Happy Birthdays

You might remember that February 6 is a pretty awesome day as it is the birthday of 2 of my favorite people, The Nephew and the BSF!

The Nephew is 6 today, and like any self-respecting 6 year old, he loves Star Wars (he also loves The Beatles, so you know I approve).  Today he's having a Darth Vader cake, so I thought I'd go find him some Star Wars Shoes.

Darth Vader tennies!  I think we both need a pair.

As well as a pair of Chewbacca slippers.  These are adorable and crack me up.

I also want a pair of these.  Apparently The Nephew and I need a Star Wars imaginary shoe closet.

If you haven't seen the new movie you might not recognize the new droid, BB8,  alongside R2D2.  I like that this pair combines the old and new.

I don't actually know how to segue into the next set of pictures except to move from The Nephew to the BSF and try not to worry about making it a smooth transition.  The BSF shares my love of shoes (hence her nickname).  Since this is also Super Bowl weekend, I went with a sports theme.  The BSF got her first (of like 8 million) Masters Degrees at KU and worked there as a sports therapist for many years before decided to go to seminary.  The Jayhawk was the first college mascot I actually recognized outside my own school.  So, in honor of that, and her birthday, here are some Jayhawk shoes.

These are cute.  I would wear them.

These are hilarious and weird and awesome and I want some with my college mascot on them.

Of course I had to find a pair of sparkly heels!

Happy Birthday, Nephew and BSF!  So happy to have both of you in my life!

Friends

Today is Friends Day on Facebook.  Facebook is celebrating its 12th birthday by putting together videos showcasing pictures of people's Facebook friends.  I didn't share my video (although I watched it), but decided I'd celebrate my friends with shoes.  Facebook "friends" run the gamut from family to best friends to acquaintances, to people I've never met.  I can't do shoes for all of them (546 friends would take forever), but I'll do a few.  So, in no particular order:

I have lots of friends who love green:  Mom, the Seester, Double A, and SKD, to name a few.  None of them wear heels, so I went with tennies.  Even though blue is my favorite, I'm also a fan of green, and I really like this shade.

Owls for the Pinterest Friend!  She's not into heels, either, but how adorable is this shoe?

Both the BFF and The Bean love purple.  The Bean is my mini-me, and loves her some heels.

We'll go with flats for the BFF.  I think these are adorable.  Flower also likes purple, and as she's only 10 she doesn't really need heels.

These are for the BSF.  I'm not entirely sure why, even.  I liked them, and they reminded me of her, so  there you have it, I guess.

I've posted these before, but they're my favorite of the adult moose shoes.  These, of course, are for my auntie.

There are lots more friends I could find shoes for.  I hope they don't feel left out.  I still love them and want to wish them a Happy Friends Day!

I got something like 21/36 hours of sleep in the last 2 days, so I'm feeling so very much better.  I could actually still go for a nap, but at least I've gotten some good sleep and it's actually helping.

The Big 4-0

Today is my birthday, at least for another half hour or so.  It was a very nice day, starting with breakfast in bed from the hubby, 2 new pairs of shoes from my parents (I'll show you tomorrow), and then an outing with the hubby and puppies to Amador County to have a picnic and a walk.  It was a gorgeous day, even if it did gum up my eyes and clog up my sinuses (which is actually my fault since I've stopped getting my shots and taking most of my allergy meds because it's all so frickin' expensive).  But let's talk about shoes instead. I thought about finding a pair for each year of my life, but that seemed extreme, so we'll just go with every 5 years.

1975.  I'm an adorable newborn-8 1/2 month old.  Here are some awesome pansy shoes for my mama.

1980.  I started Kindergarten, despite almost not being able to tie my own shoes.  Being the saucy child that I was, I told the teacher at Kindergarten roundup that it didn't matter because I would just wear my buckle shoes.  Those are some crazy colorful shoes up there, and I was a blonde 5 year old.

1985.  I'm in 4th and 5th grade, slightly less blonde, and have been wearing glasses for several years.  In 5th grade I got bifocals, oh joy.  These shoes are still bright, but slightly less crazy and more geometrical.

1990.  Love the embroidered shoes.  No idea really what kind of shoes I myself was wearing.  I was in 9th and 10th grades and had a perm so I could have big, 90s hair.  My glasses were stylishly huge, and I'm wearing my dad's jacket from the 60s or 70s.

1995.  I've been out of school since 1993, but still living at home, doing daycare for a family in my hometown.  I looooooved those babies (still do, even if they are all old now).  I chopped my hair off, and had been wearing contacts for about 3 years.

2000.  Love the red hounds tooth!  In January I moved to Plano, TX to live with my auntie, after graduating from college in December of 1999.  I learned to drive in traffic, got my first real jobs, and apparently posed in the shrubs in front of my bedroom windows.  Oh, and Double A was born in May, big sister DJ was 3.

2005.  2 years into seminary, and I headed off to internship, which sucked, so we shall not speak of it.  But, the year started with my spending 3 weeks on Oahu with the BSF.  She was doing her internship in Honolulu and I got to do my cross-cultural experience.  It was awesome.  The Bean was born in 2003, so I was up to 3 nieces.

2010. Stripey and strappy shoes.  Can't go wrong there.  I finished my first call in March and moved back to CA in July.  The nephew and Laughter were born. I met the man who would become the hubby. The couch is close to not holding all of us.

