And Also With You

Happy Star Wars Day!  I have always loved Star Wars and am very happy that this is a holiday, even if I haven't had time to watch anything Star Wars-y today.  The day started with me getting Double A and The Bean up for school as they spent the night last night (yay) since I left today (boo).  Turns out I'm THAT mom (auntie) who drops her kids (nieces) off at school wearing her pajamas and slippers.  They were fed and dressed and had their homework, I just wasn't exactly put together.  I even got out of the car for good-bye hugs which meant people witnessed my lovely, bra-less attire.  The kiddos didn't seem to care, though.  After I finished packing and actually showered and dressed, Mom, Dad and I headed off to the seester's and from there we went to Flower's school for her 4th grade school program.  She was awesome!  She was a pirate in the show, which was all about pirates, but even more awesome, she was in a special choir called Kids in Motion that is comprised of 3-5 graders.  AND even more awesomer, she is also part of the Junk Band, which is a percussion group that uses things like buckets and garbage cans, etc.  She was so good, and it was so fun!  Also, she was totally the cutest pirate in the whole show.  After a couple of hours hanging out with the fam it was time to head to the airport.  Sigh.  I'm currently in the Salt Lake airport, having completed the first part of my journey.  I have a 3 hour layover and free wi-fi, so thought I'd do a quick post.  I'm so lucky and blessed to have had 2 weeks at home with my family, but it always tears me apart a little bit to leave.  I miss the hubby and am looking forward to seeing the puppies and dragons, but I hate leaving the fam.  Yes, I am a 41 year old woman who wants her mommy.  And her siblings, and auntie, and nieces.  I love being with them.

Back to Star Wars Day.  Part of the reason I was less than put together for school drop-off this morning was because the girls wanted Star Wars hair for school.  I am not great at doing my own hair, let alone someone else's, but we watched some Youtube tutorials last night and came up with the following:

The Bean has Rey's hair from The Force Awakens.

Double A has Princess Leia's Cloud City hair from The Empire Strikes Back.  I thought they turned out pretty well considering I have no experience and we only decided last night to give it a shot.  

That was the hair, let's look at shoes! 

Our friends at Irregular Choice even have Star Wars shoes!  Poor R2-D2 is being stepped on.

The artwork isn't great on these (although WAY better than I could ever do), but I like that they're of the newest movie.

 

Awww...BB-8 is adorable, as are these shoes, although BB-8 seems implied rather than explicit.  Maybe he's on the other side.

Sigh

I woke up grumpy this morning.  I had weird dreams and just felt blah.  Then I found out that Carrie Fisher died and I got even grumpier.  It's not like I knew her or anything, but Princess Leia and the Star Wars movies were a huge part of my childhood.  The brother always made me be Princess Leia when we played Star Wars because I'm a girl, and that was OK, because she was awesome, but I REALLY wanted to be Han Solo.  I had a thing for the bad boy even as a child.  As an adult, I can totally appreciate Leia more, though.  She was a badass.  I mean, hello, she strangled Jabba the Hutt with a chain, she freed Han from carbonite, she led the rebellion.  She was awesome.  She's awesome in the new movies, too, and I'm interested (and sad) to see how her death will play out in those movies. You should go here and read about how awesome General Organa truly is (I will warn you in advance: there is language).  It's not just Star Wars that had me loving Carrie Fisher, though.  Have you seen The Blues Brothers?  She's hilarious.  Her character is psychotic, but hilarious.  I also love her in When Harry Met Sally; she had some amazing lines in that movie that I still quote with the Seester.  

I wanted to find Princess Leia shoes for tonight's post, but sadly they were few and far between, and I couldn't find any with just her on them.  Yoda, Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2, BB-8, Darth Maul, random Stormtroopers, all get their own shoe, but Leia?  Nope.  So rude.

Notice how these all have the same picture?  I mean, hooray for her shooting her way off the Death Star, but you couldn't find ANY other picture to put on the shoes?

I'm not a fan of the style, but I like these a little better, at least.

Finally a little variety, but still not enough.  Clearly I need to get Double A and The Bean on shoe duty and paint me some Princess Leia shoes.  I always liked her outfit and hair in Empire Strikes Back when they were on Cloud City:

In other news, today was also rough, and hence the grumpy, because it was one of those days where my life feels pointless.  I know, I know, my life isn't pointless, but today my brain decided to tell me all of the reasons why I should think it is.  I won't bore you with them, but the brain did make some valid points.  It's not like I'm setting the world on fire or anything.  I'm not even setting the world on ember.  Hell, there's not even any smoke.  I'm taking my grumpy butt to bed and hoping tomorrow is a better day.

Star Wars

 

I love Star Wars.  I wanted to be either Princess Leia or Han Solo growing up (my brother always made me play Princess Leia because I was a girl.  I thought that was highly unfair).  I saw this clip on facebook the other day and shared it with the hubby today.  We both agreed we would watch this movie.  So, as we all know, once I start thinking about something I have to google it.  So here we go...Star Wars Shoes...

 



 

They are all hilarious.  I might even wear a  pair some day.  Maybe.  There would have to be some pretty specific circumstances.   Oooooh....like going to see Episode 7 when it comes out.  Wonder if I could get the hubby to wear the Yoda shoes?

Happy Birthdays

You might remember that February 6 is a pretty awesome day as it is the birthday of 2 of my favorite people, The Nephew and the BSF!

