Escapist Yarn

Ugh, I can't even with today.  If I try to write about it I will will verbally vomit and vent all over you, and this is neither the time nor the place for that.  Instead, I will say that I just started a new book, about a woman who owns a yarn shop and teaches knitting classes.  I would like to escape into a yarn store, but instead I will just look at pictures of crocheted shoes.

Baby shoes always make me feel better.

Department of Redundancy Department

Apparently today is Repeat Day.  Which sounds like that annoying day when your big brother follows you around and says everything you say and drives you to insane extremes.  I follow Sandra Boynton on Facebook, and she posted this today:

Way cuter than my brother ever was.  So here are some repetitive shoes for you to enjoy.

I'm feeling remarkably un-chatty tonight.  So, the end.

Surprise Visit

Tuesdays have become all about the dog hair.  Tuesdays are the one day a week the hubby commutes to SF, which means I can do things like vacuum and run the dryer.   You know, the noisy stuff I can't do when he works from home and is on the phone all the time.  So I wash sheets and blankets and clean puppy hair out of the dryer screen.  I vacuum, and clean puppy hair out of the vacuum filter.  I give the puppies a bath (clean sheets mean clean puppies), and clean puppy hair out of the tub.  Seriously, how can two such tiny creatures produce so much hair?!

Today, though, brought us dog hair of a different kind.  This morning the puppies and I were in the kitchen when I heard the dog door open and saw a white blur out of the corner of my eye.  Since my dogs are brown and were both next to me, I went to investigate.  Turns out it was the beagle who lives behind us.  I had no idea how she got in our yard as when I looked I couldn't find any loose boards in the fence.  So I called her owners and her dad came and got her.  When he got here he said that earlier this morning his wife saw Misti (the beagle) coming through the fence and back into their yard.  She went and got a hammer and nails and fixed the loose board, but apparently in the time it took her to get back Misti had returned to our yard and got locked in.  I'm not sure how long she was back there before she discovered the dog door and invited herself in.  Misti the Beagle went back home, and we got a more adventurous Tuesday morning than we normally get.

In honor of Misti: The Beagle Adventurer:

This Beagle does not look terribly impressed with wearing shoes.  But it looks pretty cute doing it.

Why would you want to step all over those cute little faces?

I don't know if those are Beagles or not, but they're awfully adorable.

This is weird and a little creepy.

Is it weird and/or creepy that I kind of like this?   I wouldn't wear it, but something about it appeals to me.

The shoe is staring at me.  Make the shoe stop staring at me.

I hope your day was full of surprises and lacking in dog hair.

Grouch

Most of today was really good.  SKD's son graduated from high school last week, and his graduation party was this afternoon.  The hubby had to work, but the puppies and I got to go hang out at a lovely spot by the river for a couple of hours, and it was really really nice.  Then we met a friend for coffee and I got to meet his mom, who is absolutely wonderful, and we had a great conversation.  So it was a really good day until the drive home when my contact on the call committee I interviewed with called to say they are going with another candidate.  I'm not completely surprised, but I'm still disappointed.  I hate the call process.  I know it's not like this for everyone, but for me it's just an exercise in constant disappointment.  In think in the 3 times I've been in the process I've interviewed something like 15 times and been rejected 13.  It's hard, and I immediately wanted to curl up and sleep for a week (yay depression!), but that would have been a really bad idea as I was driving.

Moving on.  Did you know it was National Go Barefoot Day today?  Pretty awesome for barefootedness.  Not as helpful for a shoe blog.   But, it was also Oscar the Grouch Day!  And since that works for the latter half of my day, I'm going with it.

This last one cracks me up a lot.  Who would wear these?  Or who could wear these without giggling at their own feet all day?  Maybe I need a pair for the grouchy days so I can giggle at my feet.  I wouldn't wear them out of the house as I'd be too embarrassed, but a pair of giggle shoes might be just the thing.

Primary

I love primary colors.  So fun.  And yes, that was a totally random first sentence, but who needs a coherent lead-in?  Probably lots of people.  Me included when I'm in grammar obsessed mode.  But tonight we're just jumping in (albeit with that brief tangent about grammar and composition).  Let's look at primary colored shoes, 'kay?

I'm not completely sold on the flower on these, but like the basic ballet flat.

Along with real ballet shoes.  This is a really cool picture.

Hmmm...I have blue and red pumps but not yellow.  Not from lack of trying, I just haven't found a pair yet.

Um...OK.  I'm not completely sure what to say about this one.  Like the colors, not so sure about the actual design.

Awwww...little girl shoes.  Adorable.

Well these are interesting.  And my interesting I mean weird.

Ohhhhh the ribbon possibilities!

Speaking of weird.  They're bright at least?  I do like the colors, but it's just a little too much.

Bright and fun.  2 things I like in shoes, even when the shoes are weird.  Since I skimped on the intro, I'm also going to let you write your own conclusion.  It's like a choose your own adventure book, only less fun.

Ribbons

The other night I wrote about how I loved these shoelaces more than the shoes (or at least loved the shoes because of the shoelaces).

Mom wrote in  a comment that I could just go buy the ribbon and have my very own pair.  To which I had to smack myself in the forehead and say, "well, duh!"  She's so smart.  Tonight as I was out running errands I took a detour to find some ribbon.  I didn't find this particular ribbon (I will keep looking), but found a couple of other choices.  Wanna see?  Of course you do!

See?  Fun!  Or maybe I'm just odd, but I kind of don't care, because I think these are fun.

As are these.  Look how well the blue polka dots match the blue shoes!  I think I might have found a new obsession.  Thankfully ribbon is cheap.   Do you think I could do a kickstarter campaign for canvas shoe money?  Here are some other fun examples of ribbon shoelaces:

These make me think of a bumblebee.  Or really peppy prison shoes?  What do you think...are the white with black stripes or black with white stripes?

Adorable!

Oooh...I love these polka dot ribbons. So fun.

Pig ribbons!  AND a patchwork shoe!

Today was an extremely difficult day.  It's the hubby and work, and I don't want to go into it, but he didn't have a good day, and he was super depressed.  So of course I was super depressed, and felt like it was my fault.  Which it isn't, I know this.  But the fact that I don't have a job is certainly my fault.  So I took on way too many emotions today, not all of them mine.  I need a job.  (don't get me started on how big of a loser I feel about still not having that particular poop in a group)  I got ribbon shoelaces.  Not really a comparable tradeoff, but at least the ribbons perked me up quite a bit.

Let's Go on a Picnic!

I almost forgot to post a batch of pictures the Pinterest Friend sent me awhile back.  I'm not sure if she was going for a theme, but they made me think of picnics.  Which sounds fun.  Who wants to go with me?

OK, so these aren't exactly practical picnic shoes, but you know how I love gingham, and these say picnic to me.  Just a picnic with concrete so those cute heels don't sink in the grass.

Baby picnic shoes!  Or other stuff, too, but hey, work with me on the picnic theme, OK?

I'm kind of wondering if that top pair is actually this watermelon pair.  I don't think so, because I don't think these have bows, but how cute are these?  Could I wear one red and one blue?  Too much?

More adorable baby shoes.  Watermelon and ants on the 4th of July.  Sounds like a picnic to me.

If that purse were a little bigger it could be the picnic basket and I could have matching shoes.

Stupid slingbacks.  But cute!  Apparently I and the nonexistent baby will be going on lots of picnics in all of our fun shoes.

I have no idea where today went, but it disappeared and I feel like I got nothing done.  I hate it when days get sucked into the time vortex.
