Froggy

I have been a weepy, phlegmy, miserable, grumpopatamus the past few days.  Sinus infection is still hanging around despite showing signs of maybe improving on Sunday.  So physically I feel crappy.  I've also been weepy, not totally sure why, but I alternate between weepy, frustrated, pissy, and just plain blah.  So mentally I feel crappy.  Good times.  I'll spare you the details of this latest round of depression.  Instead, we'll go with the happier fact that today is National Frog Jumping Day.  Why?  Who cares?  It gives me a happy topic for a post, and I don't have to cry all over the keyboard (which is doubly gross right now since the crying produces LOTS of phlegm).  Let's look at some frog shoes.

I'm guessing those are lily pads, and not green chocolate chip cookies?

These came in a variety of colors, but of course I chose blue.

Purple frog shoes!  I find these hilarious, and kind of want a pair.

These frogs look slightly drunk.

Froggy slippers!

OK, these are adorable, and I need to make some.

I'm not sure why, but these scare me a little bit.

Those might actually be aliens, but I think they're frogs... (I got sucked in by the blue again).

Happy Frog Jumping Day!  And since any time I think of frogs I get Froggy Went a Courtin' stuck in my head, here it is for you to listen to as well.

Black and More Black

I had a friend comment on yesterday's that she wasn't fond of any of the shoes, probably because none of them were black, but maybe black flowers would be weird?  It turns out black flowers, when it comes to shoes, aren't as weird as you might think:

It turns out I actually own a pair of sandals with black flowers.  They are Clarks and they are mostly comfy, except for that damn thing between the toes.

This one isn't my favorite, but it's not the worst shoe ever.

Better, but maybe because I like a strappier shoe.

Very cute!  They remind me of this pair that I bought last summer.

These are a little weird, but mostly cute.  I can't tell if they're sparkly or not.

Not sparkly.  Less weird.

Not sparkly.  Are metal flowers weirder than black flowers?

Did you notice that all of these shoes have that damn thing between the toes?  What's up with black flower sandals that they seem to have to have the thing between the toes?

Oh well.  See, JG?  Black flower shoes!  BUT, we need to get  you some shoes with COLOR.  Your feet make me sad.  Although you and the hubby would get along swimmingly with your preference for no color.  I still love you, though, because you are quite awesome, footwear notwithstanding.

More Birthday

I told you I was going to drag this 40th birthday thing out for as long as possible.  Today I got a new pair of shoes in the mail:

I had birthday coupons from DSW, so this is a present to myself.  The hubby accuses me of buying too much, and he probably has a point, but I tend to buy things on sale, with coupons, etc.  His purchases tend to be on the grander scale.  Like the bar he built himself in the backyard for his birthday.  Yeah, my entire shoe collection doesn't come close.  Do I sound a bit defensive?  Maybe a teeny tiny bit.  It's just because hubbies are so silly sometimes.

I still feel pretty awful.  I'll spare you the details, but basically my entire body hurts.  The seester suggested a shot of whiskey, a hot bath, and a cold compress.  Isn't she smart?  Unfortunately I didn't have the energy to clean the dragon germs out of the tub in order to enjoy that entire combination.  Don't get me wrong, I rinse it out and spray it down with Lysol on a daily basis, but I still feel the need to thoroughly bleach it before I submerge myself in what is basically the dragons' toilet.  But enough with the TMI.  Let's look at some more flowered sandals.

I'm surprisingly into orange lately.  These are adorable.

I love the colors, not sure about those exact flowers.  They look (potentially) squishy-comfortable, though.

I think these would be adorable in a variety of colors.  Meaning this shoe in lots of single colors, OR each flower being a different color.

Like this.  I actually tried this shoe on awhile back.  It is soooo cute, but with the thing between the toes I couldn't find a size that was comfortable.  I was sad.  I think I went back and gazed longingly at it about 6 different times, hoping that darn thing between the toe would magically disappear.  Alas, the shoe fairy did not grant my wish.

Once again taking my sinus infection to bed.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Letters to Zell

I have a sinus infection.  I feel like crap.  Let's not talk about me.

Instead, let's talk about my amazing friend who has a book coming out in July!  (why yes, I do have it pre-ordered on my Kindle, thank you for asking).

Here is the book:

And here is what it is about (according to Amazon):

Everything is going according to story for CeCi (Cinderella), Bianca (Snow White), and Rory (Sleeping Beauty)—until the day that Zell (Rapunzel) decides to leave Grimmland and pursue her life. Now, Zell’s best friends are left to wonder whether their own passions are worth risking their predetermined “happily ever afters,” regardless of the consequences. CeCi wonders whether she should become a professional chef, sharp-tongued and quick-witted Bianca wants to escape an engagement to her platonic friend, and Rory will do anything to make her boorish husband love her. But as Bianca’s wedding approaches, can they escape their fates—and is there enough wine in all of the Realm to help them?

In this hilarious modern interpretation of the fairy-tale stories we all know and love, Letters to Zell explores what happens when women abandon the stories they didn’t write for themselves and go completely off script to follow their dreams.

