time but they broke the first time wore them, sadly.  Oh well.  It was a delightfully lovely day despite my lack of cool-kid footwear.

May 21

This is the post that I meant to do yesterday but the stupid headache wouldn't let me.  The headache is still lingering today, but it's not as bad thank goodness.  So yesterday was a good day although a bit emotional.  First, it was Pippi's 9th birthday!  She is sweet and smart and sassy and has always had the ability to crack me up.  Even as a baby her personality was awesome.  Here are some shoes named after her:

I'd say this was sweet and sassy.

I'd like to see this in a color but couldn't find it.  I like the detailing on the heel, it reminds me of fairies somehow.

Yesterday was also emotional as I went to a memorial service to say good-bye to a beautiful woman from St. Someone's.  She was a bright light during my time there and always made me feel loved, supported and appreciated.  It was clear from the remembrances and people's conversations that she made everyone she met feel that same way.   I  love this picture the family had displayed in the sanctuary:

Wasn't she beautiful?  She had the same first name as my mama, just spelled differently.  Here are shoes named after her (with that spelling):

She was always well-dressed and had great accessories.  I'm not sure if these orange ones would have been to her taste, but I'm sure she would have figured out the right outfit to pull them off with.

After the service I met SKD and took her for a 1 day less than a month late birthday pedicure.  She gave me a belated birthday present, too, and hers was awesome:

She MADE me Beatles cups!  Isn't she just the coolest?

Her cup is way better than these shoes, that's for sure.  I hope she likes her cute orange toenails as much as I like my new Beatles cups.

This post is still not what it was in my head, but at least it's out.  Stupid lingering headache.  I'm not even going to tell you how much caffeine and meds I ingested yesterday just to get the dumb thing down to a dull roar.  It's still making my brain mushy, but then everything seems to be doing that these days.  Poor mushy

Spring Forward

Did you remember to set your clocks forward last night?  I feel bad for the hubby who lost 3 hours flying to the east coast yesterday and then another hour due to Daylight Savings Time starting.  I'm sure his body is totally confused right now.  In honor of the (unnecessary? [it has been argued]) time change I give you clock shoes:

These are Dr. Who shoes, as you can see from the Tardis on the right, but I also like the colors and the twirly swirly clocks.

I have to say that this is rather ugly.  But hey, it goes with the theme, and it's not the worst shoe I've ever seen.

I thought this was a clock at first, but...there's only 10 shoes on this.  So it's just a circle.  Let's pretend it's a clock with shoes for numbers, though, because I think that would be kind of fun and quirky in the right space.

I think this is really cute.   And accurate.  If the shoe fits, I usually do want more.

I can't see myself wearing this, but it goes with the theme.  I might be persuaded to wear a simpler shoe watch, though.

3 Things:
  1. More hangout time with SKD.
  2. The first trip of moving stuff to the new house.
  3. A day that was a mixture of laziness and productiveness in terms of sorting and packing.

Sleepover!

This will be a quick post because I'm having a sleepover with SKD!  The hubby flew to Pittsburgh today for training so she and I are having some much needed girl time.  Especially since I haven't seen her since Christmas Eve.  We are hanging out in PJs, and for some reason she is wearing BLUE PJs tonight.  She is one of my green girls, what is she thinking?  They're very cute, though, blue with lighter blue polka dots.  So here are (more) blue polka dot shoes:

Love.  Want.

Ditto.

Um...why do I even bother typing?  Of course I want these, too.

These might actually be black?  Maybe they're navy?  They're my least favorite so far, but still cute.

It's still raining here, so these are appropriate.

And the obligatory PB shoe.

3 Things:
  1. Sleepover!  It's good to hang out again.
  2. I had a nap with puppies this afternoon.  It was delightful.
  3. Homemade pizza.  Yay for baking AND for eating.

No Salt, Please

Today is National Margarita Day!  Margaritas are my drink of choice on the rare occasions when I actually go out.  I like them on the rocks, no salt (SKD thinks I'm crazy for skipping the salt).  When I lived in Texas I could get margaritas as big as my head.  Then I moved to the Bay Area and they were a quarter of the size for twice the price.  The BFF and I once made margaritas that tasted like feet.  And yet we still drank them (there is MUCH more to that story that I am not going to share).  I've even done a margarita post before, but I went and found some more shoes since today is a holiday and all.

I really like the pop of green against the black shoe, I just wish it were a different style of shoe.

These are horrible and hilarious all at once.

Aaaahhhh...makes me want to sit on a nice warm (but not too warm) beach with a book and a margarita or 2.

Clearly if I'm going to drink margaritas they should be out of a shoe themed glass.

That is one ugly shoe.  The margarita detail is actually cute, but the shoe is not.

I'm a lightweight, so I definitely can't drink a margarita the size of my head anymore.  But I wouldn't mind a tiny drink to celebrate.  I won't get one, but a girl can dream.

3 Things:
  1. SKD's mom had surgery today, and things went well, so I am grateful for that, and will continue to pray for her recovery.
  2. I helped one of our new employees set something up on her Outlook today and she told me I was her hero.  She was being a bit facetious, but hey, I'll take it.
  3. I got to talk to my seester today for a bit.  I'd just been thinking of her when she called.  Seester telepathic communication!