2015.  The shoes are crazy, but I actually really like them.  I am on-leave from call and my life is more complicated than in 2010, but way less complicated than 2014.   The only picture I have of myself so far this year is with this adorable young miss from St. Someone.

This post took way too long because the internet kept going out.  It's no longer my birthday, and I must go to bed because I am old.

Thanks, BSF

Today was...interesting.  Busy, stressful, weird, a little depressing, emotional roller coaster, and a few other things I can't put a name to.  Suffice to say, I'm glad it's over.  On a better note, I still have awesome friends who make me feel awesome through their awesomeness.  For instance, the BSF sent me this fabulous shoe card last week:

On the inside it says, "apparently we have issues."  It made me giggle.  But we don't have issues.  You can't have too many pairs of red shoes.  Really.  Black, either.  But red shoes are happy and cheerful, which like this card, make my day happier.  And baby shoes are even happier, so I'm going with those tonight instead of big girl shoes.

I posted on my Facebook the other day how our neighbor, out of the blue, told the hubby and me that she sensed another presence when she looked at us and that she's never wrong about pregnancy predictions.  Yeah, she was wrong about this one.  But, it still made me think about babies, their cute little feet, and shoes for those cute little feet.

I hope your day was a good one, or at least involved awesome friends and/or cute little baby feet or shoes.

Birthdays

I'm going to start this post by backtracking to February 6th, which was both the BSF's and The Nephew's birthday.  The Nephew turned 5, and the BSF is always the perfect age.  I didn't post that day, so I haven't yet shown you the calendar page for that date.

Part of the reason I wasn't quick to post it is that it's not good.  It's downright weird, and the BSF totally deserves better.  If they wanted to go with a red booty/ankle boot, there are a million better options out there.  Here are 3:

I personally can't really pull off the ankle boot look, but that doesn't mean I have to be mean and only show ugly ones.  The Nephew could totally pull off ankle boots if they were like the ones The Beatles wore.  And since he's an awesome Beatles fan like his mama and auntie, it would make the look even better.

Today would have been my auntie's (dad's sister) 78th birthday.  It is also the Seminary Roommate's birthday.  For the record, the BSF was also my seminary roommate, but she already has a nickname, and this way I don't have to number the seminary roommates.  I'm thinking the SR got a way better deal on the shoe calendar.  I actually really like these for spring.  The SR is not one for heels, but she always shows up with the cutest practical shoes you've ever seen.

These totally remind me of her, probably because she had a pair of adorable red flats that I totally coveted while we were living together.  Yep, I was a total commandment breaker, even (possibly especially?) in seminary.

Happy belated, current, and memorial birthdays to 4 of my favorite people ever!

Alcohol or Chocolate

The puppies have been driving me absolutely crazy today.  It started this morning when I discovered they'd pooped in 2 different spots in the house and peed  in a couple others.  Chalupa would NOT stop barking.  Only Tallulah got a treat at bath time because Chalupa jumped out and ran all over the house, spraying water everywhere.  They are chewing frigging everything.  Tallulah keeps licking my underwear, regardless of whether I'm wearing it or not.  Yeah.  Yuck.  I realize these are just puppy things and they will get better, but today I woke up with a pounding headache and dealing with stinky puppies was not on my list of things to get excited about.  If I was drinking right now I think I would have definitely indulged in something.  Instead I went with chocolate.  I got sucked in by the peanut butter cup Oreos at the grocery store tonight.  Yum.

But enough grumpy puppy stories, let's move on to shoes.  I actually quite enjoyed a calendar picture for once, which hasn't happened much lately.  This was the picture from the weekend:

Terrible picture, but they are really cute lime green and turquoise flats.  They reminded me of the shoes the BSF wore to my wedding, and a pair I picked out for Double A in a recent(ish) post.

Obviously (hopefully), hers are the green and blue ones under the green dress.  They are super cute, and I am jealous, especially since she can wear slingbacks when I can't.  Bitch.

I wish I knew what these are, because they are so very Double A.  She would look adorabl(er) in them.

I actually forgot to turn the calendar to today's picture until around 5:00 tonight, and I'm glad I did, as today's picture was this:

I didn't need to stare at this all day.  Pink stilettos with gold spikes and toe fluff.  I've decided that the woman who would wear these is a biker chick with a pink poodle.

But back to green and blue.  Here are some more selections for you:

Cute!  And I've probably posted them before, but oh well.

Also cute.  I wish they weren't leather in the back and suede in the  front, though.  Just makes it look like they took 2 different shoes and smooshed them together.  And maybe that's how they're supposed to look.  Who am I to judge?  Just kidding, I totally love to judge!

I admit it.  I like these. I would wear them.  Except that I seem to have lost the ability to walk in heels.  I wore a pair for roughly an hour yesterday and then said screw it and put on flats. Let's pretend that since these are wedges I could still wear them, kay?

Just no.  Unless it's the 80s and then maybe.  Nope.  Still no.

This is crazy.  I almost like it.  Not totally, but almost.  I think the toe is square.  Odd choice; I think they would look better with a pointed toe.

Well, the puppies are asleep and looking adorable, so I think I should enjoy the quiet for awhile.