Don't I just have the coolest friends?  In honor of Cami and her new book, here are shoes based on the 4 main characters.  I went with wedding shoes, because they were more interesting to me tonight, and because the book is about what happens after the weddings and the supposed happily ever afters.

Cinderella.  I keep going back and forth.  I either quite like it or I hate it..

Yowza.  Snow White wedding shoes are intense.

These were also under Snow White, and are much better.  I rather like them.

I have no idea why these would be Sleeping Beauty wedding shoes, but I like them, so I don't care.

Again, not sure of the connection. Any thoughts?

I don't think I'm enough of a Disney fan to go this far with  my wedding shoes.  The shoes themselves seem like they are cute, but I wouldn't want the pictures on the bottom.  Are there any Disney characters you love so much you would want them on the bottom of your wedding shoes?  I'm not coming up with anything so far for myself.

Also Rapunzel, and very sweet.

OK, not shoes and so not me, but I'm kind of in love with this.  I found it when I was searching for shoes, and I love the flower details.  Once upon a time this is sort of the dress I wanted, with the big skirt and the flowing train.  I ended up going practical and not hauling 300 lbs of material around, but I do like this dress in theory.

If you're looking for a new author for your summer reading list, why not try Letters to Zell?  I haven't read it yet, but I know the author, and she's pretty freaking fantastic.

Cinco de Mayo

The puppies and I had quite the eventful day.  We saw the hubby off to work at 5:30 this morning and then went back to bed (like sane people).  Then we got up and met our friend CH for a walk of about a mile, which was really nice.  When we got home there was a nap because somewhere between the walk and home I got a massive sore throat.  This afternoon we met another friend for coffee.  We have a standing once-a-month coffee date, but this was the first time the dogs got to go.  Oh, and I got to do laundry, so it was QUITE the exciting day.  Today is also Cinco de Mayo, which I suppose we should have celebrated since the puppies are Mexican, but they aren't old enough yet to join mom for a celebratory margarita which is really the only thing I've ever done on this particular day.  Maybe next year I'll do some research and we'll do something fun.  Here some shoes I found for the occasion:

I love all of the bright, festive colors.  Can't see myself wearing any of them, necessarily, but I think they're all  fun.

And just to be totally stereotypical, here are some Chihuahuas in sombreros.  Just not my Chihuahuas as they don't have any.  Although Tallulah would totally make that same embarrassed face as the first dog, and the second dog actually looks a tiny bit like Challupa.

As for me, I'm skipping the margarita and taking some orange juice to bed.

May the Fourth

It has actually been a fairly busy few days, so I have some catching up to do since my last post on Friday.

Saturday was Double A's 15th birthday, which just sounds crazy.  How is it possible this adorable baby is now taking driver's ed?

She was the happiest, sweetest baby, and has turned into the happiest, sweetest young woman.  I don't live with her, so I don't know for absolute sure, but she doesn't even seem to be going through a terribly horrible teenage phase.

She's my green girl, so here are some green (flat) shoes for her.

Saturday we also had people over to watch the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.  Eh...not my cup of tea, but the hubby enjoyed it, and we got to see a couple of people we hadn't seen in quite awhile, so that was nice.  Boxing shoes are weird, but blue for me and green for AA.

Yesterday I preached and led worship for the first time in over a year.  It went pretty well, actually.  I only made one ginormous mistake during the liturgy, and only almost fell off the step in the pulpit once (I preached with my shoes ON, how was I supposed to feel where my feet were?)  The Gospel text was from John where Jesus says, "I am the Vine, you are the branches."  So we have some really crazy grape shoes, and some slightly less crazy grape flip flops (in green, of course, for AA).

I wore new turquoise shoes that I bought with my birthday coupons at Kohl's:

They aren't this blurry in real life...

And today is May 4th, so if you're a Star Wars nerd you know that today you say, "May the Fourth be with you."  I am a Star Wars nerd, so this makes me giggle.  I love the R2D2 shoes, am a little frightened by the Darth Vader shoes, and again included some awesome green shoes for Awesome A.

So there you have.  Many themes, one post.  Time for bed.

May Day

Happy May Day!  Did you leave anyone flowers and then doorbell ditch today?  I didn't, but I actually thought about how much fun it might be.  Instead I spent a good chunk of the day sermonizing at Starbucks.  It went pretty well, actually, despite the fact that I've already had 3 church-related anxiety dreams this week.  All in all it wasn't a bad first day of May.

Our mantel is ready for May!  The flowers are birthday gifts (told you I could keep working that in), and the people, as always are creations of my mama.  See the May Day theme?  The girl has flowers, as does the boy, who is standing next to the May pole.  He's also wearing a fishing vest, though, because Mom says that's what he'd rather be doing but the girl corralled him into helping her.

I think that second to last picture says it all:  Crazy floral.  I actually like some of the shoes, especially the rain boots and the first 2 pairs of Toms.  That purple pair are definitely crazy.

Hope your day involved some fun, floral shoes, or better yet, actual flowers...maybe left on your door by a door bell ditching neighbor.