The Nephew is 6 today, and like any self-respecting 6 year old, he loves Star Wars (he also loves The Beatles, so you know I approve).  Today he's having a Darth Vader cake, so I thought I'd go find him some Star Wars Shoes.

Darth Vader tennies!  I think we both need a pair.

As well as a pair of Chewbacca slippers.  These are adorable and crack me up.

I also want a pair of these.  Apparently The Nephew and I need a Star Wars imaginary shoe closet.

If you haven't seen the new movie you might not recognize the new droid, BB8,  alongside R2D2.  I like that this pair combines the old and new.

I don't actually know how to segue into the next set of pictures except to move from The Nephew to the BSF and try not to worry about making it a smooth transition.  The BSF shares my love of shoes (hence her nickname).  Since this is also Super Bowl weekend, I went with a sports theme.  The BSF got her first (of like 8 million) Masters Degrees at KU and worked there as a sports therapist for many years before decided to go to seminary.  The Jayhawk was the first college mascot I actually recognized outside my own school.  So, in honor of that, and her birthday, here are some Jayhawk shoes.

Hope

It has been in the 80s here the last couple of days.  For those of you who woke up to snow in the past week, I apologize.  I would gladly send you some of our heat so we can all have a happy medium, because I'm not ready for hot yet.  But the sun was lovely, and maybe the Vitamin D helped my mood. After yesterday's post about friendship, today I am actually feeling hope for the first time in what feels like forever.  It might be short lived, it might turn around tomorrow and bite me in the rear, or maybe it will blossom into good things.  I don't know, but I'm sure as heck enjoying it while it's hanging around.  In the spirit of hope I figured I'd type "hope shoes" into image search and see what popped up.

We all know I can't wear white shoes or they would be completely filthy in about 5 minutes.  I like the style of these, though, and I'm going to pretend that the lighter color is actually gray or silver, because then they would be the colors of my alma mater, and that would be fun.

This one is sort of cheating?  But not really.  The name of the first (technically 4th, but you know what I mean) Star Wars movie is A New Hope, even though everyone just tends to call it Star Wars.  Besides, it's my blog and I say it counts.

 

I want to like these.  They're so close.  The colors are fun.  There's just something about the velvet that doesn't quite sit right with me.  I'm not quite sure what it is.

 

I love the colors on this one (duh) and you know I love stripes.  This isn't 100% for me, but I still think it's fun and quirky.

This one is my favorite.  Love the colors and the stripes.  It makes me happy.  As do you you, my friends.  Thank you for being in my life and helping contribute to my feeling of hope.  I hope (hee) I can do the same for you in some small fashion.

May the Fourth

It has actually been a fairly busy few days, so I have some catching up to do since my last post on Friday.

Saturday was Double A's 15th birthday, which just sounds crazy.  How is it possible this adorable baby is now taking driver's ed?

She was the happiest, sweetest baby, and has turned into the happiest, sweetest young woman.  I don't live with her, so I don't know for absolute sure, but she doesn't even seem to be going through a terribly horrible teenage phase.

 

She's my green girl, so here are some green (flat) shoes for her.

Saturday we also had people over to watch the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.  Eh...not my cup of tea, but the hubby enjoyed it, and we got to see a couple of people we hadn't seen in quite awhile, so that was nice.  Boxing shoes are weird, but blue for me and green for AA.

Yesterday I preached and led worship for the first time in over a year.  It went pretty well, actually.  I only made one ginormous mistake during the liturgy, and only almost fell off the step in the pulpit once (I preached with my shoes ON, how was I supposed to feel where my feet were?)  The Gospel text was from John where Jesus says, "I am the Vine, you are the branches."  So we have some really crazy grape shoes, and some slightly less crazy grape flip flops (in green, of course, for AA).

I wore new turquoise shoes that I bought with my birthday coupons at Kohl's:

And today is May 4th, so if you're a Star Wars nerd you know that today you say, "May the Fourth be with you."  I am a Star Wars nerd, so this makes me giggle.  I love the R2D2 shoes, am a little frightened by the Darth Vader shoes, and again included some awesome green shoes for Awesome A.

So there you have.  Many themes, one post.  Time for bed.

Have I mentioned lately that the Pinterest Friend is awesome?  Yesterday was Charmander's and Squirtle's  4th birthday (how many is that in dragon years, I wonder?) and she sent me this:

Heehee.  This totally makes me giggle.  The dragons would love to be able to breathe fire, I'm sure.  As Mother of Dragons, I'm very happy that they can't.

 

She also sent me this recently.  Isn't it cool?  Not as an actual shoe, but as art I think it's really pretty.  I tried to find more like this but didn't succeed, so I went to my fallback and checked out what holidays are happening today:

 

Wow, January 2nd is packed.  I love that it's both National Buffet and Cream Puff Day and Motivation and Inspiration and Personal Trainer Awareness Day.  You'll definitely need the second after the first!

 

I am amused that today is Fruitcake Toss Day.  I am also amused that doing a search for fruitcake shoes actually yielded results.

 

In honor of the holidays as well as my usual resolution to be more health conscious, blue and green tennis shoes!

National Science Fiction Day might be my favorite.  I'm feeling a little lazy, though, so will simply point you in the direction of previously done Science Fictiony posts:  Star Wars and Star Trek.  There are others, I'm sure, but again...lazy.  That, and the fact that we've been at the office again all day while the house is being shown and I've been working on the AdWords campaign, which always makes me a little loopy.  I'm lucky this post has any coherent sentences in it at all.

Now go toss some fruitcake, eat some cream puffs, work out, and watch/read some science fiction!
